Alysia is the daughter of Tim and Lou Meyer of Clear Lake. Alysia’s grandparents are Jerry Meyer and Laura Neyens of Dubuque, Iowa.

Garreth’s parents are Michael and Elizabeth Webster of Derbyshire, England.

Matron of honor was Audra Riddle. Alysia’s other attendants were Katie Torres, Nichole Kloberdanz, Chelsia Hart. Best man was Jerry Rosenberger. Garreth’s other attendants were Brad Angell, Aaron Riddle, Andy Ries.

The flower girl was Matilda Webster. Ushers were Andrea Skoog and Stephanie Paulsen. The personal attendants were Kacy Schwartz and Josh Anderegg.

A reception was held at Riverfront Eagle Point Park, Dubuque, Iowa.

Alysia graduated from Newman Catholic High School and the University of Northern Iowa as a social worker. Alysia is employed

by Lifeworks of Des Moines, Iowa.

Garreth graduated from The University of Derby, England, as an engineer.

Garreth is employed by All-State Industries of West Des Moines, Iowa.

The couple honeymooned in Myrtle Beach, S.C. They will reside in Bondurant, Iowa.

Danny and Judy Miller of Ventura announce the engagement of their daughter, Danielle, to Nathan Dykstra, son of Jerry and Christine Dykstra of Orange City, Iowa.

Danielle is a 2008 graduate of Ventura High School and currently attends Northwestern College pursing a degree in elementary education. Nathan, a 2008 graduate of MOC-FV, also attends Northwestern College and is majoring in business finance. They will both graduate in May of 2012.

The wedding is planned for July 14, 2012, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mason City.

CHICAGO — North Iowa 4-H youth were awarded the 4-H Chicago Award Trip, Nov. 24-27 The Senior High 4-H Award Trip recognizes 4-Her’s for their achievements during their years in 4-H. While in Chicago, 4-Her’s visited the Museum of Science and Industry, Field Museum of Natural History, the top of the Willis Tower (formerly Sears Tower), Lincoln Park Zoo, Navy Pier, enjoyed shopping on State Street and attended performances of the Blue Man Group and a Comedy Sports Club Act in Downtown Chicago. Dennis Johnson, Worth County Extension Education specialist in Northwood, led the delegation of youth from the Fort Dodge and Mason City areas on the annual trip.

Jessica is the daughter of Kim and Dale Gibson of Mason City. She is the granddaughter of Connie Gibson of Mason City. Tyler is the son of Janet Isaacson and Darrell Isaacson of Mason City. He is the grandson of Phyllis and Laurence Evans of Armstrong, Iowa, and Geraldine and Eldon Isaacson of Swea City, Iowa.

The newlyweds will honeymoon in Hawaii in March of 2012. They reside in Las Vegas, Nev.

Since 1927 we have received thousands of letters similar to the ones above, which continue to reinforce the importance and true meaning of the Christmas Cheer Fund.

Letters from children, adults and letters received anonymously, all asking for a little support during the holiday season.

The 2011 Cheer Fund goal is $115,000. “ These people are not asking for elaborate gifts. They just want a little extra money to help buy food and other necessities,” said Globe-Gazette Publisher Howard Query. “This Fund is one way people can spread holiday joy.”

In 1927 Lee Loomis, publisher of the Globe-Gazette founded the Christmas Cheer Fund, and each year thereafter it has continued to help brighten the holidays for many North Iowa residents due to your generosity. In the past 85 years you have given $2,257,551.03 to help North Iowans in need of a little cheer for the holidays.

AWARDS AND ACHIEVEMENTS Two Waldorf College students win Alpha Chi undergraduate research grants FOREST CITY —Waldorf College students Jason Mueller of Postville and Dean Safe of Cannon Falls, Minn., have won the Alpha Chi undergraduate award to support the research in their discipline.

The Waldorf College Alpha Chi Honor Society annually offers two $500 awards – one for an Alpha Chi member and one for a non-member. The student officers representing the Alpha Chi Society on the Waldorf campus screened the applications for the award.

A junior biology major, Mueller is conducting research that focuses on testing the metabolic needs of Geomyces destructans. This research should help develop a novel approach to prevent White Nose Syndrome a fatal disease that has killed over a million bats.

Safe, a senior double major in creative writing and English, with a minor in studio art, is not a member of the society. The Cannon Falls, Minn. resident will use the award money to set up an art exhibition centered on the people and places of the rural upper Midwest.

Alpha Chi is a coeducational academic honor society that promotes and honors academic excellence and exemplary character.
