OSAGE — Green Devil football is ready to go with a strong core of experience, says Coach Lon Lawler. “We return 14 players who had significant experience last year,” said Lawler.
The Green Devils ended their 2013 season with a 3-6 record – not a sterling season, but one that caught momentum at the end, with the Osage grid squad winning three of the team’s last four outings, said Lawler. Helping anchor the seasoned team will be junior quarterback Collin

OSAGE — Although he lost some strong runners to graduation, Osage High School boys’ cross country coach Bill Gruman anticipates some good performances in the 2014 season. “We had a big turnover of graduates last season and look forward to a new group of guys stepping up to lead,” said Gruman, who is in his 11th year as coach. “We have a great team again this year and have high hopes again for the season.” He has a strong senior nucleus to help set the stage. Seniors Tyler Friesen, Brett Barker, Lucas Maakestad and Sam Bellairs all return; joining them will be some talented underclassmen, including sophomores Ben Huftalin and Noah Meineke. All follow a stellar 2014 season, when the boys earned the

ST. ANSGAR — One goal for the St. Ansgar High School volleyball team is to move up in the Corn Bowl Conference ranks and improve every week. “We hope to see quick
improvement this year as we have a large number of kids with some varsity experience returning,” said second-year coach Tyler Johnson. Key players returning for the Saints include senior Noelle Hulshizer, juniors Amber Brigham
and Alex Patterson, and sophomore Tara Kramer. Last season, the Saints finished 2-5 in the conference and were 9-20 overall. The girls open their season Friday at 7 p.m., when they travel to Newman Catholic in Mason City.

RICEVILLE — The Riceville High School football team is looking to improve off of last year’s season with first-year coach Steffen Fair. Last year, the Wildcats went 4-5 in the season and finished sixth in the district. “The seniors should lead the way to a strong season,” said Fair. Her assistants will be Erin Bremer and Jackie McRoberts. Dominque Adams and Macy Ott are the team managers. The girls open their season at 7:30 p.m. Thursday against West Hancock at Britt.
GIRLS CC: Goal is to finish on top of Class 2A From C4 Mullenbach, have all put in several hours running over the summer, giving themselves an opportunity to contribute to the team. Jennings, who is in his 16th year as coach, expects great things again. “We have the potential to have a great season and our team goals are to finish at the top of Class 2A. We feel we have the girls to do that. They have put
in countless hours preparing themselves for the season,” he said. “We have around 55 girls out for cross country 7-12 and are very excited about where we are at as a program and our future.” The girls open their season when they travel to the Newman Catholic Invitational at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 2.
