Noon Rotary Club Student of the Month MASON CITY — Will Siglin, a senior at Mason City High School, was selected as the Mason City Noon Rotary Club’s “Student of the Month” for April. He is the son of Jerry and Dori Siglin. Siglin is a member of the MCHS Symphonic Band and MCHS Concert Choir. He is also actively involved in Best Buddies and National Honor Society at MCHS. He is a varsity letter winner in wrestling and football. His awards and honors include: Principal’s list, Honor Roll, Governor’s Siglin Scholar, CIML Academic All-Conference in wrestling and football, All State vocalist, and wrestling state qualifier. Siglin volunteers his time by helping coach wrestling at Knight-Hawks youth wrestling and helps with various National Honor Society service projects. compete for Irene Ryan Acting Scholarships at the national Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF), April 14-19. Wendel, whose scene partner is Wilford, was one of two actors selected to advance to the national

Algona High School musicians recognized ALGONA — Several Algona High School musicians participated in the Iowa High School Music Association’s State Solo/ Small Ensemble Festival Saturday, March 29, at Forest City High School. Out of 39 Algona High School instrumental performances, there were 18 Division I (superior) ratings, 17 Division II (excellent) ratings, and four Division III (good) ratings. There were 43 Algona High School vocal performances with eight Division I ratings, 23 Division II ratings, 11 Division III ratings, and

one Division IV rating. One Algona High School ensemble earned special recognition at the festival. The saxophone quintet earned an Outstanding Performance Award. Members of the quintet are: Peter Jorgenson, soprano saxophone; Emma Schmidt, alto saxophone; Jack Ralls, tenor saxophone, Danny Illg, tenor saxophone, and Maddie Roach, baritone saxophone. Outstanding performance awards are given to only one performance in each center. The quintet earned one

of only four instrumental awards given for the festival. They were invited to perform at the Outstanding Performance Recital at Iowa State University in May. Accompanists for the Algona High School musicians were Kim Benson, Linnea Holmer, Bonita Meyer, Erin Schmidt, Kris Schonert, and Moni Westling. Logan Pals receives Air Force promotion Logan W. Pals was promoted to First Lieutenant in the United States Air Force on March 17, 2014, at Hanscom Air Force Base in Bedford, Massachusetts, where he is stationed. His parents, Bart and Jody Pals of Mason City, along with other friends and co-workers attended the promotion ceremonies. Lt. Pals is a graduate of Iowa State University with a degree in industrial engineering and is the grandson of Larry and Judie Lightbody of Thornton and Leslie Pals of Mason City.
