Voves receives the F. William Beckwith Scholarship MASON CITY — Austin Voves, a 2013 graduate of Mason City High School, was awarded the F. William Beckwith Scholarship through the Iowa Grocers Education Foundation for the 2014-15 academic year. Voves was chosen for the $2,000 scholarship from an applicant pool of more than 400 students. IGEF Scholarships are awarded based on academic merit to sons and daughters of full-time employees whose firms are members of the Iowa Grocery Industry Association, a state trade association that represents the food industry. Voves, who is majoring in biology and will be a sophomore at the University of Northern Iowa next year, received the F. William Beckwith Scholarship as the son of Robert J. Voves, an employee of Fareway.

Rayhons Wins National NATS Trevor Rayhons, the son of Greg and Sandy Rayhons of Garner, Iowa, competed in the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) National Student Auditions Competition on July 6 and 7 in Boston, Massachusetts. After winning at the regional level in 2013, Rayhons advanced through the national YouTube screening and competed at the live national semifinal round where he placed in the top three. Trevor then advanced to the national final round, where he won first place, received a monetary award, and was named the best high school male vocalist in the United States according to NATS. Trevor competed under the direction of his private voice teacher Sarah Luebke. In the fall, Trevor will be attending Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa, to pursue vocal performance.

Emily Brandt and Tim Biederman were united in marriage on May 31, 2014, at the Dysart United Methodist Church. Emily is the daughter of Tom and Pam Brandt of Dysart and Tim is the son of Marjean and the late Phil Biederman of Osage. The ceremony was officiated by the Reverend Linda M Butler. Serving as maid of honor was Emily’s sister, Lacey Brandt. Bridesmaids were: Lauren Powell, Ashley Quint, Tiffany Hach, Briar Bennett, Jessica Brandt, and Haley Flores, childhood friends of the bride. The best man was Tim’s friend Nathan Johnson. Groomsmen

She is the Wildlife Resources Program Director for the Forest County Potawatomi Community in Crandon, Wis. A 2002 graduate of Pius XI Catholic High School in Milwaukee, Joseph served in the United States Marine Corps and graduated from Universal Technological Institute

of Orlando, Florida, in 2009. He is an industrial maintenance mechanic for the Oldenburg Group in Rhinelander, Wis. The couple resides in Rhinelander, Wis. An August 30, 2014, wedding is planned in Milwaukee.
