Nicholas’ parents are the Rev. Daird and Carol Korth, of Ventura.

Nicholas’ grandfather is Hilmer Korth of Sullivan, Wis. Maid of honor was Brittany Jurgemeyer. Jodi’s other attendants were Lindsay Becker, Lacey Weier, Kayla Down, and Catherine Korth.

Letters from children, adults and letters received anonymously, all asking for a little support during the holiday season.

The 2012 Cheer Fund goal is $120,000. “ These people are not asking for elaborate gifts. They just want a little extra money to help buy food and other necessities,” said Globe-Gazette Publisher Howard Query. “This Fund is one way people can spread holiday joy.”

In 1927 Lee Loomis, publisher of the Globe-Gazette founded the Christmas Cheer Fund, and each year thereafter it has continued to help brighten the holidays for many North Iowa residents due to your generosity. In the past 85 years you have given $2,392,900.86 to help North Iowans in need of a little cheer for the holidays.

AWARDS AND ACHIEVEMENTS Palmer College Dean’s List DAVENPORT — Laura Huling, of Ventura, was named to Dean’s List for the first trimester, at Palmer College of Chiropractic.

To be eligible for the Dean’s List, a student must achieve a minimum grade point average of 3.50, out of a possible 4.00, in all studies for the respective term.

Doane College Alumni award CRETE, Neb. — Dr. Mark W. Mulkey, of Mason City, was the recipient of an alumni award at Doane College’s homecoming celebration, Oct. 7. He received the Honor D Award which dates back to 1958, and honors former Doane athletes who have succeeded in their chosen careers or service.

Dr. Mulkey graduated magna cum laude from Doane College in 1982, with a double major in biology and chemistry. One of his fondest memories of Doane is playing football alongside his brothers, Kent and Darren, on the Doane offensive line, according to a news release. The Mulkey boys occupied the offensive guard position at Doane for eight years, playing alongside each other for four years.

After leaving Doane, Dr. Mulkey earned his medical degree from the University of Nebraska College of Medicine. He completed a general surgery residency at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, and finished a plastic surgery fellowship at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. During his plastic surgery fellowship he spent time in Ecuador with an Interplast surgical team, performing cleft lip and palate repair.

Dr. Mulkey joined the Mason City Clinic in Mason City, Iowa, in 1993. While in Mason City, he has served as a member of the board of directors at the Mason City Clinic and was instrumental in the establishment of the Mason City Surgery Center. He has served as chief of surgery at Mercy Medical Center — North Iowa, and is currently the acting medical director of the operating room.

Dr. Mulkey has been married to Judy Steinkuhler Mulkey, for 30 years, and together they have three children, Jessica, Brett, and Ryan.
