Robert Neuhring and Diane (Tolzman) Neuhring of Mason City were married Nov. 16, 1962, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Mason City.

The Competition Squad earned 2nd place in the Large Squad division. The Timeout Squad took 6th, overall. Two small stunt groups competed as well. Stunt Group A consisting of Chanel Barlas, Taryn Kantaris, Kenzie Penca, Abbi Schupanitz, and Alexa Wasicek placed 10th, and Stunt Group B with McKenna Dahlquist, Danielle Davis, Delanie Hull, Kelsey Murray and Morgan Vorba took 12th, out of 37 teams.

Four Mason City High School cheerleaders were honored for making the Iowa All-State Squad, that will perform during the Boy’s State Basketball Tournament in March. They include Chanel Barlas, Natalie Mujica, Vanessa Swendsen, and Dani Zeigler. Also, three senior cheerleaders Danielle Davis, Abbi Schupanitz and Morgan Vorba, were selected to perform with the Honor Squad next week at the UNI Dome, during the football championship game.

The school was also recognized with the “Friend of Cheerleading” award from the Iowa Cheer Coaches Association for its contribution to Iowa cheerleading. Donna McKay, representative, accepted the award. The school was also chosen to receive a $250 scholarship to give a deserving senior.

AMES — Alex Furleigh, of Clear Lake, was introduced as one of the members of Iowa State University’s homecoming court, at a pep rally held Oct. 26.

This year marked the Centennial Celebration, in honor of the 100th homecoming at Iowa State.

Furleigh, son of Ben and Kathy Furleigh, of Clear Lake, is majoring in supply chain management at ISU. Tlusty named Rotary ‘Student of the Month’

MASON CITY — Connor Tlusty, a senior at Mason City High School, has been selected as the Mason City Noon Rotary Club “Student of the Month” for November.

Tlusty is a member of Tlusty the Symphonic Band, Jazz 1 Band, Marching Band, Mohawk Power, Drill Leader and two-year Iowa All State Band. He is a letter winner

in trapshooting and band.

His awards and honors include: Principal’s List, National Honor Society, four-year Outstanding Academic Achievement awards, and Iowa High School Music Association All State Festival Award.

Tlusty is a member of St. James Lutheran Church, where he has ushered and played trumpet for Easter services.

He is the son of Mark and Erica Tlusty, and plans to enlist in United States Air Force after graduation.

Western Iowa Technical honor SIOUX CITY — Jennifer Lee Hjelle was inducted into the Beta Zeta Mu Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, at Western Iowa Tech Community College, March 19, 2012.

Hjelle, majoring in education/teaching, is married to Jake Hjelle, of Mason City.

Phi Theta Kappa Honor society, headquartered in Jackson, Miss., is the largest honor society in American higher education, according to a news release.
