Andersen, Day MASON CITY — Amber Day and Matthew Andersen were united in marriage on Saturday, Aug. 1, 2009, at Victory in Christ Free Methodist Church in Mason City, Iowa, by the Rev. David Anderson. Amber is the daughter of the Rev. Larry and Karen Day of Mason City, and the granddaughter of Mavis Day, of Vancouver, Wash., and Lyle and Dorothy Day of Mason City. Matthew is the son of Dean and Marlys Andersen of Rake. Amber wore a strapless satin gown with beaded lace bodice with a split Aline front overskirt. The split front and the chapel train featured beaded lace detail. Amber carried a cascade bouquet of white calla lilies, lime green cymbidium orchids and white rose. Allison Day, sister of the bride, of Mason City, served as the maid of honor. She, along with bridesmaids, Cassie Smith of Miamisburg, Ohio; Jennifer Dobel, of Urbana, and Amanda Clark of Morehead, Ky., wore black street-length satin dresses with white sashes. They carried bouquets of lime green cymbidium orchids and white roses. Jensen Duke of Mason City was the flower girl. She wore a white gown matching the bride. She carried a white basket of rose petals with calla lily accents. Cassidy Weaver, of Ames, served as the personal attendant. Matthew wore an Anderson black-0n-black pin-striped tuxedo with a white vest and a white tie.

Joyce Cordle Christensen Stenseth, 80

Trevor Amy, friend of the groom of Elmore, Minn., served as his best man. Remington Cook, of Britt, Cody Witjes, of Thompson, and Alec Anderson, of Thompson, all served as groomsmen. They wore black tuxedos, black shirts, lime green vests and ties. Micah Anderson of Joplin, Mo., served as his uncle’s ring bearer and was dressed like the groom. A buffet dinner was held for the guests at the Hanford Inn in Mason City, followed by a wedding dance. The couple opened gifts at the home of the bride’s parents on Sunday afternoon. The couple honeymooned in Branson, Mo., with 59 of their family and friends spending three days with them. The bride is employed at the Winter Funeral Home in Buffalo Center, Thompson and Blue Earth, Minn. The groom is employed at Crescent Park in Mason City as a certified fork lift operator. The couple is currently living in Mason City and will be moving to Blue Earth, Minn., in the near future.

Riley Stallsmith graduates from boot camp MASON CITY — Pvt. Riley Thomas Stallsmith, 19, of Mason City, graduated from United States Marine Corps boot camp at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, on Oct. 30. Stallsmith successfully completed 13 weeks of intensive basic training at MCRD, San Diego, as one of 428 recruits in Mike Company, Platoon 3273. While in basic training, Stallsmith was a squad leader, earned sharpshooter status, and had one of the top two scores on the final written examinations. Following 10 days home on leave, he worked doing recruiters’s assistance for the month of November.

Rachael Koenigsberg and Scott Mineart were united in marriage on Dec. 27, 2008, at the First United Methodist Church in Mason City by Pastors Jack VandenHeuvel and Jo Watkins. Rachael is the daughter of Brad and Mary Jo Koenigsberg of Sheffield and Scott is the son of Lori Mineart and the late Tony Mineart of Bradenton, Fla. Maid of honor was Suni Dorenkamp. Rachael’s other attendants were Jaime Roiger, Lindsey Huesman and Kate Elwood. Rachael’s personal attendant was Mackenzie Maxedon. Flower girls were Savannah and Sydney Williams. Best man was Eric Mineart. Scott’s other attendants were Josh Schumacher, Mark Weaver and Peter Koenigsberg. Ushers were Curt Bomgaars, Jay Elsberry, Dale Maxedon and Chris Wiemann. A dinner and dance followed the ceremony at the Best Western in Clear Lake. Scott is employed as a consultant for Animal Revival Health in Orange City and Rachael is a nurse at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. The couple resides in Des Moines.

MASON CITY — Mary Paulsen will be honored at a retirement open house from 1 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 31, at Larry Elwood Construction, 2401 S. Federal Ave. All friends and business associates are invited to attend. Paulsen was the office manager at Larry Elwood Construction Inc., Mason City, for over 15 years.

Hawkeye Marching Band IOWA CITY — The Hawkeye Marching Band, under the direction of University of Iowa School of Music faculty member Kevin Kastens, will accompany the Hawkeye football team to the 2010 Orange Bowl, Jan. 5, in Miami. The 240-member band will perform at the Orange Bowl game and in a variety of pre-game events. North Iowa students traveling to Miami, as members of the U of I Hawkeye Marching Band include: CHARLES CITY — Genevieve Becicka, drumline; Coleman Boley, alto saxophone. Spirit Lake quiz bowl ALGONA — Bishop Garrigan won the overall championship at the Spirit Lake quiz bowl tournament, Saturday, Dec. 5. The Golden Bears beat NSK, MOC—Floyd Valley, North Iowa, and Forest City in the preliminary rounds. In the semi-finals they narrowly edged past the host team from Spirit Lake 335-325, and then defeated Unity Christian of Orange City, 500-185 to take the championship. Varsity players were Jake Rosenmeyer, Brittany Berte, Anna Kollasch, and Rebeccah Erdman. Garrigan’s JV team of Michael Fakler, Michael Hellman, Alex Hamilton, Drew Magill, and Zachary Scobba finished fifth in its division, with a 3-1 record. Bishop Garrigan’s team is coached by David Burrow.
