Bosma, president of Bosma Consulting, Minneapolis, is the recipient of an award given by the American Public Health Association’s Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs (ATOD) Section. She received the 2009 Section Leadership award, which recognizes an ATOD Section member who has made significant contributions to the ATOD Section and the field. Bosma has been actively engaged in both the content area (especially alcohol prevention and advocacy) and the executive function of the section for over a decade. MILITARY NOTES Stephen M. Beaty graduated from Officer Candidate School (OCS) at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga., and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army. Beaty, a human resources officer, is the son of Frank and Judith Beaty, of Garner. His wife, Kimberly, is the daughter of Rick and Paula Walker, Rolla, Mo. Kelly Spencer graduated from the Army ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) Leader Development and Assessment Course, also known as “Operation Warrior Forge,” at Fort Lewis, Tacoma, Wash. Cadets in their junior and senior year of college must complete the leadership development course. Upon successful completion of the course, the ROTC program, and graduation from college, cadets are

commissioned as second lieutenants in the U.S. Army, National Guard, or Reserve. Spencer is a student at Creighton University, Omaha, Neb. She is the daughter of Alan and Kimberly Spencer, of Clarion. Air Force Airman Zachary M. Davis graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. Blum, 65 years THORNTON — Charles and Berniece (Halfpap) Blum were married Dec. 17, 1944, at the bride’s parents’ home in Goodell. Four children have filled their lives with joy and love. They are Elaine (Steve) Bram of Thailand, Donna (Wayne) Steenhard of Mason City and Julie (Scott) Devitt of California. Their son, Roger, is deceased.
