AWARDS & ACHIEVEMENTS Carly Miller selected to attend 69th Annual Girls State Carly Miller was selected by the Nora Springs unit of the American Legion Auxiliary to attend the 69th Annual Girls State, June 14-19, 2015, at Iowa State University. Miller spent the week with 262 girls from other Iowa units. The goal of this program is to teach young women about city, county, and state government and politics through a hands-on learning system. The girls are divided into two parties and split between seven cities within two counties. During the week, Miller was elected a city council member and a state central committee delegate which allowed her to help develop her party’s platform. The culmination of the week was the election of state officers. After many campaign speeches, Miller was chosen as her party’s candidate for lieutenant governor. While not winning the election, this allowed her to be a part of the Honor Guard for the final flag lowering

ceremony and be involved in the Inauguration Ceremony as the Governor’s Executive Aide. Miller gave a presentation to the American Legion Auxiliary on Thursday, July 16, describing her experience. Carly is the daughter of Criss and Michelle Miller, of Nora Springs, and will be a senior at Central Springs High School.
