Briar Cliff Review SIOUX CITY — Kathleen Kruckenberg, of Mason City, had a literary piece published in the 23rd issue of Briar Cliff University’s award-winning literary magazine, The Briar Cliff Review.

Kruckenberg’s literary work was titled, “Riverside Park: From Social Experiment to Recreational Hub.” The Sioux City Art Center and the editorial staff of The Briar Cliff Review, co-hosted an event, May 5, at the Art Center, featuring the opening of an exhibition of artwork included in the 23rd issue of The Briar Cliff Review.

The exhibition, featuring a variety of paintings, drawings, photography, textiles and ceramics, will be on display in the Main Gallery, third floor at the Sioux City Art Center, 225 Nebraska St., Sioux City, through July 3.

The event also included a reception and gallery talk. A reading by some of the writers, and poets published in the 2011 issue, was held in the Stark Lecture Hall.

THANK YOU Thank you The 26th Annual MCHS/Newman 2011 Substance Free Post Prom Party was held at NIACC on Sunday, May 1, from 12:30 a.m. to 4:30 a.m. Junior and senior students who attend Mason City High School and Newman High School and their guest were invited to attend the event. It is not necessary for students to

attend prom in order to participate in Post Prom.

A portion of the funding for Post Prom came from a bake sale and the selling of Hy-Vee coupon books. The donations from area businesses and private donations are what made the event such a tremendous success.

Some of this year’s activities included Casino

games, a Zumba class, Win It In A Minute, karaoke, blow-up games (a slide, Bungie run, Rat Race Obstacle Course) and a hypnotist. Great food consisting of pizza, walking tacos, wings, fruit kabobs, king cakes, cookies, pop and water. Some of the prizes given away were a 24-inch Dynex TV, Tom Tom 4.3 Navigator, GPX, DVD play-

AWARDS AND ACHIEVEMENTS Allen College graduate MASON CITY — Fran Willetts, of Mason City, received a master of science degree in nursing, with a specialty in acute care nurse practitioner, at Allen College, Waterloo.

The college held commencement exercises May 6, at Nazareth Lutheran Church, Cedar Falls.

Bishop Garrigan contest results ALGONA — Bishop Garrigan High School was a host site to the State Music Association’s 1A Large Group Competition, May 6.

Eleven bands performed in the Friedman Auditorium, and 15 choirs performed in St. Cecelia’s Sanctuary.

There were 12 school districts competing for division ratings throughout the evening. Bishop Garrigan Band and Choir both received a Division I rating of superior, from all three of their adjudicators.

Music directors at Bishop Garrigan are Ken and Linda Ferjak.
