The Spirit Of Christmas Cheer Fund “God bless the Cheer Fund,” one donor wrote in a note that came along with their donation. “You bring happiness to so many needy people.” Letter writer is happy to give
Since 1927 we have received thousands of letters similar to the ones above, which continue to reinforce the importance and true meaning of the Christmas Cheer Fund. Letters from children, adults and letters received anonymously, all asking for a little support during the holiday season.
The 2011 Cheer Fund goal is $115,000. “ These people are not asking for elaborate gifts. They just want a little extra money to help buy food and other necessities,” said Globe-Gazette Publisher Howard Query. “This Fund is one way people can spread holiday joy.”
In 1927 Lee Loomis, publisher of the Globe-Gazette founded the Christmas Cheer Fund, and each year thereafter it has continued to help brighten the holidays for many North Iowa residents due to your generosity. In the past 85 years you have given $2,257,551.03 to help North Iowans in need of a little cheer for the holidays. Every donation counts. Regardless of the size of your gift, anything will be greatly appreciated. Cheer Fund donations or referrals may be made to: Christmas Cheer Fund, Globe-Gazette, P.O. Box 271, Mason City, IA 50402-0271. Donations may also be taken to the Globe-Gazette office, 300 North Washington Ave., Mason City, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Celebrating 100 years of Chevrolet Enjoy Some Fond Memories From Area Chevy Enthusiast! Here is just a Sampling 1958 CHEVY APACHE STEPSIDE PICKUP
1953 CHEVY 3100 PICKUP
1993 QUAZAR BLUE CORVETTE COUPE
I have had an interest in pickups for quite a few years and found this one last August at an auction in Rockwell. It had been in one family since 1958 until I purchased it on that August day. It had only 40,000 original miles. My intentions when I had first brought it home was to use it to restore a 1959 Chevy Apache Fleetside that I had purchased a few years... LAKE Mills - Lake Mills resident Roger Monson decided to restore his 1953 Chevy 3100 pick-up truck. He has owned this pick-up ever since his dad retired from farming. His father bought this pick-up new in 1953. After his dad retired from farming Roger purchased this truck from his father. Roger used this pick-up for fishing and hunting. Until 10 years ago he stored it... To read the entire story go to www. globegazette.com and click on Chevy 100 years.
When I was a young teen growing up in Mason City a family friend purchased a new 1969 Blue Corvette. I drooled over that car for years and vowed someday I’d have my own Corvette. That day finally happened in 1993 when I was able to purchase my dream Corvette. The car has been part of my life ever since and still runs and drives as great today as the day I brought it home... 1956 CHEVY MODEL 210
1999 CHEVY LUMINA
1931 CHEVY
Jeff Bergstrom of Charles City has what he calls a “rare bird” - a 1956 Chevrolet Model 210. It’s black, with a white top. It came off the assembly line in the Chevy plant in Janesville, Wis. It was 50 years old when he bought it from a man in Winona, Minn., who had a classic car dealership. Although someone else had indicated interest in the car and was willing... My 1999 Chevy Lumina had so many great memories attached to it, from the time my step-mom Sharon showed it to me after they had just bought it (she loved her car) to riding in it to attend her funeral in October 2005. That car was in OUR family a long time and I was lucky enough to get it when she passed away. My Chevy Lumina was a great dependable... Our 1931 Chevrolet has been in the family since 1958, when my father acquired it in payment for a $69 bill at his Garner service station. He kept it for many years because it is the first Chevrolet model to have a built-intothe-body trunk. Prior to this model, trunks were actually luggage trunks strapped to the rear or side of the car when traveling. I drove the car as a teen; it...
