MASON CITY — The Exchange Club of Mason City has named Jennifer Hensley “Youth of the Month” for November. She is the daughter of Hensley Stephen and Dawn Hensley and is a senior at Newman Catholic High School. Hensley carries a 3.90 grade point average and has been named to the Honor Roll all four years, is a member of the National Honor Society and is an academic letter winner. Hensley is very active in sports, playing volleyball, basketball and track, and earning varsity letters in all three sports. She also has participated in band and pep band throughout her high school years. In addition, Hensley enjoys spending time with family, watching movies, reading and swimming. She plans to attend North Iowa Area Community College for two years and then transfer to the University of Northern Iowa to earn a degree in criminal justice.

AWARDS AND ACHIEVEMENTS CLEAR LAKE —The annual 4-H Awards Banquet was held Sunday, Nov. 6, at the United Methodist Church in Clear Lake. Many awards were given including the top senior 4-H award called the Service Above Self Award given to two graduated seniors. This award goes to one male and one female who have gone above and beyond to serve their clubs, the communities, their county program, as well as participating in state events. Their names are engraved on a plaque that hangs in the 4-H Learning Center, and they receive a $250 award. The 2011 Service Above Self Award winners were Morgan Lawson and Randy Groh. Groh graduated from Clear Lake High School and now is a student at Iowa State Universtiy. He served on the Iowa State 4-H technology team for the 2010-2011 school year and has put numerous hours into volunteering for 4-H at the state level. He also participated in the 4-H Citizenship Washington Focus trip. Groh was also involved in National Honor Society, school sports including football, wrestling, track, and golf while in high school. Groh feels that it is important to help others to ease their burden no matter what it may be, and to give them a better chance of supporting themselves in the future no matter what it may be. He is a true example of a Service Above Self Award Winner. Morgan Lawson graduated from Central Springs High School and

is now a student at North Iowa Area Community College. While in 4-H, she participated in club events, was part of the 4H County Council and has dedicated countless hours of community service and helping out with 4-H events. Lawson was also involved in Worth County Asset Team, student council, dance team, cheerleading, band, choir, National Barrel Horse Association, babysitting, working at Tractor Supply and was on the Region 3 4-H Council. She enjoys doing community service projects and making a difference in life. Her favorite 4-H memory was going to National 4H Congress in Atlanta Georgia. Lawson has displayed what it truly means to be a 4-Her and a Service Above Self Award Winner. Another prestigious annual award is the Chicago Trip, given to youth from all over North Iowa. To be eligible for this award, a member must show participation within their local 4-H club, participation in 4-H projects and activities, and personal growth through 4H. Members who attended the trip over Thanksgiving weekend representing Cerro Gordo County 4-H were Michaela Heck and Katie Cash. Another prestigious awards given was the top county record book award, presented to 4-H youth who demonstrated outstanding record books. Those youth received a 4-H member sign. The recipients were Shana Wood of Portland Community Springers, Dylana Luett of Portland Community Springers,
