Redman is the former director of bands at Pella High School and the current assistant director of athletic bands at William Penn University in Oskaloosa. McCombs is the assistant director of bands in the Pella Community School district and the affiliate instructor of percussion at Simpson College in Indianola. Northern Festival of Bands CEDAR FALLS — Six members of the Algona High School Band were selected to participate in the Northern Festival of Bands, Feb. 9-11, at the University of Northern Iowa. These musicians were selected for membership in one of the two festival honor bands through their individual performance resumes. Selected for membership in the 11-12 grade Symphony Band was Dan Haack, trumpet. The Symphony Band was conducted by LászlóMarosi, Director of Orchestra Activities at the University of Central Florida in Orlando. Selected for membership in the 9-10 grade Concert Band were Kevin Blaha-Polson, trumpet; Peter Jorgenson, alto saxophone; Jack Ralls, tenor saxophone; Maddie Roach, bassoon, and Emma Schmidt, clarinet. These students had the opportunity to work with Claudio Re, a young conductor from Italy who currently teaches and conducts at Kenyon College in Ohio. Students began the fes-

tival with chair auditions and a rehearsal on Thursday evening. The festival continued with numerous rehearsals, along with performances and master classes by UNI School of Music faculty and students. While at the festival, the students had the opportunity to attend a concert by the UNI Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band on Friday evening. The festival concluded with a concert performance by the festival bands on Saturday, Feb. 11, in the Great Hall of UNI’s Gallager-Bluedorn Auditorium.

Ashford University Dean’s List CLINTON — The faculty and staff announced the 2011 fall Dean’s List for Ashford University’s online program, the on-

campus accelerated programs and the on-campus traditional programs. Undergraduate students in the online and in the oncampus accelerated programs are recognized if they completed 12 or more credits, have a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or above, began and completed at least one course since the time the previous Dean’s List was determined (Aug. 22, 2011), and are curently enrolled, attending or on an approved leave of absence, and in good academic standing as of Dec. 12, 2011. Students in the oncampus traditional program are recognized if they completed six or more credits and received a grade point average of 3.5 or above during the semester ending on Dec. 9, 2011.
