BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. — Elizabeth Marks and Adam Ahrens were united in marriage on June 11, 2011, at St. John Lalande in Blue Springs, Mo., by Deacon Doug Mylar. Elizabeth is the daughter of Robert and Barbara Marks of Blue Springs. Elizabeth’s grandparents are John and Theresa Heiden of Johnson Creek, Wis., and Ruth Marks of Milwaukee, Wis. Adam’s parents are Mike and Lisa Ahrens of Clear Lake. Adam’s grandparents are Carolyn Ahrens of Clear Lake, Iowa, and Shirley Nove of Marion, Iowa. Maid of honor was Nicole Meyers. Elizabeth’s other attendants were Hannah Marks, Emily Marks, Aly Ahrens and Sophia Juarez. Best man was Dan Fessler. Adam’s other attendants were Andrew Cullen, Tyler Byington, Jared Faribanks and Craig Runyan. Ushers were Jeff Prill and Eric Ostrander. Elizabeth graduated from Drake University in 2011 with a PharmD degree. Elizabeth is employed by CVS Pharmacy in Omaha, Neb. Adam graduated from Drake University in 2009, with a B.A. in Biochemistry and Cell and Molecular Biology. Adam is a graduate student at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. The couple honeymooned in Maui, Hawaii. They will reside in Omaha.

LAGUNA BEACH, Calif. — Paige Michael McManigal and Jay Bennett Akins were united in marriage on Aug. 20, 2011. The outdoor ceremony and reception were held at Swanson Park, Emerald Bay in Laguna Beach, Calif. Paige is the daughter of Lynn and Don Esser and Mark McManigal of Mason City. She is the granddaughter of Bob and Arlene Gilbert, Sharidon Hannan, Charles McManigal and Marvin and Betty Esser. Jay is the son of Carl and Allyson Akins of Laguna Beach, Calif. He is the grandson of Ed and Priscilla Akins and the late Maury and Tib Mckenzie. The bride’s brothers, Reed McManigal and Jack Esser, were her Men of Honor. Paige’s other attendants were friends Kristin Secora, Molly Boegel, Danielle Clark and Cassandra Galsim. Geoffrey Akins, Jay’s brother, served as best man. The groom’s other attendants were friends Aidan Leedom, Matthew Marconi, Jeff Marchiorlatti and Andrew Purcell. Flower girls were Audrey and Beth Akins, nieces of the groom. Special guest was their dog, Dash. Paige is a graduate of Mason City High School and the University of Iowa. Jay is a graduate of Calvary Chapel High School and Westmont College. The couple honeymooned in Bora Bora.

On Dec. 18, 2011, the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office helped 18 local children do their Christmas shopping. This was the third and most successful year so far for the program. We would like to thank all the people who donated to the program with their money or their time. The children were picked from the three local Winnebago County school districts. They met with their parents at Pamida and shopped with the deputies, reserve deputies and the Pamida staff. The children ranged in age from six to 11 years old. AWARDS AND ACHIEVEMENTS Lassise named ‘Youth of Month’ MASON CITY — The Exchange Club of Mason City named Hannah Lassise “Youth of the Month” for December. She is the daughter of Mark and Deb Lassise, and is a senior at Mason City High Lassise School. Lassise carries a 3.92 grade point average and is a member of National Honor Society, the vicepresident of the Student Senate, a participant in the Silver Cord program, and a YIELD graduate. She was named to the Honor Roll and CIML all-academic throughout her high school career. For all four years in high school she has been a member of the dance team which placed first in state, and cheerleading, which placed second in state. Lassise was chosen for the all-state cheerleading squad for three years. She also participates in Concert Choir, Mohawk Chorale, and Mohawk Follies. She is planning to attend the University of Iowa next year to pursue a pre-med or nursing degree.
