Named FDC ICON Dancer of the Year EDINA, Minn. — Samantha McNamara, granddaughter of Agnes Thul, of Clear Lake, was named the Federation of Dance Competitions (FDC) ICON Dancer of the Year. She is a member of the Edina High School Dance Team, and is the Victoria Dance Productions Senior Company captain. The FDC is a non-profit organization that sees hundreds of thousands of dancers perform on their stages throughout each competition season. From these competitors, the member organizations (13 national competitions) of the FDC, selected 13 dancers from across the country as their “Icon” nominees. McNamara was one of these nominees, the only one from the upper midwest. McNamara has been dancing at Victoria Dance Productions since she was 3-years-old, and competing since she was 4. She performs in small and large groups, as well as numerous solo routines that led to this nomination. This summer, her competition team was invited to compete in the first ever World Dance Championships in Dallas, Texas. McNamara’s team, the Victoria Dance Productions Senior Co., was one of five chosen from the thousands that were eligible for this honor. The FDC Icon winner was selected by the public by voting for their favorite dancer. Approximately 1,117 of McNamara’s supporters voted. She is the daughter of Curt and Victoria (Thul) McNamara, formerly of Mason City.
