AWARDS AND ACHIEVEMENTS Spring Fest awards MASON CITY — Cerro Gordo County 4-Her’s participated in a Communications Day called Spring Fest, April 30, at North Iowa Area Community College. Communication division awards were presented in the category of Educational Presentations. Clover Kid participation ribbons went to Gracie Smith and Erin Smith. Ribbon of excellence awards in this category went to Philomena Schnoebelen, Nathan Elsbernd and Kara Smith. Participants in grades 5-12 are eligible to compete at the Iowa State Fair. Philomena Schnoebelen and Kara Smith were selected to represent Cerro Gordo County at the Iowa State Fair. Interpretative Reading ribbon of excellence awards were given to Miranda Wulff, Philomena Schnoebelen. Britta Elsbernd received a Clover Kid participation ribbon. Miranda Wulff and Clayton Sampson received ribbon of excellence awards in Extemporaneous Speaking. Clayton Sampson is eligible to compete at the State Fair. Annie Moore and Tim and Jenna Smith received ribbon of excellence awards in Working Exhibits. They were selected to represent Cerro Gordo County at the Iowa State Fair. Share the Fun is an opportunity for 4-H Youth to exhibit their skills in acting, singing, dancing or playing an instrument. All the contestants received a ribbon of recognition. There were five acts this year with three representing Cerro Gordo County 4H at the Iowa State Fair: The Mason City Challengers 4-H Club, with “4H F.Y.I.” puppet show; Kaitlyn Smith with a vocal
solo, and Annie Moore, with a trumpet solo. Also, the Mason City Challengers will represent Cerro Gordo County at the Clay County Fair, with “Monster Mash.” Other Share-TheFun acts receiving participation ribbons were: Nicolas Fallis, with two piano pieces, and Nathan Elsbernd, also with two piano pieces. Challenge classes were also a part of Spring Fest. Various classes were selected to encourage 4-H’ers to try new projects. Entries were accepted in the following categories: cake decorating, quilt blocks, and healthy substitutions. Cerro Gordo County 4-H members participating were: Kacy Sampson, Aunalea Timpe, Jenna Smith, Annie Moore, Hanna Wendel, Sarah Wendel, Ryan Wendel, and Erin Smith.
