Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa Accredited by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons MASON CITY - The Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons (AcoS) has granted Three-Year Accreditation with Commendation to the Cancer Program at Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa. A facility receives a Three-Year Accreditation with Commendation following the on-site evaluation by a physician survey or during which the facility demonstrates a Commendation level of compliance with one or more standards that represent the full scope of the cancer program, including cancer committee leadership, cancer data management, clinical services, research, community outreach, and quality improvement. In addition, a facility receives a compliance rating for all other standards.

About Mercy Cancer Center Mercy Cancer Center offers patients the most sophisticated oncology care; including state-of-the-art radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and surgery in combination with clinical research, a comprehensive breast center, genetic counseling, and many support services. Mercy Cancer Center is staffed by highly specialized professionals with years of experience in providing the best cancer care. This includes board certified physicians, nurses, therapists, dosimetrists, physicists, pharmacists, and other support staff. AMES — Reid Clagett, of Kensett, was a featured soloist with the Iowa State University Symphony on March 24, at the Martha-Ellen Tye Recital Hall at ISU. Each year, the ISU Symphony showcases some of the best student musicians on campus during its annual Concert of Soloists. Students participate in a rigorous, multi-staged competition to get the opportunity to solo with the ISU Symphony. While in high school and under the direction of Loraine Mix, Clagett was a three-time All-State musician on bass trombone, and toured Europe in 2006 and 2008 with the Iowa Ambassadors of Music symphonic band. He is currently in his third year at ISU, working toward his Bachelor of Music degree in performance. Clagett was formerly a member of the Iowa State Marching Band and Symphonic Band and is currently performing with the ISU Symphony Orchestra, ISU Wind Ensemble, ISU Jazz Band 1, ISU Brass Quintet, and ISU Trombone Quartet. In 2011 he played in the pit orchestra for the Iowa State University performance of “Kiss Me, Kate” and toured Europe in May with the ISU Wind Ensemble. Clagett is an active member of Kappa Kappa Psi and is currently a trombone student of Dr. David Stuart. Following his studies at ISU he will be pursuing a graduate degree in low brass performance.

AWARDS AND ACHIEVEMENTS Forest City All State Speech nominations FOREST CITY — The Iowa High School Speech Association announces that the Forest City Varsity and Junior Varsity Speech teams will be represented by 12 performances at the All State Individual Speech Festival, March 26, at the University of Northern Iowa. This is the largest number of nominations ever received by the Forest City High School Speech Team. Forest City had the second highest number of students selected for individual All-State in the State of Iowa with 12 nominations, second only to Dubuque’s 16 nominations. Coaches for Forest City are Scott Bertelsen, Dan May and Julie Keely. The following Forest City students represent the best of IHSSA speakers in the state of Iowa: Riley Scharper — Solo musical theatre performance; Jon Happel — Solo improvisation performance, third year; Nathan Koch — Storytelling, second year; Nate Byro — After dinner performance; Andrew Henken — Solo improvisation, second year; Russell Scharper — prose, second year.
