Norman promoted to master sergeant LIME SPRINGS — U.S. Army Airborne Ranger Sergeant First Class Billy J. Norman was promoted to master sergeant on April 8, at Ft. Bragg, N.C. Norman’s parents, Ron and Susan Norman, of Saratoga, were present at the promotion ceremony. Norman graduated from Riceville Community High School in 1995 and enlisted in the U.S. Army on June 1, 1996. He has served one tour of duty in Kuwait, two in Iraq, three in Afghanistan, and one to Ethiopia.

St. Olaf Honors Day NORTHFIELD, Minn. — Daniel Lee and Mark Lee, of Mason City, Iowa, are among the more than 900 St. Olaf College students who were recognized for academic achievement at the college’s annual Honors Day convocation, Friday, May 6. AMES — Alexander Furleigh was inducted into membership of Cardinal Key, the highest All-University Honorary, April 17, at Iowa State University. Membership is based on excellence in leadership, scholarship, character, and service to the community. Furleigh has been involved in a variety of leadership roles across campus, including director of Student Affairs and director of Special Projects for the Government of Student Body, teaching assistant for International Politics, Honors Ambassador, first-year Honors Program leader, Iowa State Editorial Board member, and Dance Marathon Entertainment Committee member. He participated in ISU’s Study Abroad program last summer at the University of Velencia in Spain. Furleigh has also stayed active in the Greek Community, serving as the member education officer, the alumni relations officer, philanthropy chair, Lip Sync co-chair, and on the executive board of his fraternity, Tau Kappa Epsilon. He will work this summer for Northrop Grumman Corporation in Rolling Meadows, Ill., as a supply chain management intern. Furleigh’s parents are Ben and Kathy Furleigh, of Clear Lake.
