Nickerson, 65 years Richard “Dick” Nickerson and Pauline Wodarcak of Clear Lake, Iowa, were married Feb. 18, 1950, at the First Methodist Church in Mason City. Dick and Pauline are the fourth generation to inhabit the family farm southeast of Clear Lake. They have worked side-by-side to continue a legacy which remains today as the sixth generation upholds the values of the family business as stewards of the soil. Dick and Pauline raised a family of four daughters on the farm: Nancy Nickerson (Steve Adair), Leslie (Randy) Law, Kay (Tim) Turek, all of Clear Lake, and Julie (Bob) McPheron of New London, Iowa. They have 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

AWARDS & ACHIEVEMENTS Military Note Master Sergeant Kelly Gorman is retiring from the United States Army in March of 2015, after serving 23 years on active duty. Kelly is a 1991 graduate of Osage High School and a former resident of Orchard, Iowa. Master Sgt. Gorman entered the Army in 1992 as a cavalry scout and attended training at Fort Knox, Kentucky. He was assigned to Fort Knox, Kentucky, for two years. He was re-assigned to Vilseck, Germany, for two years as a gunner in a HMMWV scout platoon. Upon returning to the states, he was assigned to 1st Armor Training Brigade at Fort Knox, Kentucky, as a cavalry instructor and a long-range planner/ scheduler. In 2000, he was assigned as a scout section sergeant at Camp Garryowen, South Korea, located 5 KM south of the de-militarized zone. Following his tour in South Korea, he returned to Fort Knox, Kentucky, where he served as a Senior Drill Sergeant. In 2008 he attended re-classification training at Fort Huachuca, Arizona, and was awarded the military occupational specialty of intelligence analyst. He was subsequently assigned to the Analytical Collection Element, 1st Infantry
Newman Catholic Honor Rolls Division, Fort Riley Kansas. His unit deployed in 2010 to Basrah, Iraq, where he served as the targeting section NCOIC. Upon returning to the U.S. in 2011, he was reassigned to the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., where he worked as a human intelligence collection manager in the Defense Intelligence Agency. In November, 2012, he was selected to serve as the senior enlisted advisor for the Middle East Africa Regional Center, with an assigned staff of more than 800 government civilians, contractors, and joint military personnel. Kelly Gorman is married to YoungUn Kim Gorman and they currently reside in northern Virginia. They have one daughter, Susan, and three sons: Kiyun, Killian, and Keenan. His short term plans include continuing to work as an intelligence analyst in support of the Dept. of Defense, and his long term plans are to open a full time martial arts studio. He is currently enrolled in the B.S. for business management program at Stratford University. He is the son of Linda Chinnery Gorman Stoner formerly of Orchard, Iowa, and the late Dennis P. Gorman of Charles City, Iowa.
Wolf named to William Penn University President’s list GARNER — Jake Wolf was named to the William Penn University President’s list for the fall semester of 2014. Inclusion on this list is reserved for students with
a GPA of 3.9-4.0. Wolf’s GPA was 3.97. Jake is a graduate of Garner-Hayfield/Ventura High school, and is the son of Todd and Donna Wolf, of Garner.

AWARDS & ACHIEVEMENTS Rottinghaus named Noon Rotary Club Student of Month MASON CITY — Ashley Rottinghaus, a senior at Mason City High School, was selected as the Mason City Noon Rotary Club’s “Student of the Month” for February. She is the daughter of Joe M. and Shari Rottinghaus. Rottinghaus is a member of the Mason City High School Symphonic Band, Mohawk Power Pep Band, and Marching Band, where she is a drill leader. She is involved in the Silver Cord program and intramural basketball, and is the president of National Honor Society. She is a three-time varsity letterwinner in volleyball and girls tennis, and served as a team co-captain for two years in volleyball. Her awards and honors include: Principal’s List, Honor Roll, CIML Rottinghaus
All-Academic in volleyball and tennis, Academic Letter Winner, Honorable Mention Northern Division All C.I.C. for volleyball, 2-year Iowa All-State Instrumental Musician, and the 2014 Gerald R.
