MASON CITY — Amanda Rowland and Mike Patras were united in marriage on Sept. 10, 2011, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Mason City, Iowa.

Amanda is the daughter of Bill and Michelle Rowland of Mason City. Mike’s parents are Rich and Jeannie Patras of Mason City.

Maid of honor was Mackenzie Ozvog. Amanda’s other attendants were Jessica May and Sarah Patras. Best man was Kevin Patras. Mike’s other attendants were Zach Jones and Brett Rowland.

The flower girls were Ashley Rees and Kinsley Carr.

The ring bearer was Kaden Carr. Ushers were Matthew Patras and Bradley Patras. The bride’s personal attendant was Sheila Rees.

A reception was held at Knights of Columbus hall.

Amanda graduated from Iowa State University, and is employed by Wells Fargo Home Mortgage of Urbandale, Iowa. Mike graduated from North Iowa Area Community College, and is employed by Best Buy of West Des Moines, Iowa.

The couple will reside in Urbandale, Iowa.

Katie graduated from North Iowa Area Community College Physical Therapist Assistant Program in 2008, and is Director of Rehabilitation at ONR, Inc., in Eldora, Iowa.

DYLAN ABELL, of Dougherty, Iowa, is the son of Karen Abell and the late David Abell of Rockford, Iowa.

Dylan graduated from NIACC in 2005, and is District Manager with Performance Matters Associates.

The Lions Club, in partnership with East HyVee store, served barbecue grilled chicken from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The Evening Lions use their profits from the chicken barbecue to serve the community in various ways.

The majority of funds provide eye exams and glasses, including hearing aids to those who can’t afford

Bang, 58 years Vernon and Ardys (Holstad) Bang of Plano, Texas, were married June 6, 1954, at Salem Church in Lake Mills, Iowa.

They will celebrate their 58th anniversary.

Holstad, 50 years Marlin and Lil (Chamberlin) Holstad of Union City, Tenn., were married Dec. 29, 1962. They will celebrate their 50th anniversary.

Lee and Gwen (Holstad) Brown of Rockford, Ill., were married Sept. 12, 1964, at the Lutheran Church in Iowa City, Iowa.

Lee and family moved from Minneapolis to Lake Mills in 1971. Lee retired from Fleetguard in 1998. Gwen retired from LMCS in 1996.

Their daughters, Karen, who graduated in 1984, and LeAnn, who graduated in 1986, were both band queens as was Gwen many years ago. Both girls graduated from Iowa State University and moved to the Chicago area.

After retirement, Lee and Gwen also moved to the Chicago area to be closer to their family. They have six grandchildren.

They will celebrate their anniversary at a family reunion at the home of Steve and Stacey Holstad, 5074 Apricot Ave., Emmons, Iowa.

Army National Guard Pfc. James P. Elliott deployed to Afghanistan to serve in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Elliott is a petroleum supply specialist with the 132nd Multi-Role Bridge Company, Redding, Calif.

He has served one year in the military. He is the son of Jerald B. Elliott, of Riceville, Iowa, and the son-in-law of Carl and Deborah Goltz, of Weed, Calif. Elliott is a 2009 graduate of Jefferson High School, Mount Shasta, Calif.

Army Pvt. Erik T. Wyatt graduated from the basic field artillery cannon crewmember advanced individual training course at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla.

He is the son of Colette R. Wyatt, of Osage, and brother of Jamie A. Wyatt, of Des Moines. He is a 2011 graduate of Osage High School.

Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Shook, along with fellow sailors and Marines aboard the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise (CVN 65) commemorated the 70th anniversary of the World War II Battle of Midway with a ceremony, a fitting tribute given the ship’s close ties to the battle. The previous USS Enterprise (CV6) and her wing played a vital role in the pivotal battle that took place June 4-7, 1942. The Battle of Midway is regarded as the turning point in the war of the Pacific. Alongside three other carriers, the USS Enterprise and the U.S. Strike Forces defeated the Imperial Japanese navy carrier task force under the direction of commanderin-chief of the Japanese Combined Fleet, Admiral Yamamoto. USS Enterprise and her wing were credited with sinking three of the four Japanese carriers that day at Midway.
