A portion of the funding for Post Prom came from a bake sale and the selling of HyVee coupon books. Donations from area businesses and private individuals made the event a tremendous success. Some of this year’s activities included Casino games, a Zumba class, inflatable games (a slide, miniature golf, basketball hoop, and Twister), karaoke, a photo booth and a hypnotist. Great food consisting of pizza, wings, fruit kabobs, cookies, crackers, Runts, Swedish fish, and pop and water was available. Some of the prizes given away included iPads, a Wii system, Garmin Navigator, Kindle Fire, microwave, TV, luggage, and a gaming chair. KIRKSVILLE, Mo. — Nathan Hardy, of Mason City, Iowa, was among 42 students recently inducted into the Delta of Missouri Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa at Truman State University. He is a senior philosophy and religion major at Truman State, and is the son of Dan and Nora Hardy, of Mason City. The Truman State University chapter of Phi Beta Kappa received its national charter January 2001, and is one of only four campuses in the state to receive a Phi Beta Kappa charter. Phi Beta Kappa is the nation’s oldest undergraduate academic honor society in the liberal arts and sciences. It was founded in 1776 at the College of William and Mary. Currently chapters exist at 280 institutions of higher learning throughout the United States.
To qualify for the trip, students must be high school sophomores or juniors, living in the Hampton-Dumont, CAL, West Fork, or AGWSR (Ackley-Geneva-Wellsburg-Steamboat Rock) school districts, or their parents must be members of Franklin REC. The selection process also includes a test and interview. Whitney Ringleb, daughter of Harold and Karen Ringleb, Hampton, was selected as the Youth Tour at-large representative, selected by the IAEC (Iowa Association of Electric Cooperatives) in Des Moines. The at-large representative is a sophomore or junior whose parent is employed by an electric cooperative that is a member of the IAEC.

Both are eighth graders at John Adams Middle School Chase Kuecker, of Prairie City, and grandson of Paul Olson, of Mason City, is also a student ambassador who will be traveling with the People to People Iowa delegation. They are among 17 students from Iowa touring the United Kingdom, Ireland, Scotland and Wales, June 10-28. Each can earn academic credit while getting to know the people, culture and history of the places they visit. Dwight D. Eisenhower founded the People to People International Student Ambassador Program in 1956 with the goal of developing leadership skills by promoting world peace and understanding through America’s youth.
La James graduates MASON CITY — Linda Ferguson and Christen Cody are recent graduates of La James College. Ferguson received her degree in the career of nail technology. She is employed at Aesthetic Touch Day Spa in Mason City. Cody received her degree in the career of massage therapy at La’James College. She is working at Glitter Spalon, Mason City.

AWARDS AND ACHIEVEMENTS Iowa Academy of Science meeting STORM LAKE — Molly Urness, of Clarion, and Marc Legge, of Garner, made presentations at the Iowa Academy of Science annual meeting April 20-21, in Mason City. Both are students at BVU (Buena Vista University), Storm Lake. Twenty-nine BVU students, mostly biology majors, made 31 individual and group poster and oral presentations at the event, held at North Iowa Area Community College. This is the largest group of BVU students in over two decades who have made presentations at the Iowa Academy of Science annual meeting.
