HAMPTON — Laura Schnabel and Kyle Hegtvedt were united in marriage on August 17, 2013, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hampton, Iowa, with the Rev. Karl Bollhagen officiating the ceremony. Laura is the daughter of Lester and Eva Schnabel of Sheffield. Kyle is the son of Dan and Laurie Hegtvedt of Mason City. Grandparents of the bride are Lula Bell of Klemme and Glenn Schnabel of Sheffield. Grandmother of the groom is Lois Hegtvedt of Rockwell. Maids of Honor were Rebecca Schnabel and Paula Schnabel, sisters of the bride. Bridesmaids were Heidi Hendrick and Melissa Buenneke, friends of the bride. Best Man was Thor Theis, friend of the groom. Groomsmen were Shawn Wilkins, friend of the groom, Blake Schultz, cousin of the groom, and Matthew Schnabel, brother of the bride. The flower girl was Kylee Bohl, niece of the groom. Personal attendants were Katlyn Hegtvedt and Kristan Hegtvedt, sisters of the groom. Ushers were Brock Schultz, cousin of the groom, Austin Schnabel, Arion Schnabel, and Anthony Schnabel, cousins of the bride. Guest book attendant was Rosemary Nielsen, cousin of the groom. Gift attendants were Megan Ries and Justine Roose, friends of the bride. Flower attendant was Carol Schnabel, aunt of the bride. Videographer was Jenna Krumm, friend of the bride. A reception was held at the Franklin County Convention Center. Hosts and Hostesses were Keith and Elsie Frohwein, uncle and aunt of the bride, and Jeff and Lisa Schultz, uncle and aunt of the groom. Cake servers were Deb Watters and Sandy Nielsen, aunts of the groom. Laura is employed by Iowa Specialty Hospital. Kyle is employed by Dedicated Logistics, Inc. The couple resides in Rockwell.

Children of the couple are Aaron and Paul Krogh (Olympia, Wash.), Melody Molln (Henderson, Nev.) and Whitney Molln (Denver, Iowa). Dennis is a school social worker with AEA 267 and Kerry is a Professor of Biology and Humanities at Waldorf College. The couple resides in Mason City.

Iowa State University honors Potts as 2014 ‘Student Sensation’ AMES — Kristin Potts, of Mason City, was named a 2014 “Student Sensation,” by the Iowa State University College of Human Sciences. Potts helped students master difficult concepts while working as a teaching assistant in anatomy
labs, according to a news release. She is among 15 students selected for the honor in 2014. Sensations are selected by Iowa State’s Human Sciences Student Council through a competitive process and are recognized by
the dean’s office. Those selected are held up as role models for others to emulate. Potts is a 2014 spring graduate of ISU, with a degree in kinesiology and health, and will attend dental school at the University of Iowa, this fall.

Award & Achievement Dorn awarded IHERF Scholarship MASON CITY — Carrie Dorn, of Mason City, a registered nurse at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, was awarded a $3,000 scholarship from the IHERF (Iowa Hospital Education and Research Foundation) to pursue a Bachelor of Nursing degree from the University of Iowa. She is among 34 students from Iowa who received assistance this year from the IHERF Health Care Careers Scholarship Program, which is supported by the
Iowa Hospital Association (IHA). In exchange for that financial support, students who receive scholarships agree to work one year in an Iowa hospital for each year they receive an award. Hospital leaders from all parts of the state evaluated scholarship applications from more than 100 qualified students who were judged on grade-point average, a written personal statement, letters of reference, and extracurricular, community and health care-related activities.

Award & Achievement Students honored at Governor’s Scholar Recognition Ceremony DES MOINES — T he 11th annual Governor’s Scholar Recognition Ceremony was held April 27 at Hy-Vee Hall in Des Moines. The statewide program, sponsored by the Iowa Governor’s office, Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) and its title sponsor the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation (IFBF), honored 435 high school seniors from throughout Iowa. Each high school was invited to select their senior student or students with the highest academic ranking, based on grade point average for their first seven semesters. Students selected for the award also had the opportunity to recognize their favorite/most influential teacher. Ninety-nine percent of those recognized also participate in extracurricular school activities, with over 80 percent participating in at least one interscholastic sport.
