WE WON LAST YEAR, NOW IT COULD BE YOUR TURN IN 2016 IT’S an expensive business getting married. Some couples plan their big day years in advance to help pay for the extravagance. Rachel Langford and Francis Moore from St Oswald’s in Gloucester were one of those couples. Newly-engaged early last year, they set a date for 2018 to seal the knot. But that date has been pulled forward by two years and they will step down the aisle this February. Why? Because, to their total surprise and delight, they were the lucky winners of the Gloucester Citizen Win a Wedding Competition 2015. A beaming Rachel still can’t belief their good fortune. The nearest she has ever got to coming out top in a competition was winning best Hallowe’en costume once upon a time. But who says fairy tales don’t come true. Rachel said: “I’m so glad we did it. It’s like a dream come true for us.” Rachel, 30, who works as a mortgage advisor, added: “Francis and I had talked about marriage for a long time but, realistically, we wouldn’t have been able to tie the knot until 2018 because of money. Now it is happening this February, which is amazing.” Rachel and Francis met at a nightclub in Cheltenham six years ago and got engaged at Winter Wonderland in London. “Francis saved up the money for the ring and asked me to marry him at Hyde Park. It was very romantic,” beamed Rachel. The couple enlisted friends, family and anybody else who was willing to help them collect tokens from the Citizen in last year’s competition to be in with a chance of winning their wedding. Rachel isn’t giving much away about the dress but she is clearly delighted with her choice from Linda Gray. She said: “It’s the perfect dress and I am very happy with it. If it hadn’t been for the competition I would definitely have been on a tighter budget. I now have the dress I dreamed of. “And Hatton Court is going to be the best venue. I’m counting down the days now. “I am so glad we entered the competition. I would encourage anyone thinking of entering to just do it. If we can win then anyone can. The couple who receive the most votes will be the winners. They will be contacted via telephone and invited along to the venue for a personal viewing and a photograph for the paper. The winner will then be announced in the paper on Thursday March 24. The wedding must not exceed the budgets allocated from individual suppliers, if it does; it is the responsibility of the winner to cover the difference. If the amount is less than the allocated budget from each supplier the winner will not be credited the difference. 17. Any extras required (e.g additional flowers, drinks, breakages) are the responsibility of the winner(s). 18. Any additional cost accrued above and beyond that agreed by individual prize providers will be paid for by the winner(s), who will be required to pay the difference in full.
