WE WON LAST YEAR, NOW IT COULD BE YOUR TURN IN 2016 WITH the Gloucestershire Echo’s next Win A Wedding competition getting under way, last year’s winners are gearing up to prepare for their wedding in March. When Matt Stanley answered a phone call from his fiancee telling him they had won a wedding he thought it was a joke. Shortly after this, the couple received a confirmation letter in the post, along with an invitation to look around their wedding venue – the Hatherley Manor Hotel – in advance of the big day. The couple are now eagerly awaiting their wedding. Matt and Sam, who live in Arle Road, Cheltenham, beat 66 other couples to win their wedding. Those who entered managed to attract a total of 3,462,950 votes. Matt and Sam’s bid racked up a whopping 354,100 of them. The couple went to extraordinary lengths to win the prize wedding, which was worth more than £8,000. Some days they would buy as many as 150 copies of the Echo. The hard work paid off and the couple were left ecstatic. Matt, 28, said: “It was so surreal. I never thought we would be able to afford a wedding as nice as this. “They took us into the bridal suite and, if we had won one night there, we would have been over the moon, so to win the whole wedding, we can’t put into words.” The couple said that winning the wedding happened at exactly the right time because he and his 31-year-old fiancee Sam had just bought a house and their money was tight. They added that they had both visited the hotel before and would have loved to get married there if they had been able to afford it. “Our lives revolved around this competition for a month,” said Matt. “Even our grandparents went knocking on doors in Hatherley asking people to help us.” Matt and Sam have two children – 11-year-old Cassidy and five-year-old Alexcia. Matt is a homes negotiator at Andrews estate agents. He said he was glad he bought so many copies of the Echo, even though they left a dent on his office desk. Sam, who works as an assistant cook at Gardners Lane Primary School in Cheltenham, said: “The win is massive and we were shocked. We feel lucky we have good family and friends who support us. We’re appreciative of it.”
