From Darkness to Sight From Darkness to Sight chronicles the remarkable life journey of Dr. Ming ,\Tang, Harvard & MIT (MD, magna cum laude); PhD (laser physics), a world renowned laser eye surgeon, philanthropist, and Kiwanis Nashvillian of the Year. As a teenager, Ming fought valiantly to escape one of history's darkest eras - China's Cultural Revolution - during which millions of innocent youth were deported to remote areas to face a life sentence of poverty and hard labor. He eventually made his way to the U.S. with $50 in his pocket, where against all odds, he later earned a PhD in laser physics and graduated with the highest honors from Harvard Medical School and MIT.

Dr. Wang has performed over 55,000 eye procedures including on over 4,000 physicians. He has published 9 textbooks, holds several U.S. patents, and performed the world's first laser artificial cornea implantation. Drs. Ming Wang and Joshua Frenkel are currently the only surgeons in the state who performs 3D SMILE and 3D LASIK (18+ ), 3D Implantable Contact Lens (21 + ), 3D Forever Young Lens (45+ ), and 3D Laser Cataract Surgery (60+ ). Dr. Wang established a non-profit charity, which to date has helped patients from over 40 states in the U.S. and 55 countries, with all sight restoration surgeries performed free-of-charge.

agic carpet ride? Check. Wish-granting Genie? Check. Evil sorcerer? Check. Alluring princess? Check.
Aladdin and His Winter Wish checks all the boxes of the children’s classic we all know and love. But this is not that same cookie-cutter story about a street rat’s rise to royalty — this is panto. As the show’s producer and brainchild behind Lythgoe Family Give Kids Panto Kris Lythgoe puts it, “panto is just a part of life in the UK.” “Every city, every town, every village does an amateur and a professional panto every holiday,” Lythgoe says. “Everybody grows up going to pantos, so they act as kids’ first introduction to live theatre.” Known for their creativity and involvement in television hits American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance, the Lythgoe family prides themselves in bringing the British tradition across the pond. For the past decade, Lythgoe Family Give Kids Panto has offered affordable and interactive theatre to families across America. The age-old fairy tale of Aladdin is given a modern twist with comedy, dance, and contemporary songs interwoven into the script — from Ray Charles to Bruno Mars. But Aladdin and His Winter Wish isn’t just for kids. Each Lythgoe Family Give Kids Panto production is modernized with topical scripts for parents, too. “As parents, we all take our kids to things they love much more than we do, and we sort of sit there and twiddle our thumbs,” says Lythgoe. “That’s why we make it relatable to adults and

From Broadway bars and pedal taverns, to bachelorette parties and Bird scooters, everything in Nashville is fair game. “We write the script about the city,” Lythgoe says, “so you’ll see there’s a lot of jokes and colloquialisms about the area around Nashville.” Based on the Grimm fairy tale, the story follows Aladdin, who meets and falls in love with the Princess with the help of his magical Genie. When she is taken by the evil magician Abanazar, Aladdin must implore the help of his hopeless brother Wishee Washee to defeat the evil magician and make his wishes come true. The cast intentionally blends big names with up-and-coming local talent. Aladdin and His Winter Wish features recording artist Kira Kosarin (Nickelodeon’s The Thundermans) as the Princess, Damon J. Gillespie (Newsies, Aladdin, NBC’s Rise) as Aladdin, Richard Karn (Home Improvement) as the hypnotismprone Sultan, Bruce Vilanch (Hairspray, Hollywood Squares) as Widow Twanky, Josh Adamson (ABC’s First Landing) as Abanazar, Jonathan Meza (The Familiar of Zero) as Wishee Washee, and Mykal Kilgore (NBC’s Jesus Christ Superstar Live) as the Genie. The production is directed by Ernie Nolan, artistic director for the Nashville Children’s Theatre and choreographed by Chase Benz (Step Up 2). “This all started with my son. There just wasn’t a lot of live theatre opportunities for young kids when we moved out here,” he says. “With these shows, the kids are on the edge of their seat and engaged because they think they’re in the show and — in a way — they are.”

He is best known for his work in “The Jumpitz” on Nick Jr. and his various voiceover work in the anime industry. Kira Kosarin (Princess) is best known for her starring role as ‘Phoebe Thunderman’ in the hit series, “The Thundermans” on Nickelodeon. The series recently finished its 4th (and final) season and 99th episode on-air. In addition to the show being consistently tapped as Nickelodeon’s #1 series and winning the KCA 2016 ‘Favorite TV Show’, Kira has also been nominated 3 years in a row for the Kid’s Choice Awards for the ‘Favorite TV Actress’ category and was just seen guest hosting the 2017 Kid’s Choice Awards alongside John Cena. Bruce Vilanch (Widow Twankey) Bruce Vilanch has been wriggling in and out of foundation garments for some time. For two years, he toured America and conquered Broadway as 'Edna Turnblad', Baltimore housewife and superstar, in the musical Hairspray. Now he's back in harness as the 'Widow Twankey', a "classical" mainstay of the London Stage at Christmas. In his other life, he's won six Emmys, two of them for co-writing a pair of Billy Crystal shows. For six years, he was a Hollywood square, just to the left of Whoopi, if that's possible. He has been a central figure in the comic careers of Bette Midler, among others, a lot of which is chronicled in the documentary GET BRUCE!, which was produced in 1977 by Harvey Weinstein, who for some reason left him alone. Oh, and remember that Dolly Parton Sunday night variety show on ABC in the 80s? Yeah....he wrote some of that, too. Richard Karn (Sultan) is well known for his extraordinary success for eight seasons as ‘Al’ in “Home Improvement” and four seasons as the host on “Family Feud”. His many notable film and television performances include “Last Man Standing”, “Air Bud”, “Snow Buddies”, “Desperately Seeking Susan”, “House of Games”, “That 70s Show”, among others. Other recent credits include “Pen15” for Hulu, “A Daughter’s Nightmare” for
Lifetime, “Detroiters” for Comedy Central as well as independent films “Amanda and the Fox”, “F*&% the Prom”, “The Horse Dancer” and “Gordon Family Tree”. Richard has performed on Broadway in Me and My Girl and starred in the title role in Larry Shue’s The Foreigner. Other New York Theater includes Losing It and The Other Shore. Richard’s previous starring roles include Shear Madness (The New Theater, Kansas City), I Ought to be in Pictures (Alhambra), Aladdin and His Winter Wish (Pasadena Playhouse), The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (The New Theater, Kansas City) and Game Show (Stage West). Richard received a Masters degree from the Professional Actors Program at the University of Washington. Josh Adamson (Abanazar) is originally from Australia and is now based out of Los Angeles. Albanus Thierry (Al Pacino/Dancer). Pacino/Dancer). A Nashville native, Albanus trained at Nashville School of Arts under the direction of Stacie Flood-Popp and Richard Griffin. Post graduation Albanus went on to perform and tour throughout the US as well as internationally with his former band Contagious. He then went on to launch his solo career, release new music and tour. During this time he also taught and choreographed at various studios and with various artists, specializing in Contemporary and Hip Hop throughout Tennessee and the U.S. As of late, through dance he’s become a working model landing three international campaigns with American Eagle Outfitters, as well as being a part of the Millennium Dance Complex family. Anna Melendres (Handmaiden/Dancer) graduated high school in 2018 from Orange County School of the Arts in the Commercial Dance Conservatory. Represented with Clear Talent Group, she is now working as a professional dancer in Los Angeles. She has appeared on NBC’s “The Voice” and “This Is Us”, performed in the Hollywood Christmas Parade, and worked as a cheerleader in the yYouTube series, “Boss Cheer”. Daniel Thomas (Al Borland/Dancer). Borland/Dancer). Originally from Honolulu, HI, Daniel was trained in Ocean Springs, MS under the counsel of well known choreographer and dance educator Donna Burke. When he graduated, he moved on to train in LA and assisted master teachers like “So You Think You Can Dance’s” Katee Shean and Tyce Diorio, Al Bee, Nick Gonzalez, and the late Andre Fuentes. Picking up choreography credits from his award winning competition numbers all over the US, working with the ALDC for the TV show “Dance Moms”, dancing and being featured in movies like Miley Cyrus’s “The Last Song”, Hilary Duff’s “Business and the Briefcase”, and Ryan Reynolds’s “The Green Lantern” just to name a few. Daniel teaches on circuit with NYDE and the new Australian convention Xchange Dance tour and danced on the Grand Ole Opry stage with American Idol artist Mandisa and Christian superstar Matthew West. Daniel can also be seen as the lead dancer dancing with “So You Think You Can Dance’s” Joy Spears in the latest Florida, Georgia Line music video. Michael Sobie (Musical Director) is an award-winning pianist with credits encompassing film, television, and stage. He is the conductor for Ramin Djawadi’s Game of Thrones Live Concert Experience, and has also worked with the composer as keyboardist and assistant conductor on three previous tours as well as being the pianist on soundtracks for the “Amazing Stories” reboot, “A Wrinkle in Time” and “The Mountain Between Us”. Additional screen credits include “A Christmas Story: Live” for Fox, Hulu’s original documentary, “Too Funny to Fail”, John Piscitello’s score for “Memory Games”, and Noah Baumbach’s “Marriage Story” for Netflix. Michael has toured the U.S. and world as a pianist and conductor of Broadway musicals Wicked, Les Misérables, Altar Boyz, Aida and Xanadu, and has also performed regularly as the pops pianist with the Grand Rapids Symphony Orchestra. Michael is the music director for Grammy nominated Perla Batalla at her sold-out concerts across North America and for Sing: On Tour and Universal Monsters Live at Universal Studios in Osaka, Japan. He has acted as a vocal coach and/or pianist for such artists as Il Divo, Scarlett Johansson, Carole Cook, Bruce Vilanch, Tamyra Gray, Cole Escola, and the Los Angeles Ballet, with which he performed the iconic celeste solo for their production of Tchaikowsky’s The Nutracker. Michael Orland Orland (Musical Supervisor/Arranger) Supervisor/Arranger) is thrilled to have been a part of the mega-hit TV show “American Idol” for 16 seasons as the Pianist, Arranger, Vocal Coach and Associate Musical Director both on FOX and ABC. In between those seasons were stints as Music Director/vocal coach on “Little Big Shots” and “Forever Young.” Michael has appeared on “Oprah,” “Entertainment Tonight,” “Access Hollywood” and “The Ellen Show.” He has collaborated with music industry giants such as Burt Bacharach, Neil Sedaka, Diane Warren, Elton John, Dolly Parton, Harry Connick Jr, Jennifer Lopez, and Keith Urban, all as a result of "American Idol". He also served as a pianist/coach for the NBC summer series “America’s Got Talent” (Seasons 1 & 2) and “American Juniors” and has associate produced two hit singles, “God Bless the U.S.A.” and “What the World Needs Now is Love” for “American Idol” as well as the hit compilation CD from “American Juniors.” In addition to playing and conducting for many celebrities, Michael played for the hit shows “Forbidden Broadway,” “Ruthless!,” and “When Pigs Fly” in Los Angeles. Prior to “American Idol,” television appearances have included “The Rosie O’Donnell Show,” “Leeza,” “The Maury Povich Show,” “The Wayne Brady Show” and “Geraldo.” He also appeared on the hit sitcom “The Nanny,” performing an original song co-written with Roslyn Kind. For 13 seasons, Michael also musical directed one of the touring companies of the “Radio City Christmas Spectacular” starring the world-famous Rockettes. WHAT IS A PANTO? A Panto is derived from the British institution, which is a musical show based on fairy tales. Historical fairy tales include Cinderella, Snow White, Aladdin, Jack and the Beanstalk, Beauty and the Beast, Robin Hood, and Mother Goose. Panto scripts are rewritten every year and include ever-changing music sourced from Billboard charts so that each production remains current. Another contemporary Panto tradition is the inclusion of celebrity guest stars. Past Panto stars include Stephan Fry, Sir Ian McKellan, Eartha Kitt, Henry Winkler, George Takei, Joan Collins, Patrick Duffy, Priscilla Presley (pictured below), and many more. The focal point of a Panto is how it brings together the family unit by way of entertainment. Whether young or old, all members of the family can enjoy a Panto!

our elementary schools in Bedford, Coffee, and Cumberland counties will participate in their first year of Tennessee Performing Arts Center’s Disney Musicals in Schools this year, continuing a rural expansion of the program developed by Disney Theatrical Group to create sustainable theatre in under-resourced schools. Cascade Elementary School and East Side Elementary School in Bedford County, North Coffee Elementary School in Coffee County and Glenn Martin Elementary School in Cumberland County will join Ida B. Wells Elementary School, Paragon Mills Elementary School and Donelson Middle School, of the Metro Nashville Public Schools system, in hosting 17-week residencies culminating in the production of a Disney KIDS or JR. musical. Last year, more than 1,300 students in 30 underresourced schools in Davidson and Bedford counties, at no cost to the students or schools, took their favorite Disney stories from the screen to the stage. Another two schools from Bedford county will participate this year. For this second year of expansion, TPAC awarded a grant to Cumberland County Playhouse in Crossville, which will work locally with the school and select another school to participate in 2020-21. “I believe the arts can positively affect the entire school culture, especially student motivation, attitudes, and attendance,” says Weslie Webster, education director at the Cumberland County Playhouse. “It fosters student expression of feelings and emotions. Expressive kids are happier kids, and happier kids find learning more enjoyable.” First-year schools receive performance rights for the Disney KIDS or Disney JR. musical of their choice, educational support materials, and guidance from TPAC teaching artists. Disney KIDS musicals are 30-minute performances that have been adapted from classic Disney films such as 101 Dalmatians, Aladdin, The Aristocats, Frozen, The Jungle Book, The Lion King, and Winnie the Pooh.
Through the unique world of musical theatre, Disney Musicals in Schools helps foster positive relationships between students, faculty, staff, parents, and the community. Over the course of three years, TPAC helps the schools establish theatre programs they can maintain. Meanwhile, teachers learn how to produce, direct, and choreograph theatre, and students develop a variety of skills including critical thinking, problem solving, ensemble building, and interpersonal communication. As a capstone, students from first-year schools perform one number from their show for fellow students, teachers, family, and more at the Student Share Celebration in TPAC’s Jackson Hall. Disney Musicals in Schools launched in 2010 to help under-resourced public elementary schools not getting equitable access to the arts. After offering the program in New York City schools, Disney Theatrical Group piloted the program in Nashville the following year and has since expanded to other cities. This is the ninth year of the partnership between Disney Theatrical Group, Metro Schools and TPAC since the program launched here in 2011. The CMA Foundation has provided financial support for the local program since 2013. Since 2011, 47 schools have participated in TPAC's Disney Musicals in Schools program, involving more than 8,000 students, more than 900 teachers and producing more than 500 performances for schools and communities. TPAC impact partners AllianceBernstein, Enterprise Solutions, Jani-King, Premiere Transportation, and Sea Salt helped provide these up-close seats to students from John Overton High School, adults from Robertson County YMCA’s After Breast Cancer Program, college students with Futuro, and YMCA Latino Achievers. These partners recognize the importance of the arts and the importance of connecting them with people who wouldn’t usually access these rare theatrical experiences. “I’ve never seen anything like that ever on stage,” says Overton student Mateen Hasan after the performance. “They presented the Caribbean culture so well that I truly believed it was real, like I wasn’t even part of the audience.” Sweetening the experience, Premiere Transportation provided Hasan and the rest of Overton's theatre program with free, stylish transportation to the performance. For Overton, a night out at the theatre was also research. The students are working on their own production of Once on This Island (which will be submitted for consideration in the Nashville High School Musical Theatre Awards, or Spotlight Awards, co-presented by Lipscomb’s College of Entertainment & the Arts and TPAC). “I’m literally speechless right now,” says Overton student Zoe Newcomb, who's preparing to play Ti Moune in their upcoming student production. “The atmosphere was amazing and really Students with Futuro before sitting on stage for Once on This Island.

brought you into it. It’s so important for people to hear this story and accept everyone the way that they are.” Overton students stayed after the performance to talk with the national tour’s cast — many of which came from the original Broadway production. Another partner, Sea Salt, created a special multi-course brunch for women in the Robertson County YMCA After Breast Cancer program before a matinee performance. Sea Salt co-owner/operator Keith Zust, who also holds a degree in Fine Arts, says he's always believed “the arts can bring beauty, truth and goodness to the world.” “It’s exciting to be part of something like the arts that has stood the test of time and allows people to get lost in story, music, and theatre,” Zust says. For one of the final evening performances, college students with FUTURO, Inc. and members of the YMCA Latino Achievers program enjoyed the on-stage seating. "It gave us such a unique perspective, different from the rest of the audience. It’s like we were there, as part of the story," says Jennifer Novo, Executive Director of FUTURO, Inc. "Our organization is one that encourages students to find their place, their purpose and meaning for their future — much like Ti Moune trying to find her place and meaning in the world." For most of these students, this was their first experience with a Broadway production. "To be able to step outside of their typical world, even for just a few hours, made it a positive, fun, and meaningful experience for our community” Novo says. Sponsors like Jani-King, AllianceBernstein, and Enterprise Solutions give back to their community because they know the impact it has. “I personally have seen and felt the effect that arts education can have on youth, and we are proud to partner with TPAC to extend that impact in the Nashville community,” says Adam Sansiveri, Managing Director of Bernstein Private Wealth Management and a TPAC Board Member.
