TPAC PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE It’s finally here. Before we take another historic step and begin our new season, let’s quickly glance in our rear-view mirror and celebrate the great work that continues at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center. We’re so proud to have added new programs that will continue this coming season and others that have yet to debut. Last September’s staged readings for Part of the Plan, a new and original musical written by Kate Atkinson and Karen Harris and featuring the music of the late singer-songwriter Dan Fogelberg, were a huge success, giving us full confidence to move forward with presenting the developmental production as part of our Broadway Series.

In a few months, we’ll once again be your home for holiday entertainment, hosting our successful Winter Holiday Fest anchored by Nashville Ballet’s Nutcracker, Nashville Repertory Theatre’s A Christmas Story, and TPAC’s presentation of The Hip Hop Nutcracker. With other programming like A Charlie Brown Christmas (December 8) and a one-nightonly performance by Mannheim Steamroller (December 28) added, we hope you, your families, and friends will share part of your holiday time with us. Also, last year marked our initial participation in the National High School Theatre Awards, or Jimmy Awards, in New York. TPAC and Lipscomb University’s College of Entertainment & the Arts partnered to host a Tony Awards-style ceremony in May 2017 and recognized top musical theatre talent among high schools in our region.

We’re thrilled at the powerhouse cast, including Broadway’s Harley Jay (RENT), as well as many talented performers from right here in Nashville, such as JT Hodges, Katy Blake, Chris Roberts, Erica Aubrey, and Benjamin D. Hale. We couldn’t be more ecstatic to host this world premiere event in Music City – where Dan lived, performed, and recorded his first album, Home Free.

Together, we sent the winners for Best Actress and Best Actor – Hatty King and Nathan Keffer – to compete against 72 other regional winners across the country. They spent a week workshopping with Broadway professionals to hone their craft, gave spectacular solo performances, and were named two of the eight national finalists!

Governor Bill Haslam recently “adopted” Dan as an Honorary Tennessean, citing the legacy of his work and noting his song “Old Tennessee” where “Life here is easy” and he’s “Wishing you’d come home to me.”

We look forward to participating again in what has become TPAC’s sixth arts education program, and we are planning to expand our reach with schools across the state. Closer to home, we launched Nashville House Concerts at our city’s historic concert hall, the War Memorial Auditorium. Hosted by SiriusXM radio host Storme Warren and singersongwriter-comedian Joe Denim in “the coolest living room you’ve never been to,” this live music and variety show showcases talent from chart-topping artists, music legends, rising stars and accomplished songwriters on the first Thursday of every month through June. Multi-platinum, multiple GRAMMY® Awardnominated Country singer Martina McBride headlined the first show on September 7, and we’re excited for what’s to come in the months ahead. For more information, visit NashvilleHouseConcerts.com. We’ve got a great line-up of arts and entertainment this year, and we hope you’ll find something that interests you. With Broadway, comedy, concerts, ballet, opera, and theatre, we have it all, and you’re always welcome at TPAC!

King and Keffer were named among Top 8 finalists in NY. TPAC President and Chief Executive Officer

Groundbreaking Tony Award-winning Best Musical

FUN HOME

makes Nashville debut at TPAC October 10-15 Every once in a while, a Broadway musical comes along that surprises, moves, and excites audiences in ways only a truly landmark musical can. Fun Home, the 2015 Tony Award-winning Best Musical based on Alison Bechdel’s hit graphic memoir, plays TPAC’s Andrew Jackson Hall October 10-15. A refreshingly honest, wholly original musical about seeing your parents through grown-up eyes, Fun Home introduces us to Bechdel at three different ages as she explores and unravels the many mysteries of her childhood that connect with her in surprising new ways. The “groundbreaking,”1 “exquisite,”2 and “unforgettable”3 new musical, a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize, was the event of the Broadway season, receiving raves from critics and audiences alike, winning five 2015 Tony Awards and making history along the way. Fun Home features music by Jeanine Tesori, book and lyrics by Lisa Kron, and direction by Sam Gold, whose work on this production earned them Tony Awards for Best Score, Best Book, and Best Direction. With this win, Lisa Kron and Jeanine Tesori also made history by becoming the first female writing team to be awarded the Tony Award for Best Score. 1 Wall Street Journal | 2 Chicago Tribune | 3 NY Daily News

Tickets for Fun Home are on sale now at TPAC.org, by phone at 615-782-4040, and at the TPAC Box Office in downtown Nashville. Groups of 10 of more call 615-782-4060. Fun Home is recommended for ages 13+ due to adult themes.

Concerns or compliments?

PatronServices@TPAC.org Accessibility Services at TPAC include parking, elevators, wheelchair seating, use of a TPAC wheelchair, designated restrooms, and services for hearing and visually impaired patrons. Infrared assisted listening devices are available at no charge at the entrance to each theater. TPAC offers signing for hearing impaired patrons, and audio description and Braille programs for blind and visually impaired patrons on the Sunday matinee in the season ticket series of HCA/TriStar Health Broadway at TPAC. Large print programs are available for Broadway and TPAC Presents shows. Special accessibility requests and concerns, excluding assisted listening headsets, should be discussed in advance with the TPAC House Manager at 615-782-4087. Reservations for a wheelchair should be made on the day of performance.

We have a captive advertising audience at every live performance.

Restrooms for Jackson Hall are located one level down from the 6th Avenue entrance, in the halls behind the seats in the tier and balcony, and downstairs in the back of the orchestra level. Restrooms for Polk Theater are located down the stairs to the left of the entrance to the orchestra level and on the balcony level. Bars are located in the lobbies and in the back of the orchestra level of Jackson Hall.
