Welcome Back!

One of the best things about the start of the new year in Las Vegas is the return of our many great shows. As many of us do during Christmas and New Year’s, almost all of our Strip performers take hard-earned time o to enjoy themselves. And while we’re glad they get to do that, we quickly come to miss the entertainment they provide. Well, they’re back! And this issue is dedicated to them. We start with one of the longest-running shows in town, and one that fans are anxiously awaiting: Penn & Teller, who have not been performing together for the last few months due to Teller’s quadruple bypass. He’s expected to rejoin the show at Rio this month. This is one fans of the duo do not want to miss (“For Their Next Trick ..., p. 32).

Cirque du Soleil fans may not realize that the Canadian troupe has added yet another show to its stellar Las Vegas Strip lineup: Mad Apple at New York-New York. If you haven’t seen it yet, you do not know what you’re missing (“Hustle and Bustle,” p. 34).

Live music fans (and fans of classic rock) will want to head to the Pearl theater at Palms to hear one of rock and roll’s most longstanding groups, REO Speedwagon (“A Guaranteed Sweet Time,” p. 17 ). Comedy fans won’t want to miss Daniel Tosh, who’s performing two dates at The Mirage as part of the Aces of Comedy series (“Powerful Punch Lines,” p. 21).

While taking advantage of all this entertainment, make sure to check out some of our distinct restaurants, from The Bedford by Martha Stewart at Paris (“The Kitchen Garden,” p. 28) to Carversteak at Resorts World (“Rare, Please!” p. 12).

Here’s to a great 2023, and here’s to the Las Vegas entertainers, restaurants, attractions and nightclubs that make it so.

Rare, Please!

Resorts World steakhouse delivers a next-level experience

There are many magnificent steakhouse experiences on the Las Vegas Strip, but Carversteak , one of the newest kids on the block, has carved out a niche already with its mix of spacious, welcoming design, some truly next-level lighting effects, a world-class cocktail program and, of course, some of the best surf and turf you’ll find anywhere.

The cocktail menu, courtesy of master mixologist Francesco Lafranconi, is a wonderland of different spirits and flavors. Highlights include the Smoked ‘N Spiced, a tableside presentation complete with a maple wood smoke-filled container to give your mixture of Michter’s US 1 single barrel rye, St. George spiced pear liqueur, M&R Ambrato vermouth and bitters a nice, extra-smoky touch. Tequila fans will want to try the Calabazarita, featuring El Tequileño reposado, house-made pumpkinagave syrup, lime and sage-infused Cointreau, all finished off with pumpkin pie spices salt.

The fun continues on the dinner menu, with imaginative starters such as bacon onion bread and caviar poppers. Meat lovers have got to try the wagyu cheesesteak bites, with aged provolone mornay and truffle

providing a significant flavor boost to the classic.

Now to that surf and turf! You can go full bore with seafood delights like lobster en croute, made with two pounds of Maine lobster wrapped in puff pastry and drizzled with lobster-cognac cream, or mizo-glazed black cod served with baby bok choy.

But really, don’t you want a steak while you’re here as well? You’ll agree, especially when you see the selection of different prestigious purveyors like Chicago-based Allen Brothers (filet mignon and bone-in filet), Flannery Beef (Kansas City, aged 28 days), and Western Reserve (Strip loin, 21 days wet-aged). Make sure to try at least one of the sauces—we’re partial to Point Reyes Blue, but peppercorn, hollandaise and Bearnaise are all terrific as well. No matter your main course, make sure to choose a couple of sides for maximum enjoyment. The crispy hot honey Brussels sprouts are a revelation (you’ve never tasted a version like before, trust us), and beer-battered onion rings and mac and cheese gratin are both solid, comforting choices. –Ken Miller

Iron Out Your Problems

Golf courses in Vegas provide gorgeous getaways

Las Vegas has always had a vibrant golf scene, with courses nestled against the mountains, facing the desert and even facing the Strip. Some are reserved for resort guests, while others are open to all. Here’s a sampling of the variety of the many courses you can access in the Vegas area.

Two of Las Vegas’ most enjoyed courses are Cascata (1 Cascata Drive, 702.294.2005 ) and Rio Secco (2851 Grand Hills Drive, 702.777.2400), both VICI Properties that are now being run by CDN Golf Management Inc. Cascata is a gorgeously manicured course in close-by Boulder City, featuring a 418-foot waterfall, lakes and streams, plus a breathtaking backdrop of red hills surrounding the course. Rio Secco is in the prestigious Seven Hills area of the southern Vegas Valley, and is nestled among native scenery with views of the Las Vegas Strip. You’ll find Butch Harmon’s School of Golf here as well. Both are about a 30-minute drive from the Strip.

For a game that’s right on the Strip itself, consider Bali Hai (5160 S. Las Vegas Blvd., 888.427.6678), just south of Mandalay Bay. This favorite offers easy access, as well as tropical landscaping and a tiki bar-inspired casual restaurant and

bar, plus the Cili restaurant for dinner after you’ve finished your last round.

Far north in the Las Vegas Valley is the Las Vegas Paiute Golf Course (10325 Nu-Wav Kaiv Blvd., 702.658.1400), which encompasses three courses, The Wolf, Sun Mountain and Snow Mountain, all with varying degrees of difficulty. Feeling cocky? Try The Wolf.

TPC Las Vegas (9851 Canyon Run Drive, 702.256.2000) is a beautiful course that often hosts celebrity events on the manicured (and recently resodded) lawns. TPC Las Vegas is a PGA Tour facility, the only public one in Las Vegas.

Out at Lake Las Vegas in Henderson, you’ll find Reflection Bay (75 Montelago Blvd., 702.740.4653), another amazing venue in an upscale community setting. The Jack Nicklaus Signature Design course is open to all.

And although it isn’t open to everyone, if you are a guest of MGM Resorts International, you’ll want to explore the decadent Shadow Creek (866.260.0069) in the northern valley, with beautiful lake settings that have inspired players and wowed celebrities for many years. Private limos and personal caddies are just a few of the benefits. –Nina King

A Guaranteed Sweet Time

Supergroup ready to deliver all its classic hits

Their music has become an eternal component of all oldies station playlists, but as strong as REO Speedwagon’s discography during the 1970s and 1980s was, the consensus among the faithful has always been that this band is best heard live. And decades later, that has not changed.

The current lineup of Neal Doughty, Kevin Cronin, Bruce Hall, Dave Amato and Bryan Hitt will bring the band’s massive catalog to the Pearl theater at Palms, including “Can’t Fight This Feeling,” “Roll With the Changes,” “Keep On Loving You,” “Take It on the Run,”

“In Your Letter,” “Don’t Let Him Go,” “Keep the Fire Burnin’,” “Sweet Time,” “The Key” and many more, reminding generations of fans why the band has charted 13 top 40 hits and sold more than 40 million records.

And with classic rock’s revival in the subsequent decades, Speedwagon became a popular mainstay at festivals and benefit concerts, performing with everyone from Pat Benatar and Chicago to Pitbull and Styx.

The band’s popularity soared again with its appearance on the hit Netflix show Ozark, and in 2021 the Cham-

paign, Ill.-based group was inducted into the Hall of Fame at the Illinois Rock & Roll Museum.

Whether you’re a fan of their instant classic album Hi Infidelity (which spawned four hits alone) or have seen them in person performing live throughout the decades, this week’s show promises to deliver plenty of memory-invoking—and memory-making—tunes. –Ken Miller

The Art of the Act

Stage production of hit reality-television series lights up the Strip

As a serial reality competition television watcher, I feel qualified to say with authority that America’s Got Talent is one of the best. From rapid-fire audition episodes to devastating eliminations and tear-jerker Golden Buzzer moments, the show takes you on a roller coaster of emotion every episode— and I just can’t get enough. And I bet you can’t either.

Luckily for us, the extremely talented class of entertainers in America’s Got Talent presents Superstars Live brings an AGT experience like no other to the Luxor Theater five nights a week. As you make your way through concessions and illuminated marquee letters to your seat, you’ll feel as if you’ve teleported to the set of the show. It’s a unique fan experience.

Prepare to be blown away once the show starts because you’re in for 75 minutes of comedy, dance, acrobatics, magic and so much more. Celebrating and showcasing a diverse array of entertainment, this production simply impresses. Not only will it impress fans of America’s Got Talent, but it will impress anybody with a taste for talent.

Acts rotate in and out from time to time, so you never know exactly what show you are going to get, but the show’s January lineup is filled with top-notch performers. Keeping the energy bright, Ukrainian dance troupe Light Balance combines LED technology with stellar hip-hop moves to create upbeat performances that sandwich the show.

Adding to the good vibes, rapping magician Mervant Vera seamlessly combines moving rap lyrics with jaw-dropping sleight of hand, while singing ventriloquist Celia

Munoz works without dummies, creating hilarious tableaus in which she’s having phone conversations (with her voice on the other end).

Deadly Games induces jaw clenching, palm sweating and breath holding with their skilled execution of daring stunts. The popular act throws in an additional dose of danger with Alfredo Silva’s knife pitches toward Aleksandra Kiedrowicz. The duet’s pinpoint precision and invigorating showmanship makes them all the more thrilling to see.

If you prefer heartfelt moments to harrowing ones, worry not. Kodi Lee, winner of AGT ’s 14th season, tugs on the heartstrings as he brings the musical genius that made him a fan favorite onscreen to the stage. Lee’s magnificent vocals and stunning piano playing fill the theater in a tear-jerking display of brilliance. The Silhouettes conjure up their own moving moment through inspiring shadow play.

One of the more thrilling recent additions to the show is Aidan Bryant, a phenomenally talented aerialist who thrilled audiences— and all four AGT judges—during his time on the show’s 16th season, coming in second place. And drum and percussion group Pack Drumline will get your adrenaline going.

Whether you’re an AGT fan or simply looking for a great variety show, you’ll want to give this production its own Golden Buzzer. From its superb slate of entertainers to its outstanding production, America’s Got Talent presents Superstars Live delivers exceptional entertainment every single time. –Em Jurbala

Think about some of the best meals you’ve ever had. What was it that made them so amazing? The elegant atmosphere? A cocktail that made you close your eyes and smile? Service that made you feel like the most important person in the world? Dishes you enjoyed until the very last bite? Combine all those and you’ve got STK, easily one of the premier steakhouses on the Las Vegas Strip.

Love Old-Fashioneds? STK offers six different signature versions, each made with different spirits—Valencia Pig,

made with Whistlepig rye, Honey Bee Spicy with Basil Hayden bourbon, and Smoking Agave, made with Casamigos mezcal, for example. Good luck picking a favorite!

After sampling appetizers ranging from tuna tartare (here accompanied by taro chips rather than the usual potato chips, which makes a huge, delicious difference) to Lil’ Brgs (wagyu sliders with “special sauce”), you’re ready to check out the steak selection. Mac and cheese makes for a terrific side—there’s traditional, bacon and lobster (or, if you

just can’t decide, a mac and cheese trio featuring all three).

Dessert here deserves your attention. The maple-glazed STK donuts are irresistible, while the flourless chocolate cake, drizzled with chocolate ganache sauce, melts in your mouth. Is all this a bit expensive? Yes, but you won’t be complaining one bit. In fact, you may be planning your return trip as you say your goodbyes to the waitstaff. –Ken Miller

Powerful Punch Lines

Stand-up comedian delights in pushing all the boundaries at Mirage performances

How harmless, how affable, how—dare we say it?—sweet he looks. Then his mouth opens and words come out—words about handicapped people, abortion, slavery, the impoverished, pedophilia, the death penalty and 9/11. All of them deployed as punch lines.

Here’s the kicker: The words are funny, even while the subject matter would suggest otherwise. Such is the frequently incendiary stand-up style of Daniel Tosh , the controversy-courting comic who had Comedy Central viewers laughing for 12 years as the star of Tosh.0

Critical consensus on Tosh is pretty consistent, describing his act as “contentious,” “deliberately offensive” and “envelope-pushing” and his material as “black comedy.” Yet as Tosh told an interviewer about his nonpolitically correct humor: “I’m not a misogynistic and racist person … but I do find these jokes funny, so I say them.”

When doing so landed him in the critics’ crosshairs, colleagues including Chris Rock, Dane Cook, Jim Norton, Patton Oswalt and the late Gilbert Gottfried defended him. Warm and fuzzy, he’s not, but Tosh’s comedy, delivered sarcastically and sardonically, has an effect that is cathartic. Yes, you’ll laugh, but you’ll also feel like walls are being torn down, one of the noblest aims of stand-up. Offensive? Pish Tosh. –Las Vegas Magazine Staff

Take Flight(s)

It’s already one of the hottest spots on the Strip to enjoy a world-class cigar (regular attendees include A-list celebs like Alex Rodriguez, Michael Jordan and Luke Bryan), and now Eight Lounge has added even more elegance to the experience with a new spirit flight menu that features everything from locally produced masterpieces to international

favorites. And, as you would expect, all pair excellently with cigars.

The new “Flights at Eight” menu includes your choice of three to five spirits, priced starting at $20. Choices include:

• The “Battle Born” flight, featuring three premium whiskies distilled in Nevada: Frey Ranch rye, Frey Ranch

bourbon and Smoke Wagon straight bourbon ($20);

• The “Glenfiddich Series” flight, which includes the following varieties of the Speyside Scotch whiskey: 12-Year Single Malt, 14-Year Bourbon Barrel Reserve, 15-Year Solera Aged, 18-Year Ancient Reserve and 26-year Grand Couronne ($125);

Resorts World cigar lounge now offers menu of world-class whiskies

• The “Big Time Scotch” flight, a true connoisseur’s selection consisting of Port Ellen 37-Year, Convalmore 1984 32-Year, and Macallan M ($750).

Just in case the whiskey geeks out there aren’t excited enough, the lounge’s new program also features one of the most exclusive and rare spirits on the planet: Glenfiddich 50-Year Single Malt, with notes of vibrant vanilla and smoke. How rare is it? There are only 220 bottles worldwide! If you’re looking for an “only-in-Vegas” moment, this would be it. (And you know the old saying: “If you have to ask how expensive it is ...”)

Whatever whiskey experience you select, the experts at Eight lounge are able to recommend a cigar selection to complement it. You’ll be taken through all the options at a custom-built, walkin humidor stocked with more than 150 different varieties, including Montecristo, El Septimo, Arturo Fuente, Padron and more, with pricing from $14 all the way up to a $5,000 cigar, a Gurkha Maharaja proprietary blend.

The filtration inside is state of the art, too—instead of circulating stale air, new air is pumped in every four minutes, creating a fresh, clean smell. Besides cigars and the flight program, Eight Lounge offers handcrafted cocktails,

indulgent bites from next-door eatery Brezza, huge outdoor patio and live music and DJs throughout the week.

A great pairing is the El Septimo Bomba Orange cigar with the Smoked Macallan Old-Fashioned. The cocktail is a blend of Macallan Double Cask 12 Year, demerara syrup, angostura aromatic and angostura orange bitters, smoked with cherrywood or applewood. The Costa Rican cigar has dark, woodsy tones and pairs perfectly with the Old-Fashioned.

“Eight is an upscale lounge to get together with friends and enjoy the amenities of a cigar bar and create memories,” said general manager Ian Floranza, who guests can spot on any evening, helping guests pick cigars and pair cocktails, and talking shop. As Floranza says, “The common bond between two people in the cigar industry is that cigar, and they can just start a conversation from there.” –Ken Miller

Friends With Benefits

When it comes to the Las Vegas food and beverage industry, it’s a family affair for Eduardo Sanchez, the general manager of José Andrés’ China Poblano at The C osmopolitan.

His brothers and uncle are all in the industry and nudged him to follow suit because they knew he had the work ethic and personality to succeed. “I started in entry-level positions and worked my way up,” Sanchez says. “The more I learned, the more I enjoyed it.”

It was at local favorite eatery Firefly, after six years of hard work, where he

made it all the way up to management. He continued on the management track at top fine-dining spots on the Strip until 2019, when he joined China Poblano.

“I love chef José Andrés,” Sanchez says. “I feel super fortunate to be a part of this company. Since day one, it’s been such a fun ride. … We are one restaurant with two cuisines: Chinese and Mexican, but we’re not fusion. We do authentic dishes from each country.”

“One of the main things I always tell the staff is, ‘Have fun with it—never forget to have fun with this industry,’” he says. “It’s all about our guests and the team that makes it happen.

“I’m very grateful for my mentors and all those that I have met throughout this industry and have supported me in my journey. I have a very hard-working family and we were taught that no matter where or what you’re doing to always give it 110%.” –Kiko Miyasato

At Paris, you’ll find a remarkable restaurant drawn from that farmhouse inspiration, The Bedford by

Martha Stewart, where a facade of her home beckons diners in. Posts and pergolas are draped with greenery, evoking a patio feel.

As I always recommend with dinners in Vegas (and lunches and brunches, too), ordering a cocktail starts the meal off on the right foot. Here, you’ll find a variety of classics with a high-end Martha spin on ingredients—the Martha-tini features Zubrówka bison grass vodka, the frozen pomegranate Martha-rita is mixed with Casa Dragones blanco tequila, and Martha’s Perfect Manhattan contains Woodford Reserve bourbon. There are plenty of wines, including the 19 Crimes Martha’s Chard out of California and a very good selection of French wines.

That’s what you’ll notice about the whole menu—classics with a good dose of Martha to add extra oomph, like Martha’s Square Burger, which is exactly what it says it is, a hefty, square patty served with tomato jam and caramelized onions, plus crispy matchstick fries. Big Martha’s pierogis are filled with potatoes and cooked in brown but-

ter; there’s also the option of adding Golden Osetra caviar and sour cream. You can get that caviar if you choose, on Martha’s smashed baked potato, prepared tableside.

of oysters Rockefeller, steak tartare and crab cakes. However, you’ll also fine buckwheat crepes, tasty little morsels presented tableside with crème fraîche, grated hard-cooked eggs and Golden Osetra caviar.

The freshness of the ingredients here is part of the appeal, and the salads variously include red endive baby romaine and frisée, all of which will have you imagining the first plants of spring. A classic niçoise salad is composed with olive oil-packed tuna, haricot verts, vermouth-dressed potatoes and egg.

In addition to the pierogis, there is an attractive range of pasta, like the fettuccine with white sauce and aged Grana Padano adding richness; bucatini with lemons and capers (available with shaved salted bottarga); and a short rib ragu over trecce pasta with Grana Padano.

Stewarts’s eponymous items are hardly the entire menu, however. Among the choices are those classics

Whole roasted chicken is carved tableside; salmon is presented en croute with salmon mousse; and the Couscous Royale comes with a roasted lamb chop, lamb rissole and a chicken thigh. Ribeye and strip steak will satisfy hearty appetites.

The tweet from @MrTeller went out Oct. 8, two weeks and one day after his previous tweet. “Hello, all you kind friends and fans, concerned about my quadruple bypass surgery,” it reads. “I am now lucid enough to give you the latest updates. I’m at a great rehab hospital, walking around, up stairs, taking showers and getting into car seats. Feeling better every day.”

The quieter half of Penn & Teller broke the news about his own health days before Penn Jillette’s latest book, Random, was published, taking the magic world, the Las Vegas entertainment community and fans of innovative adaptations of Shakespeare by surprise while attempting to reassure everyone at the same time.

Teller addressed his main priority after recovering from surgery in a follow-up tweet. “A favor to ask: some concerned friends/fans have been contacting my personal friends pretty relentlessly for the latest updates. Please stop that. The

latest news will be here. Thanks for your understanding.”

He understood the concern. What is Penn & Teller without Teller? What is Las Vegas and the world of professional illusionists without Penn & Teller?

Teller kept his followers abreast of his progress and maintained an optimistic attitude throughout his successful recovery. He underwent intense physical therapy as friends like pianist Mike Jones snuck in treats, and Jillette’s son, Moxie, visited to practice magic with him. He was home and able to drive again by Nov. 2 and, by Thanksgiving, he announced that he was amazed by how much he felt like himself again.

The only issues that remained were if and when Teller could return to the stage, and if so to what degree? How would the show be different?

“My left side doesn’t feel right without Teller there,” Jillette told the U.K.’s Daily Mirror during his partner’s recovery. “It’s been a good 47 years, it’s something I’m as used to as my left arm.”

Raymond Joseph Teller will turn 75 this Valentine’s Day. He has spent a good portion of his lifetime performing very physical magic re-

quiring split-second timing and, for nightly shows, stamina. He has his gentle moments, though. Anyone who’s witnessed his bit with a saxophone and floating tissue knows how poignant and subtle Teller’s technique can be.

Positive press surrounding a production of his collaborative reimagination (with director Aaron Posner) of Shakespeare’s The Tempest at Bethesda, Md.’s Round House Theatre helped to keep the healing energy flowing as Penn began a stretch of dates at the Rio with magician Michael Carbonaro filling in for Teller. Then Teller stopped tweeting in early December.

Rumors that Teller would begin performing with Penn & Carbonaro began to emerge. And, indeed, Teller began making small appearances each night in the current Penn & Carbonaro show to build up his stamina toward doing the full show once again.By this week, he plans to be fully up to speed.

Meanwhile, it’s probably best to continue respecting Teller’s wishes about not relentlessly contacting his personal friends about his condition. He’d rather people come to the Rio and see for themselves.

Feel the energy of New York City at Cirque’s newest production, Mad Apple

If you love live music, Cirque du Soleil, next-level dance choreography, outrageous comedy and the idea of combining acrobatics with basketball, then Mad Apple is the best new live production to catch in Las Vegas, providing you have no fear of a stand-up guy with no filter possibly sitting in your lap.

Comedian Harrison Greenbaum has a good eye for people who look like potential audience participants, so there’s no worries that he’ll bypass clear body language or expressions of terror if he steps ostage to find someone with whom he can get up close and personal. For the most

part, he transgresses boundaries with verbal barbs and risque roasting of guests in the front rows, wearing a suit like a classic comic from the Johnny Carson era of The Tonight Show

He’s thoroughly modern, though, and any targets of his humor find themselves laughing too hard to be o ended. Greenbaum’s sets combine with high-energy dance segments and musicians weaving through the venue to create cohesive threads that tie the acts together. Set in the winding alleys of New York-New York’s promenade district, Mad Apple is like no previous Cirque du Soleil production.

For one thing, it’s designed for mature audiences. Minors must be accompanied by an adult unless they are under 16, in which case they can’t attend. This leaves Greenbaum room to free associate without having to self-censor, and he takes full advantage.

For another, there’s no theme other than New York’s all-encompassing energy interpreted by a slamming five-piece band, five exuberant dancers and six singers, one of whom is music director Xharlie Black. Vocalists may break into song from anywhere in the venue at the conclusion of breathtaking acts that include hoop diving, hand balancing, aerial pole maneuvering and hair hanging.

That’s right, cast member Danila Bim spins at breakneck speeds while hanging from her hair. Sympathy for her scalp is quickly overcome by suspense as she becomes a blur of oscillation. The dancers become blurs of motion at times as well, exhibiting skills and stamina that bring the adjective “superhuman” to mind.

They dance like they have the most coveted gigs on the Strip, a notion flame-haired stepper Lizzie McConachie expresses in a meet-the-cast video. “When they first told me the concept of the show and what was in it, the music and the styles, it was just like my perfect dream show to watch,” she says. “I just so wanted to be in it, so it’s a no-brainer.”

It’s also a no-brainer for musicians who get to represent Manhattan with a passage from Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, and a chance for drummer Bruce Briggz to get wicked while getting out from behind his kit. Meanwhile, the Wheel of Death puts a new spin on a daredevil tradition, and the Acro-Dunkers do things with basketballs the Harlem Globetrotters never dreamed of. Arrive early to be part of Mad Apple’s pre-show bar scene; then settle in for an evening of entertainment with an urban edge.

GOLDEN NUGGET

Check out these hot spots to eat, drink and be merry

With more than seven decades of history in Las Vegas, the Golden Nugget still shines as one of the star properties along the famed Fremont Street Experience downtown. The huge property has everything a guest could want—restaurants, nightlife, gambling, entertainment and one of the coolest features in the whole city, its pool complex called The Tank, which features a 200,000-gallon shark

tank with various species of the predator. (You can even take a waterslide ride through the tank!)

One could never get bored, hungry or thirsty at the Golden Nugget with its vast array of options. But lucky for you, we’ve helped narrow down the choices. In this feature, we’ll shine the spotlight on three of our favorite spots to explore for food, drink and fun.

If a night out in Las Vegas means drinking and dancing, we suggest skipping the megaclubs and trying Troy Liquor Bar. This nightclub is way more intimate in size, but the fun you’ll have here is huge. With live DJs and VIP tables, Troy operates exactly like all the other nightclubs in Vegas, but there’s bonuses at this spot. One, you can gamble

Troy Liquor Bar

at table games on the balcony; and two, let’s talk about that balcony—spacious and overlooking the famed Fremont Street Experience! At Troy, one of the best bonuses is its bottle service: the prices here won’t break your bank. For only $299 you can get a bottle of Absolut Elyx vodka and one bottle of Moët & Chandon Imperial Brut champagne. In the world of Vegas nightlife, this is a deal that can’t be beat.

Stepping inside this hidden-gem steakhouse downtown instantly transports guests to a special evening. The décor and ambience is understated elegance mixed with a great balance of romantic vibes and social fun. Vic & Anthony’s also offers some of the best cuts of meat in the city. Here you can order three options that’ll melt in your mouth: the 8-ounce Snake River Farms rib cap, the A5 Kobe and the A5 Japanese wagyu filet mignon. The steakhouse also offers an impressive specialty cocktails list (drinks and the full menu can also be enjoyed at the bar and lounge area).

For a special experience, book one of the tables on the mezzanine level by calling 702.386.8288.

While Chart House (found in Golden Nugget’s newest tower, the Rush Tower) is a nice spot for dinner, we suggest this spot for some cocktails and light bites in the bar and lounge area. The draw here is a mesmerizing one—a 75,000-gallon aquarium with hundreds of fish swimming around. Plus, you can’t beat happy hour from 4-6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Enjoy $7 cocktails like the pomegranate martini and the mango mojito, $4 domestic beers and $5 import beers, $6 glasses of wine, and $7 premium spirits like Dewar’s Scotch and Bulleit bourbon. Nosh on yummy dishes from $5-$9 like seared ahi nachos, fried artichokes, firecracker shrimp and prime rib sliders.

HighRoller observati on wh eel

From retail to nightlife, Linq Promenade features a dynamic mix

From its initial debut on the Strip more than seven years ago, the Linq Promenade promised to become a different kind of versatile entertainment experience in Las Vegas. Now that it has evolved and made good on that promise several times over, the pedestrian thoroughfare between the Flamingo and Linq casino resorts has been acknowledged as one of the most energetic attractions anywhere in the city. The fun starts with two signature experiences: the iconic High Roller observation wheel (702.777.2782), offering half-hour rides 550 feet in the air and unparalleled views of the Vegas valley; and the adrenaline rush of the FLY LINQ Zipline (702.777.2782), launching riders from a 12-story tower soaring a distance of 1,121 feet to the east end of the promenade. These dual only-in-Vegas activities are among the most exciting ways to spend a day on the Strip, not to mention excellent methods for getting to know the offerings of the promenade itself.

After you’ve worked up an appetite, discover a full spectrum of dining experiences lying in wait. For fast, casual and absolutely delicious eats, sample the crispy fried delights at Gordon Ramsay

Fish & Chips (702.322.0529)—and don’t forget the curry mango dipping sauce—or all-American masterpieces with toppings like smoked bacon, mac and cheese and grilled mushrooms at Haute Doggery (702.430.4435). Sit down and share a pizza pie on the patio or just grab a quick slice from the window at Flour & Barley (702.430.4430), or satisfy your California drive-thru cravings at the legendary In-NOut Burger (800.786.1000). Keep the party going at one of several Linq Promenade bars offering outdoor service perfect for sipping while you stroll, including the colorful Breeze Daiquiri Bar (702.818.3007) or the alfresco addition

to O’Sheas (702.835.5723) inside the Linq Hotel, the Blarney Bar, where you can experience the frozen Irish Margarita.

One thing you may not expect: The promenade has become quite the go-to for sports viewing, so whether you’re into football, basketball or hockey these days, you can take your pick from the Tilted Kilt (702.826.2100), the lively beer bar AmeriCAN (702.331.5600), familiar crowd pleaser Yard House (702.597.0434), or some of the other unique restaurants that offer patio seating in addition to plenty of sports-suitable screens. Those include Chayo Mexican Kitchen (702.691.3773), the down-home and hearty Virgil’s Real Barbecue (702.389.7400) and the local product Off the Strip (702.331.6800).

Rounding out the Linq’s diverse selection are one of the newest locations of the super-cool Minus5 Icebar (702.586.8925), where glasses, walls, seats and sculptures are all carved out of ice; the new Razer store (725.214.7222), where one of the leading brands for gamers offers hardware, software and other services; and plenty of sweet stops like the candy shop I Love Sugar (702.330.9124) and the shortbread specialists at the Honolulu Cookie Company (702.489.6111).

It’s not easy to provide something for everyone, but the Linq Promenade has offered lots of fun for Vegas visitors from day one, and it’s only amped up over time.

Lake Life

For an only-in-Vegas living experience, it really doesn’t get better than Lake Las Vegas, where everything centers around a massive, 320-acre, man-made lake. Luxury communities abound throughout, as well as two championship golf courses, including the 72-par Reflection Bay Golf Club, a Jack Nicklaus Signa-

ture Design course. One of the most exclusive neighborhoods here is the guard-gated Vantage, which includes only 37 homes. And one has just become available there, designed by Blue Heron for the ultimate in modern luxury.

This two-story, 4,707-square-foot estate, listed by Daniel Mumm of

The Mumm Group of Huntington & Ellis, has all the space your family could need, featuring five bedrooms, six bathrooms and a three-car garage. The first thing you’ll notice as you approach the interior courtyard is the elongated stone pathway, lined by polished river rock and various cacti. At the entrance, you’ll defi-

nitely be impressed by the oversized atrium’s towering glass doors that offer access to three separate areas, including a grand foyer, formal dining room and main-level ensuite bedroom. As you proceed, it’s hard to ignore the floor-to-ceiling windows and sliding doors that flood the home with sunlight. The 20-foot ceilings, porcelain tile, Norman Solana shade treatments and centerpiece LED chandelier only add to the “wow!” factor.

A true highlight here is the gourmet kitchen, popping with white

rock stacked cabinets, a stainless-steel double oven and 30-inch microwave, a hidden trash system, dual waterfall quartz island and walk-in pantry.

The downstairs primary suite, tucked behind a wrought-iron staircase, has a spa-like bathroom with an extended built-in makeup table, dual shower head with one rainfall feature and roomy walkin closet. The three other ensuite bedrooms upstairs all include their own bathrooms, walk-in closets and plenty of room to stretch out.

There’s also a large loft space here, overlooking both the primary level and backyard.

And oh, the backyard! It’s meticulously landscaped and offers complete privacy with no rear neighbors or sightliness. With its extended covered patio, outdoor lounging area and separate turf grass and stone flooring space, it’s the ideal space to entertain company. –Ken Miller
