I Get the Front Car!

Years before I moved to Las Vegas, I saw an episode of the original Las Vegas-set CSI: Crime Scene Investigation in which William Petersen’s character, investigator Gil Grissom, blows o steam at the end of a hard day by riding a roller coaster—specifically, The Big Apple Coaster at New York-New York. I can’t explain exactly why, but from that point on I inextricably linked thrill rides and Las Vegas. In fact, the year I moved here, I rode nearly every single ride the town had to o er—and it was amazing!

This week’s issue of Las Vegas Magazine features a celebration of those rides and attractions that help to make our city the huge draw that it is, from the aforementioned roller coaster on the south side of the Strip all the way north to Circus Circus’ Adventuredome and the all-in-one entertainment destination that is AREA15 (“Let It Ride,” p. 34). Check it out, get your tickets and get ready to have an absolute blast.

But, of course, that’s only a small sliver of the entertainment pie Las Vegas o ers on a weekly basis. Let’s dive in:

From Music City to Sin City

Nashville import offers classic Southern eats, live music, great cocktails and much more

Its claim to fame was a prime location on Nashville’s famous Music Row—Dawg House Saloon & Sports Book has since closed its doors in the Music City, but luckily Las Vegas visitors can still experience the food, vibes and music at the Las Vegas version.

This iteration serves up country eats and good times beginning at 7 a.m. with standout dishes like biscuits and gravy, Nashville chicken and waffles, steak and eggs and a classic breakfast platter. Perfect after a night of drinking, order the breakfast sandwich called the Wake-n-Bake with fried farm eggs, cheddar cheese and smoked applewood bacon on a toasted brioche bun and pair it with the Hair of the Dawg, a triple shot of vodka, Bloody Mary mix and a meat and cheese skewer. Dinner and late-night menus include burgers, gourmet dogs, salads, wings and sandwiches. Some of the not-to-miss creations at Dawg House include cheese curds, The Twisted Krispie (the chef’s secret twist on the classic dessert), homemade chili, bacon candy and the smoked sausage platter with kielbasa, cheddarwurst, linguica and accompaniments like pickled hot peppers, cheddar and pepperjack cheeses, fried pickles and various dipping sauces. And don’t sleep on the food truck inside the restaurant, the Mouse House, serving up specialty grilled cheeses.

The full bar is set up with draft beers, seltzers and wines. Specialty cocktails keep guests happy with favorites that are familiar and simple-yet-delicious, like the Drunken Arnie with Deep Eddy Sweet Tea vodka and lemonade, and the Southern Belle Smash with Jack Daniels, peach nectar and citrus soda. On the weekends, get in the mood for live music, DJs and sports viewing parties. And making a bet is never far away, as Dawg House is situated adjacent to the property’s sportsbook. If you’ve got a group that wants to eat, drink and watch the game, this is the perfect spot, because you can reserve a couch or VIP table to keep the fun party going! –Kiko Miyasato Resorts World Las Vegas. 702.676.6964

Vintage Va-Va-Voom

Find showgirls and showboys galore in this stellar display

Burlesque icon Dita Von Teese recently resumed her dazzling residency at Voltaire inside The Venetian. The star chatted with Las Vegas Magazine ’s Em Jurbala about the show.

Voltaire, what a perfect room for you!

Right. It feels really nice. It’s so glamorous.

How do you use a space that has so much of its own personality to influence the show?

It’s definitely a big shift for me. Even though the runway was invented for burlesque in America in the 1930s, it still is (different from) most of the theaters that I do—these big historic theaters that hold like 3,000 people … It was a lot of me trying to figure out how to make it feel immersive and adapt the show to utilize the runway and the whole room … I’m not used to having theater in the round or being that close to people. There’s a lot of beads that go rolling off into the audience, which people can feel free to capture, but it’s definitely a different feeling, and I’m really getting into it.

I know you to be incredibly detailoriented; does that increase tenfold knowing you’re being viewed from all angles?

Actually, not at all, because I’m that

way no matter what. I’ve never ever in my entire career thought, “Oh, no one’s going to see that from back in the balcony.” I always think about the details because it’s not even whether someone sees it, it’s what does it for me … I love the details. I love diving deep and really digging into the history of whatever I’m doing.

It’s great to see the vintage headpieces you used in your recent run at Horseshoe Las Vegas are back. What’s new, and what’s sticking around?

A lot of people who’ve seen the show feel like it’s an entirely new show because it’s such a different backdrop. Of course there’s going to be some of my best-known numbers like my martini glasses. And, yes, thanks to Caesars Entertainment, we were able to bring over a curated selection of the Bob Mackie costumes from Jubilee!, which really means a lot to me because those costumes are really untouched since Jubilee! closed … There’s a lot of new things. I’ve added a lot of things and done some edits … There’s a big fetish number and I’ve completely changed that. It used to be an ensemble cast without me and now it’s one of my own numbers with an epic new set piece.

There were two burlesque stars

in your previous show’s cast. Are they in the current show? Are there more burlesque performers in this cast?

There’s three! Besides Dirty Martini, who is a global icon of burlesque and world champion tassel twirler, and Jett Adore, who’s been part of my tours for as long as I can remember, we’ve added Tosca Rivola, who is an amazing performer. She does the Cyr wheel. She’s very involved in the burlesque scene now, but I found her at this open casting and she did this incredible act and I was like, “Can you do it and add some strip tease?” So I’m pretty sure she’s the only woman to be performing strip tease while also revolving in a Cyr wheel.

Since you feature artists who have their own styles of burlesque, does the process of designing each show become collaborative, or do you know what you want and ask them to execute?

It’s a little bit of both. For instance, Dirty Martini; her number is a little bit different from what she did at (Horseshoe). She’s performing with one of my jeweled carousel horses, which is one of my oldest props from a long time ago. It’s really a spin—no pun intended—on the tassel twirling. It’s a collaboration … I think all of us burlesque performers have the formula of what our best number is, and so she adapted that to this set and this prop that I’m known for creating.

Timeless Sound

Expect all the unforgettable hits when this band hits the Strip

Styx has played so many shows in Las Vegas over the last decade, one would wonder why it doesn’t set up a permanent residency here. But it’s clear why the band doesn’t: Styx is simply so popular, its tunes so timeless, that it draws enormous crowds no matter where it performs around the globe. Truly one of the best classic rock acts around, Styx starts 2025 off in style with another sure-to-be-unforgettable Vegas show.

The band’s 1970s output ranks with the very best of bands of its era. Who can hear the following titles and not get

at least a hint of a goose bump: “Come Sail Away,” “The Best of Times,” “Too Much Time on My Hands” and, of course, the iconic “Babe.” It’s Styx’s inimitable feat of combining hard rock with power ballads and musical theater that keeps audiences coming back for more.

While Styx has undergone extensive lineup changes over the years, some original members remain, including guitarist/ vocalist James “J.Y.” Young and bassist/ vocalist Chuck Panozzo, and the inherent power with which they deliver their hits has only grown in intensity over the years.

This is no band looking into its autumn years; it’s still releasing new music and continues to tour tirelessly.

Expect to hear all the band’s most massive hits, as well as fan favorites like “Renegade,” “Blue Collar Man (Long Nights),” “Mr. Roboto,” “Lady,” “Show Me the Way,” “Lorelei,” “Why Me,” “Borrowed Time,” “Boat On the River” and so many more. –Ken Miller

Giddyup!

Canadian country superstar’s Strip residency is a culmination of her career up to this point

The impetus of Shania Twain’s latest Las Vegas residency is a life force she’s been feeling, which is not all that different than the energy that drove the landmark album it’s named after. Twain released Come On Over, her third collaboration with producer and then-husband Mutt Lange, in November 1997. It was a deliberate departure from her first two albums, which were aimed at country music audiences even if they drew on pop songwriting sensibilities and rock production methods.

This time, Twain drew on the spectrum of styles she absorbed while growing up as a performer, taking a chance she could expand her fandom without alienating core listeners, or further alienating the country music industry at large after her second studio album, The Woman in Me, enjoyed crossover success. Twain favored Dolly Parton, Tammy Wynette and George Jones as a performing preteen, and decided her music was going to be a hybrid of all her influences—R&B, rock, folk and country.

That hybrid came to full fruition with Come On Over. Hit singles including “You’re Still the One,” “Man! I Feel Like a Woman!” and the title track contributed to it becoming the biggest-selling album by a female solo artist of all time, according to Guinness World Records.

At 59, Twain has seen Taylor Swift follow in her footsteps and take crossing over from country to places previously uncharted. She released her latest album, Queen of Me, a harbinger of the self-celebration to come, in 2023. Twain feels free to walk around the house naked if she wants, to dye her hair pink or wear a blonde wig, or to show off the results of a diet and exercise regime for a Haute Living photo shoot. Her previous Vegas residencies were hardly no-frills affairs when it came to set design and wardrobe, but this time she wants to contemporize her show in terms of tech and taste. She wants fashion-forward designs that will dazzle even in comparison to the elaborate couture she donned for her previous residency, Let’s Go!

Whatever is driving her, Twain is filled with the spirit that inspired her ascension to stardom and the resilience that kept her there. –Matt Kelemen

Leaning All the Way In

Edgy comedian is ready to push some boundaries

Oh, that voice! It might be the most distinct in the history of stand-up comedy. And when you combine it with a fearlessness that has only grown stronger in 50-plus years and counting, you get one of entertainment’s most polarizing acts. Even Katt Williams himself often stops in the middle of one of his signature bits, imitating an audience member pleading, “Katt, please don’t get canceled!” But it seems safe to say that if ain’t happened yet, it ain’t happening at all, for Williams has been going there in ways his fans cannot get enough of for years; where most comedians lean away, he leans in so far he could be a dancer in the “Smooth Criminal” video.

Williams goes after everything, from Ozempic usage in Hollywood to gender roles in sports. And no public figure is safe from his crosshairs; past targets have included Cedric the Entertainer, Steve Harvey and many more. But, as Katt would put it, it’s all in the service of giving you information you weren’t privy to before. He’s the human equivalent of The National Enquirer : You’ll laugh at first, but you’ll be seriously thinking twice as to whether it’s true or false afterwards.

This week’s performance on the Strip is not for the faint of heart, but for those with open minds who seek other points of view, it is essential. –Ken Miller

Let Them Serenade You

This hit machine is ready to give the fans what they want

Few could have suspected at the time that the trio of Chuck Negron, Cory Wells and Danny Hutton would drop an atomic bomb on the music scene when they released their first album in 1968, but Three Dog Night would go on to release no fewer than 21 Billboard Top 40 hits over the next seven years. It’s a feat that puts the band among the pantheon of top hitmakers of its era, and the strength of its material lives on, both on the radio and in movie soundtracks.

It’s hard to think about The Big Chill without remembering arguably rock’s best first line in history from the band’s “Joy To the World”: “Jeremiah was a bullfrog …” Paul Thomas Anderson’s magnum opus Magnolia sets its tragic, ominous tone thanks to the Aimee Mann cover of the song Three Dog Night made famous, “One.” And with the big twist revealed in ’80s slasher flick April Fool’s Day comes the band’s immortal “Mama Told Me (Not to Come).”

Over the decades, the band has had arguably more lineup changes than any other with almost 30, but original member Hutton remains, and the current lineup sounds as strong as ever delivering absolute classics like “An Old Fashioned Love Song,” “Black and White” and “Shambala” for its devoted legion of fans. –Ken Miller

Stellar cocktails in a swank and welcoming space is what you’ll find at Sala 118 at The Venetian.

“Really if I ask, ‘What is Sala 118?’ It’s a place that feels like home. A beautiful, gorgeous home,” said Andrew Pollard, director of mixology for The Venetian. “The mood, the environment, it’s to provide a sense of comfort. The environment that we want to create is to amplify the DNA of this property and the character. It’s an elevated experience that is indicative of our DNA; that mid-century Italian setting in a modern Venetian landscape.”

The vibe and design have an understated elegance, with gorgeous flourishes throughout like the lighting, seating and bar area. The real star of Sala 118 is the cocktail menu, created over a two-month period by Pollard, a longtime and well-respected Las Vegas mixologist whose cocktail creations reside on menus up and down the Strip. His goal for Sala 118 was to take classic, familiar cocktails and present them in a unique and innovative way by using Italian ingredients. “I’ve always had a passion for Italian cocktails, and I’ve always looked for a home to have the opportunity to do this,” Pollard said. “I want our guests to explore, take a journey through Italy, and they’re guided through our menu and guided by our knowing bar staff as well.”

Tips/Insider Knowledge

The word “sala” in Italian means “room” or “Italian living room,” and the number 118 represents all the islands around Venice that are linked by bridges and canals.

A must-try is the limoncello, says Pollard. “Our limoncello is the greatest you’re ever gonna try,” he says. “It’s sourced from a small boutique vendor. It’s life-changing limoncello!” Look for the lion head with a spigot behind the bar. The secret: It dispenses a signature Negroni with signature vermouth and signature bitters.

Photos by Christopher DeVargas
Bitter Mary

“The harmony of the menu can speak to just about anyone.”

And no other cocktail is more indicative of the Italian culture than the Negroni. Sala 118 offers six different riffs off the classic recipe, using different spirits and ingredients that allow drinkers to experience the Negroni in a whole new way. “The Paradise Negroni, which is almost like if a piña colada and a Negroni made a baby, is a very fun, exciting and unique cocktail,” Pollard said. The recipe calls for Porter’s Tropical Old Tom gin, Heirloom pineapple amaro, Luxardo bitter bianco, coconut, Lustau Manzanilla Papirusa sherry and lime bitters.

Not often would one find the margarita on the menu of Italian bars, but sticking with the Sala 118 philosophy,

they’ve taken a classic that is familiar to everyone and given it a unique twist. And this writer has to say: Out of all the margaritas sampled across the city, this is one of the best versions I’ve ever tasted! The Sala 118 Margherita blends Gajàrdo Arancia Radicale liqueur, Alpe Genepy Herbetet, prickly pear, lime and fresh oregano, and the spirit is the property’s very own select barrel of tequila, The Venetian Select Paladar reposado tequila. “We designed (the tequila) inside and out,” Pollard said. “This is not like any margarita you’ve tasted, yet it’s familiar.”

Another exclusive spirit from The Venetian is its own barrel-aged Svöl Aquavit. “We have the only barrel in the

country that exists,” Pollard said. “The exclusive, three-year-aged, finished barrel of Swedish-style Aquavit has fresh dill, mint, and is bright, complex and fresh—it adds a lot of layer and dimension to the cocktail.” And the perfect cocktail to experience it in is Sala 118’s version of the Bloody Mary: the Bitter Mary. The Aquavit is mixed with St. George Green Chile vodka, Martini Riserva Speciale Bitter and a signature Bloody Mary mix. “This is unlike any Bloody Mary you’ve ever tasted,” Pollard said.

Besides the impressive specialty cocktails, Sala 118 offers a nice selection of Italian wines and Italian liqueurs and beers in addition to a large assortment of high-end tequilas. “It’s the environment, it’s the feel, it’s the look, it’s the tastes,” Pollard said. “And that authenticity all translates to the overall message of Sala 118 which is ‘it feels like home.’” –Kiko Miyasato

Crossroads Kitchen o ers an elevated, plant-based, fine-dining menu

You may have heard of “dry” January, but have you heard of “Veganuary?” Like World Vegan Month in November, Veganuary, based out of England and Wales, aims to encourage people to give vegan eating a chance by going plant-based for the month of January.

In Las Vegas, you’ll fi nd plenty of vegan restaurants to help fulfi ll that challenge, and one of the best is Crossroads Kitchen, where fi ne dining is the main goal, and all the dishes just happen to be vegan, despite name or flavor, whether that’s meat, seafood or cheese.

Yes, I know it is dry January, but if you enjoy a good cocktail, sip away. Crossroads Kitchen o ers a happy hour menu Monday through Thursday from 4-5:30 p.m., with beers and cocktails like the No Aloha, with toasted pineapple tequila, cinnamon syrup and aquafaba. Plus, several of the best appetizers are available, like the crispy artichoke hearts and pioppino mushrooms with celery hearts and caper aioli. Other truly excellent bites include the signature Impossible cigars with a spicy almond milk yogurt, and the calamari fritti. The “calamari” is actually mushroom rings, but have such a meaty flavor, you’d never think that was so.

Photos by Jakob N. Layman
Fondantparsnips

Once happy hour is over and you are seated, I recommend two other appetizers to start o dinner, stu ed zucchini blossoms with almond ricotta and marinara sauce, and Impossible meatballs with marinara and ricotta.

On the dinner menu, in addition to the mushroom fritti, there are several other good mushroom dishes, including tru e mushroom bianca, a white, fragrant pizza with an option to add earthy tru es. You can also get pepperoni and sausage pizzas. If you prefer a salad, the Carrie Underwood Reflection Pear Carpaccio presents it in a di erent way, with pears, Climax blue cheese, walnuts, endive and a wholegrain mustard vinaigrette. (Climax is a

California-based company with a range of plant-based cheeses.)

The pasta selections will appeal to many tastes, with dishes like spaghetti carbonara and malfadine cacio e pepe. (How fancy!) Other good options here are the fettuccine and tru es, with freshly shaved tru es; honeynut squash stu ed pappardelle with shaved tru es; roasted vegetable lasagna with grilled leeks, eggplant, roasted peppers and pesto ricotta in a puttanesca sauce; and fusilli pesto with vegan Parmesan.

The entrées are simply spectacular, with both looks and taste making meat unnecessary.

Roasted vegetable lasagna and interior courtesy photos, all other photos by Jakob N. Layman
Roasted vegetable lasagna

The lion’s mane steak is grilled and served with tru e potatoes—it has a very meaty taste, as do many mushrooms. For something that looks exactly like a steak, choose the eggplant fi let with mushroom bordelaise. It’s wild just how much this looks like a fi let, and the flavor is excellent. The heirloom butter beans don’t look like meat, but they are completely satisfying, with kale, oven-roasted potatoes and Parmesan. Add in sides like fondant parsnips and you may not need dessert. Joking! Of course you do. The brownie sundae comes with vanilla ice cream, fudge sauce, coconut whip and brandied cherries. By the time you fi nish this, you won’t care that you just fi nished a gourmet dinner that is entirely plant-based—you’ll just be happy and full.

There’s no end to the fun to be had in Las Vegas

Las Vegas is a destination that attracts people who like a good adrenaline rush. Whether drawn to table games, nightlife excursions, dining adventures or indulgent shopping sprees, there are more highs for a Vegas visitor to experience than time to enjoy them all. For connoisseurs of altitudinal adjustments, a Vegas visit is an opportunity to cross a few items o bucket lists.

The Big Apple Coaster at New York-New York is the thrill ride most associated with the skyline of the Strip. Traveling at speeds of up to nearly 70 mph, The Big Apple Coaster does not disappoint when it comes to traditional expectations of modern rail rides. It’s famous for its 180-degree “heartline” twist-anddive feature and 203-foot drop. It goes without saying that a Nathan’s hot dog or slice of pizza should follow a Big Apple Coaster ride rather than precede it. There are many views of the Strip from on high that are best experienced rather than described, but hurtling at top speed through New York-New York’s skyline keeps people coming back to the tune of nearly 1.5 million riders per year. And its accompanying arcade is a wonderland of some of your favorite midway-style games.

The highest of the Vegas challenges is the High Roller at The Linq Promenade, one of the world’s biggest observation wheels that’s

The Big Apple Coaster

become the No. 1 can’t-miss midStrip experience. Sturdy construction assures a safe 30-minute ride that reaches a height equivalent to nearly two football fields laid out vertically and reaching into the sky. The 360-degree view of the Las Vegas Valley is incomparable, whether rota-

tions are made nighttime or daytime. Less observational and more adrenalizing is the FLY LINQ Zipline, the Strip’s only zipline attraction and best option for getting groups of up to 10 careening at the same time. For visitors who don’t like their feet to be very far from the ground, The

Hardcore zipline fanatics are already cognizant of AREA15, where visitors zoom across the length of the venue’s nerve center The Spine on Haley’s Comet. It’s slightly less intimidating than ziplining from an altitude of hundreds of feet above The Strip, and provides a you-arethere introduction to the immersive

experiences inside the attraction, including Meow Wolf’s Omega Mart and an array of virtual reality options.

Lifto awaits outside of AREA15, providing a view of the Strip from the west side as it elevates small groups of strapped-in adventurers (and their drinks obtained at nearby Lifto Lounge) more than 100 feet into the sky. The 10-minute sojourn provides a good time to strategize an approach to iconic indoor theme park Adventuredome at Circus Circus.

Even if you and the family have been here multiple times, Adventuredome is constantly updating its exciting lineup. So in addition to classics like Canyon Blaster and El Loco (which must be experienced again and again before a truly informed opinion worthy of posting online can be developed), enjoy the all-new 6,000-square-foot SpongeBob’s Crazy Carnival Ride, as well as upgraded rides like the Twistin Tea Cups, go karts and kiddie swings. Meanwhile, NebulaZ and Sand Pirate can capture the attention of family members for whom roller coasters may be too intense. A rock climbing wall, 18-hole mini-golf course and arcade games can round out an Adventuredome visit.

And just across from Adventuredome is The Garage, which o ers the immersive “Birdly” virtual reality experience, neon mini bowling alleys and simulators that let you play golf, soccer, baseball, dodgeball and much more. And for those who like to test their accuracy, there’s also “Axe It Up,” where you throw axes in games like Tic-Tac-Toe, Bottle Crush and Duck Hunt.

Save for the holidays, The Killers really hasn’t taken a break since performing its final show of The Killers: Live in Las Vega s residency. The band ended its Sept. 1 set at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace with “When You Were Young” before resuming a tour through Mexico and Australia in support of greatesthits album Rebel Diamonds The upcoming dates at Caesars, the songs that would become the soundtrack to The Killers’ lives were first written and performed, at a property where the restaurant (Spago) Flowers once worked remained for many years. That was before the Colosseum existed, when a small-town boy from Nephi, Utah, and a lanky guitarist from Iowa looked at Las Vegas as more of a launching point for the world’s next greatest band rather than a permanent homebase. Two creative souls found each other, lyrics met chord progressions, a powerful drummer added propulsion that elevated the songs to transcendence, and nimble bass hooks made them unforgettable. That’s why it might be a smart move for the band to go into the studio while the mojo is working and the connection between music and audience is still fresh. Those songs from Hot Fuss the next course of the band’s history, or begin outlining new chapters in the members’ solo careers. What The Killers does next is a question that will be on the minds of the many Victims (band fans) making the pilgrimage to the Strip to commune with other faithful fans from around the world. Should its next move include staying together to record, the results would be a far cry from the angsty desperation of “Jenny Was a Friend of Mine,” “Mr. Brightside” and “Smile Like You Mean It.” The musicians, like their listeners, have grown since debuting on MTV with the video for “Somebody Told Me.” Heartland rock stylings began to intertwine with its established post-punk sound, creating nuanced foundations for frontman Brandon Flowers’ lyrical expression. So new music could head in any direction Flowers, guitarist Dave Keuning, drummer Ronnie Vannucci and bassist Mark Stoermer decide to steer it in. The majestic glam and grandeur Flowers so effortlessly conjured from his keyboards for Hot Fuss can still be evoked in new material without sounding calculatingly retro.

The Killers has its mojo working for the encore of ‘Live in Las Vegas’

will be played live again as long as touring is in The Killers’ future, but the magic of all four original members playing the album from beginning to end with audiences handling the choruses of “On Top” and “Change Your Mind” may never be conjured the same way again.

Regardless of whether it takes the inspiration from The Killers: Live in Las Vegas into the studio or quietly decides to split up for good, the band is providing fans with an incredible gift: The chance to see it in Las Vegas, where

which celebrate the release of Hot Fuss , help bring The Killers’ latest touring arc to a stop, although it has dates in California, Laughlin, Nev., and Tempe, Ariz., after that. They also will leave all four founding members of the band warmed up and ready to chart

“The plain white masks worn by the Jabbawockeez hold significant importance as they symbolize anonymity, unity, and artistic expression within the realm of hip-hop dance. These masks have become iconic in our performances, serving as a visual representation of our collective identity and unique style. Through our skilled choreography and captivating routines, we have elevated the plain white mask to a symbol of artistry and creativity in the world of dance entertainment.” –Joe Larot, Jabbawockeez co-founder and co-chief executive officer

Dance crew and Strip headliners Jabbawockeez spread their talent across Las Vegas and the world

They became the first dance crew to have a headlining show on the Strip. (Check out the most recent version of their production, Timeless, at MGM Grand.) They helped set the standard for the art form with their inimitable creativity. (Check out their otherworldly moves and distinct costuming.) They were

essential in bringing street dance and breaking to such a high level of prominence that it’s now an Olympic sport. (Did you check out the breaking competition during the 2024 Paris Olympics, where a new generation of dancers represented the U.S.?) The Jabbawockeez have broken through barriers in more ways than one and

have stepped into a realm of their own while staying true to their roots. And check this out: In this issue, Las Vegas Magazine celebrates the icons by “transporting” them to locales far and wide. We also checked in with two founding members of the groundbreaking crew and asked them some burning questions.

“From 2000 to about 2002, we were a group of friends that found each other through a love for hip-hop and dance. Having been from different crews, we all brought something different to the collective. We are a product of dance culture; we mixed the styles we grew up learning and formed some type of hybrid that became unique to us. Our motivations at the time were about showmanship; we were able to hone this skill by creating shows for local dance competitions or state fair events. We sensed that there was a lane for us to innovate the dance scene, it just required that we ‘think outside of the box,’ and hence myself and Joe developed the idea that would become Jabbawockeez.” – Kevin “KB” Brewer, Jabbawockeez co-founder and co-chief executive officer

“Ah, the special sauce that launched the Jabbawockeez into stardom is a tantalizing blend of innovation, precision, and a dash of magical charisma. Our choreography is like a gourmet dish of dance moves, carefully crafted with intricate footwork, synchronized movements and a sprinkle of theatrical flair that leaves audiences craving more. … In essence, our special sauce lies in our recipe for constant evolution and never-ending creativity that keeps our performances spicy and unforgettable.” –Joe Larot

The Neon Museum, Las Vegas

“… The Jabbawockeez’s trending popularity landed us an opportunity to perform in a ballroom for a private group of MGM executives. Recognizing the potential of the Jabbawockeez, MGM offered a trial run of a full production show for a limited time in the David Copperfield Theater. The Jabbawockeez show was such a hit that our now-longtime partners at MGM requested that we add more shows and dates. After the extended trial run, it was very clear that we had what it took to captivate an audience in Las Vegas.” –Kevin “KB” Brewer

Shot on location at Fremont Street Experience

“… When choreographing the show, we aimed to elicit a range of emotions from the audience. We wanted them to experience a journey of nostalgia, love, passion, resilience and, ultimately, hope. Through carefully crafted movements and music selection, we created a seamless flow of storytelling that captured the essence of human emotions and connected with the audience on a profound level. Our vision was to create an immersive experience where the audience could feel the emotions portrayed through dance, allowing them to be transported into a world where music and movement speak louder than words.” –Joe Larot

Explore these hot spots to eat, drink and be merry

Compared to a lot of the hotels on the Strip, Park MGM is on the smaller side, but its curated collection of experiences makes it a huge draw. The property, which is completely nonsmoking, offers high-end, beautiful restaurants; casual dining spots from funky to whimsical; several nightlife options; one of the best live concert venues around; and a fabulous location. And it’s right next to T-Mobile Arena and the outdoor dining

and nightlife promenade, The Park. So how to narrow down all the options?

We’ve picked three favorite spots to eat, drink and be merry.

If anything, On the Record is just a visually stunning place to make one merry. With multiple rooms, each with its own vibe and décor, this nightclub is one of the only spots

on the Strip to enjoy a mix of hip-hop, pop and R&B all night long. Chill for a bit on the patio where an actual 1963 British double-decker bus doubles as a DJ booth and bar. Or check out the living room space with a cozy fireplace and comfy sofas. There are hidden karaoke rooms and an even more hidden speakeasy (look for the walls lined with cassette tapes) that offers guests an impressive specialty cocktail program. Another insider’s tip: Stop by the club in the afternoon and look for a host at the front booth who can help put you on a guest list for free entry (or possibly hand you some free passes) and tell you about that night’s specials.

Tequila and mezcal drinkers, listen up! Mama Rabbit Mezcal + Tequila Bar stores one of the largest collections on the Las Vegas

Strip. This colorfully saturated space is the perfect bar to enjoy creative cocktails using popular, hard-to-find and rare brands of the agave-based spirit. And recently, Mama Rabbit has guests hopping to the beats with the introduction of Latin Night Thursdays. Beginning at 10 p.m., enjoy $10 margaritas, buy-one-get-one Cantaritos Hard Sodas, margarita pitchers, $19 specialty cocktails and $25 beer-and-a-shot specials featuring selections like Estrella Jalisco beer and Tesoro Azul blanco tequila. Get your bachata, samba and cha-cha on when local Latin bands add spice to the night.

One must explore Eataly Las Vegas at least once during their time on the Strip. The massive hall houses all things Italian culture when it comes to food and drink—everything from fresh-baked desserts, breads and pastas to cheese, spirits, meats and seafood. A retail

section offers tons of Italian wines, grab-and-go eats and an assortment of sweets. Guests have arrived just in time to experience Eataly’s recent expansion—its first since opening its door six years ago.

New to the list of wonderful offerings is Eataly Bar, an indoor-outdoor space reminiscent of an Italian piazza with views of the bustling Las Vegas Strip. Highlights of the new bar include 11 variations of the Italian spritz and a special bruschetta menu with various Italian toppings. If you want more of a nosh, right next to the bar is the new Pizza al Padellino serving up a unique type of pizza born out of Turin, Italy. The made-to-order pizza shop bakes the doughy goodness in small, round pans, crisping up the outside and giving the inside of the pizza a soft, pillowy texture.
