When you think sports in Las Vegas these days, your mind immediately goes to teams like the NFL’s Raiders, the NHL’s Golden Knights or the WNBA’s Aces. But our city is opening its doors to so much more this week; fans of extreme racing and tennis will be thrilled to know there are events catering to both sports on the Strip this week, and you can read more in this issue of Las Vegas Magazine! Two of tennis’ biggest stars, Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz, will square off against one another in the inaugural Netflix Slam at Michelob Ultra Arena at Mandalay Bay. It’s an exhibition match you really don’t want to miss (“Tennis, Everyone!” p. 32). Auto racing’s newest sport is also one of its most exciting: Nitrocross, co-created by racing legend Travis Pastrana. And this week at Planet Hollywood, a dome-covered track has been created for the latest event, which will also include concerts and other special events (“When Cars Fly,” p. 36). Adding to this week’s excitement are two concerts. Rock band Extreme, which gained enormous fame on the back of songs like “More Than Words,” will perform at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas. Las Vegas Magazine’s Em Jurbala interviewed band member Nuno Bettencourt, whose guitar work on latest album, Six, has the whole music world buzzing (“Oh, That Solo ...” p. 34). And Christina Aguilera brings her classics to Voltaire Belle de Nuit at The Venetian as part of a new residency (“What Everybody Wants,” p. 12). Don’t forget to schedule a great meal, from new Mediterranean restaurant Orla at Mandalay Bay (“Inspired Indulgence,” p. 28) to FUHU at Resorts World Las Vegas (“So Many Flavors,” p. 14). There’s just no end to the fun in Vegas! We hope we help you maximize yours.

What Everybody Wants
Get cozy with pop icon at new residency How could you not love at least one thing Christina Aguilera has put out? She’s been on screens since her childhood role on The All-New Mickey Mouse Club, rose to superstardom after the release of her self-titled debut album and hasn’t slowed down since. You’ve had the chance to love her on the big screen with her starring role in the 2010 film Burlesque and on the small screen with her weekly appearances as a coach on six seasons of NBC’s The Voice. So it’s safe to say that Xtina can be regarded as no less than pop-culture royalty. And as the benevolent queen she is, Aguilera once again gifts her fans with an intimate residency at Voltaire Belle De Nuit, which picks up this week with shows on March 1-2. This is not Aguilera’s first dip into the Vegas residency pond, though; she launched The Xperience at Planet Hollywood’s then Zappos Theater (now Bakkt Theater) in May 2019. But with her previous venue having a 7,000-person capacity, this show, in a 1,000-seat setting, offers an entirely new experience. You’ll hear many of the pop icon’s hits like “Dirrty” and “Genie in a Bottle,” as well as some of her well-known ballads like “Beautiful” and even a sultry cover of Lesley Gore’s “You Don’t Own Me.” Almost as stunning as Aguilera’s vocals and personality, the wardrobe for this show is chic, dynamic and fashionable. From sexy body suits to flowing gowns and capes, you’ll be delighted by each quick change. And it’s a perfect venue to display them in, as Voltaire’s main stage features a long central runway surrounded by swiveling seats, ensuring audience members won’t strain necks and won’t miss a second of the performance. That intimate setting, coupled with caviar service and handcrafted cocktails, means a ticket to this show guarantees a luxurious experience with your favorite songstress. –Em Jurbala The Venetian. ticketmaster.com

So Many Flavors Pan-Asian dishes create magic for guests There’s no end to the surprises that await you at FUHU at Resorts World Las Vegas. While it specializes in contemporary Asian cuisine, there is literally something here for everyone—and that includes vegetarians and vegans! Head into the Pan-Asian restaurant for Saturday brunch from noon-3 p.m. and score dishes like ube pancakes, pictured, a snow crab omelet, Hainese chicken rice and the FUHU prime short rib Benedict, benefiting from a red vinegar hollandaise sauce. The beef tenderloin sando is built on soft Japanese milk bread with katsu sauce, with fingerling potato chips. There are also dim sum selections. And champagne! What would brunch be without champagne? For dinner, enjoy specialty cocktails like the Fallen Embers, a smoked Old-Fashioned with Hinotori’s 5-year whiskey, Amaro Montenegro and sweet vermouth. Labor-intensive items like the signature FUHU Aromatic Crispy Duck make flavorful appearances. How labor intensive? FUHU executive chef Justin Kalaluhi said in a Las Vegas Magazine interview, “…it’s a three-day process. We

basically fabricate the duck, and we salt it for a whole day. And then we rinse it and we put a dry-wet rub on there and it sits on there for 24 hours as well. Then we braise it for two hours and then cool down, and then the next process it’ll be picked up (then finished) in the fire.” Other amazing dishes that grace dinner service include such items as FUHU sticky lamb chops, vegan “butter chicken,” king crab tempura, specialty sashimi and rolls, fish curry with yellowtail, kimchi fried rice, duck fried rice, and spicy duck noodles. And the desserts are something you won’t find at an average place—indulge in banana cake with caramelized bananas, rum caramel sauce, toasted walnut and crème fraîche ice cream, or pandan gateau, a cake with coconut crema, roasted rum compote and raspberry sauce. For real decadence, the list of spirits features several that call out, like Moutai baijiu, Hibiki Harmony whiskey and Nikka Coffey Grain whiskey, as well as other items from across the globe. –Nina King

Got Nerve?
Try these death-defying rides that sit high above the Strip
At the top of the iconic STRAT are three thrill rides that will leave you feeling brave and bemused, dazed and confused, all at the same time. The story of those amusement rides begins with the gala opening of The STRAT casino in 1996, where two rides were introduced: The Big Shot and the Let It Ride High Roller coaster. The drop tower ride Big Shot, looking like the biggest ring-the-bell game you’ve ever seen,
propels its riders straight up at approximately 45 mph from 921 feet to 1,081 feet. No, you can’t wear your flip-flops. Although the coaster closed in 2005, two other heart-pounding rides opened. The X-Scream actually emulates a roller coaster itself, as a car rolls back and forth on a piece on track. And then, of course, it’s time to get tipped over the edge—and if that doesn’t freak you out, we don’t know what will. Wait, we do know what
will: The huge arcing arms of the inverted centrifuge ride Insanity, which hangs you 64 feet over the edge of the tower while rapidly spinning (3 Gs). And it’s not even level—you will be spinning at an angle. Bonus points: Jump off the tower. Yes, you can, on SkyJump, a controlled plummet 855 feet down. Chicken out? You? No way. –Nina King The STRAT. 702.380.7777

Italian Indulgence
Bold flavors, fresh ingredients and your favorite coastal classics make this spot one that can’t be skipped Do this first when you are seated at Osteria Costa: Inquire of your friendly server whether the budino is available that night for dessert. They are likely to say yes, and when they do, order it then. Sure, it may arrive at the end of the meal, but you will ensure that you don’t forget it later. Try the peas and burrata to start, a delicately flavored purée with soft burrata and arugula dressed in a lemon vinaigrette. Traditional caprese with heirloom tomatoes, beef carpaccio with truffle pecorino and a tender meatball with whipped ricotta and basil will whet the appetite. The pizza here is perfectly shareable and makes a good prelude to the remainder of the meal. Munch on spicy salami, margherita, prosciutto and the seasonal mushroom with two types of mushrooms, asparagus and lemon. And please do shave Parmesan all over the top! It may be hard to make a pasta choice, but you can’t go wrong with the alla vodka, lightly sauced lumache with a touch of Calabrian chili adding a little kick. Rigatoni pomodoro has a chunky roasted eggplant and tomato sauce with basil and ricotta.
18 | 2.25.24 Las Vegas Magazine
Entrées include many classic dishes done exceptionally well. Standouts include the signature chicken Parm, a massive, breaded chicken breast covered in pomodoro, mozzarella and basil; salmon piccata accented with lemon and capers; and grilled ribeye, an 18-ounce cut that comes with salsa verde, a delightful condiment with a complex mix of ingredients. If you really love fish, the grilled branzino is sure to capture your attention, and until it’s gone, you won’t care about much else. Finished with that branzino? Then take a break while dessert is prepared—an espresso or a housemade limoncello is a good move. As well as a classic limoncello, you’ll find such varieties as berrycello, depending on the season. And we’re sure you ordered the hazelnut budino, although it may be plated as part of an assortment, with two other choices like the tiramisu and the Italian pound cake. The budino is incredible. Bittersweet chocolate pudding is topped with chopped hazelnut, adding crunch and flavor. Absolutely fabulous! –Nina King

Your favorite reality competition acts come to entertain on the Strip One thing is guaranteed at America’s Got Talent Presents SUPERSTARS Live: You’ll see at least one of your favorite acts from the hit NBC reality competition over the years, from musical acts and acrobats to danger specialists and hilarious comedians. Some of the longer-running acts remain, like: season 17’s Pack Drumline, pictured, a Chicago-based troupe that combines drumming expertise with impeccably choreographed dance moves; Human Fountains, a season 13 comedy

act that has to be seen to be believed (you better hope they don’t ask you onstage!); and Kodi Lee, the winner of season 14 with his amazing voice and piano stylings. But get ready for some new, exciting additions in 2024! Aaron Crow, who made it all the way to the semifinals in season 13, commands your attention without saying a single word; his skills as a mentalist and risk-taker more than speak for themselves. Herwan Legaillard, another semifinalist who wowed the judges—and
America—in season 18, combines aerial skills and danger for a seriously sexy act. And Pandersonium, a puppet act, brilliantly replicates the AGT judges in a comedy and music act that features arguably the best Simon Cowell impersonation you’re ever likely to hear. Red Kitchen, Blue Kitchen Step into your favorite reality cooking competition show at this enormously popular restaurant
Gordon Ramsay Hell’s Kitchen just has it all: the perfect location in the Roman Plaza, where you can also find the successful Spiegelworld show Absinthe right next door; a great look, including the now-iconic red and blue kitchens to mirror those used on the show; and a menu reflecting all the famous dishes Ramsay is so particular about. You’ll want to start your experience here with a cocktail, and Hell’s Kitchen offers some great options, particularly Notes From Gordon—each one, made with Plymouth dry gin, green tea, lemongrass, peach and lemon, comes with its own rolled-up piece of paper containing a famous phrase from Gordon on the show, such as “This lamb is so undercooked, it’s following Mary to school!” There’s also the Smoke on the Blvd., Woodford rye, aperol, amaro averna and sweet vermouth, infused with cherry wood smoke inside a small box. Odds are most first-timers to this establishment will want to try the beef Wellington. And who could blame them? It’s the very essence of both Ramsay and his home country, a large, medium-rare cut of delectable beef surrounded by a puff pastry shell and served with potato purée, glazed root vegetables and a red wine demi-glace. More in the mood for fowl? No problem—the Jidori chicken scallopini more than satisfies, served with roasted pee wee potatoes, artichokes, lacinato kale and truffle chicken jus. –Ken Miller

Built for Fun
Make plans to drink at one of downtown’s coolest bars The Carousel Bar at Plaza is not just a spot for some great drinks—it’s a fun destination to gather with friends, enjoy some of the best people watching, soak in some history and take those awesome, only-in-Vegas snapshots. “The bar is a true destination,” said Courtney Allen, director of food and beverage at Plaza. The outdoor Carousel Bar sits right along Main Street, downtown, across from the famed Fremont Street Experience and right in front of the property’s front doors where the porte-cochere used to be. The design is based off the original Carousel Bar in New Orleans, and while this one doesn’t slowly move in a circle, the horses do move up and down the poles—just like on a real carousel! Roomy booths and bar seating is open for everyone 21 and over. Settle in for some “very fun, vibrant, Instagrammable cocktails,” said Allen. Start with a refreshing sip and Carousel’s spin on a tiki cocktail, the Soggy & Sandy, a mix of Jameson Orange, crème de banana, coconut cream, pineapple, orange, lime and mint. The cocktail comes in several versions of a tiki mug, and each one can be purchased for an extra cost.

Irish coffee, Mexican coffee, apple cider and hot toddy. On the menu since Carousel Bar opened last year is the popular Money in the Bank, made with Patron tequila, Aperol, pineapple, lime and Mike’s Hot Honey syrup for a bit of a bite with each sip. A star specialty cocktail, perfect for posing with for pics, is the Carousel Grand Pineapple, served in a carvedout pineapple and made with Captain Morgan spiced rum, Grand Marnier and pina colada mix.

In addition to the specialty cocktails, Allen said, “Our beer menu is locally driven; all of our canned beers are from local breweries, and we’re proud of that.” Guests can try Vegas breweries like 7Five Brewing, Bad Beat and Able Baker. “We also have a good selection of shareable cocktails for larger groups
of people, they serve about four,” she said. A great shareable option is the Take Flight, a Patron margarita flight with four flavors including traditional, mango, strawberry and passion fruit. Don’t miss the front of Carousel Bar; facing Fremont Street Experience is the bar’s specially made neon sign—a 14-foot showgirl fans of the Plaza have named Ginger, after the character in the movie Casino. “Ginger welcomes you with open arms to the Carousel Bar,” Allen said. –Kiko Miyasato

She’s licensed in cosmetology, advanced aesthetics, massage therapy, yoga and sound healing. “I really do love learning and pursuing things that I’m passionate about and sharing those things that I’m passionate about and infusing those things into the everyday,” Torres, a California native, said. The everyday is her role at Golden Nugget, where she recently re-created the menu of services, manages the day-to-

day operations, research new treatments and product lines and supports her staff. “I love how intimate this spa is,” she said, joining the spa in 2015. “We also have a very passionate team.” Before Golden Nugget, she had a long history of working in spas and salons, starting as a receptionist and working her way up while getting certified. When she switched over to management, all her past experience made her a better director, she said. “It all allowed me to better understand the operations of a spa.”
Torres is proud of the spa treatments that the Golden Nugget offers, as she thoughtfully created a menu of healing and renewal for guests. “Besides our full-service salon, we offer traditional massages with holistic and wellness body treatments; even our mani-pedis have a healing approach,” she said. “I think we’re a beacon for spas in Las Vegas. Orla is a celebration of its chef’s heritage and culture By Ken Miller Chef Michael Mina has been a huge figure in the history of Las Vegas Strip dining in the past 20 years, helping refine the seafood experience (his
28 | 2.25.24 Las Vegas Magazine
self-titled restaurant at Bellagio), the steakhouse experience (StripSteak at Mandalay Bay), and world cuisine (International Smoke at MGM Grand). But through all this success, Mina had yet to really establish a restaurant that reflected his upbringing, his major influences. Well, he can cross that off the list as well, as Orla is a direct reflection of his Middle Eastern roots.
“Orla is a culmination of my culinary evolution, a fusion of personal recipes that echo the flavors and aromas of my childhood in Egypt,” Mina said in a press release. “It encapsulates the warmth, charm and vibrant hospitality of Mediterranean culture that has shaped my life and career. I can’t wait for guests to experience a taste of what has influenced my life’s work.”

Sizzling king crab
The dining room of his restaurant evokes a garden, with a greenhouse-styled overhang and plenty of green plants populating the space filled with a mix of white marble and dark wooden tables. There’s also a bar where patrons can enjoy a drink before being seated, and this is a great place to try some of Orla’s fun, creative offerings. The Gardens of Seltoz is a delightful blend of Hendrick’s gin, Italicus Rosolio di Bergamotto, lemon, kiwi, mint and almond, while the Niro’s Ghost will thrill tequila lovers with its blend of Tres Agave reposado, ruby port, lime, pineapple and pomegranate. Bourbon fans need to try the Orla Single Barrel Old-Fashioned, made with
a Russell’s Reserve batch made for Michael Mina only, fig leaf-infused spiced demerara and Angostura bitters. Meats get a chance to shine here, especially in the kebab platter for two, featuring filet mignon, kofta and chicken dolmas, served with tanger-
ine lebneh and smoked eggplant dip. But seafood really get main billing. Start your experience with delights like: charcoal grilled octopus, here accented with ful medames (a stew of cooked fava beans and other spices), cardamom schug and a poached egg; urfa dusted big eye tuna, served on a perfectly cooked, crispy falafel with whipped tahini; and chilled lobster salad, colorful and delicious with blistered peppers, mango and Haas avocado. Fans of Mediterranean classics like hummus are in for a treat: Orla offers a version where you can add foie gras, which originated in Egypt. The mains here are meant to be enjoyed by the whole table, from saltbaked sea bream, sliced at the table and served with zucchini and oregano vinaigrette; spice-marinated red snapper, smothered in slow-cooked fennel, Kalamata olives and Yukon potatoes; and sizzling king crab, flavored with Fresno chilis, spring onion and orange-Aleppo oil. The spice-roasted Rohan duck is a revelation, served with smoked beet cream, freekeh and sour cherries, while the slowly braised lamb shank is Instagram-worthy, not to mention a flavor explosion thanks to the addition of chickpeas, celery root and Mina spice. Don’t forget amazing sides like macaroni bechamel, cooked into small patty-sized pieces and served with mushroom duxelles, Parmigiano-Reggiano and black truffle.

etflix’s push into sports streaming is paying off for tennis fans unable to jet to Spain in recent years to follow the friendly rivalry between Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal at the Madrid Open. Netflix Slam features youthful upstart Alcaraz facing off against veteran champion and fellow countryman Nadal in an exhibition match halfway around the world from their native Spain that could symbolize a changing of the guard. Netflix Slam arrives after two seasons of Netflix’s reality show Break Point, and may determine the course of racket sports in its programming. If the exhibition match is a hit, future Slams could pit Novak Djokovic against Alexander Zverev, Jannik Sinner versus Break Point focus Nick Kyrgios or Iga Świątek against Jessica Pegula. It’s a safe bet to presume Netflix has innovations in store in terms of production and presentations.
The streaming service couldn’t have picked a better pair to launch the invitational with. Nadal, seeded No. 1 for Madrid in 2021, defeated Alcaraz on the clay court in the Madrid Open that year before being stopped in the quarterfinals. Alcaraz dazzled spectators with his win over Nadal in the 2022 quarterfinals, then became the youngest player ever to take the Madrid Open men’s single tennis title since Nadal in 2005. He’d take the 2023 title as well, while Nadal had to withdraw before the tournament due to a hip injury. Nadal, with more than 1,000 career wins, was ranked No. 1 five times from 2008 to 2019. ranked No. 2. Nadal is a 22-time Grand Slam men’s singles title champion. Alcaraz has two. Nadal was named Newcomer of the Year at the ATP Awards in 2003, Alcaraz in 2020. The hip injury affected Nadal’s performance, and he dropped precipitously in the rankings last year. The Netflix Slam could be a comeback for him and a prelude to a final year as a pro. He’s signed on to October’s 6 Kings Slam in Saudi Arabia, as has Alvarez. As of now, between the Madrid Open and a 2022 match at Indian Wells, Nadal leads 2-1. Alcaraz could tie things up at the Slam. Alcaraz, charismatic, photogenic and comfortable as a brand ambassador for Louis Vuitton, will be one of the dominant forces in the sport for the next decade. His rivalry with Sinner has been compared to Nadal’s with Roger Federer, and currently stands at 4-3 in Sinner’s favor. Both Nadal and Alcaraz are products of Spain’s “pipeline of players,” as NPR has dubbed them, who grew up on the thousands of clay courts built in the 1970s. Alcaraz is a blur on clay with a wicked two-handed backhand and an uncanny ability to flick the ball right where his opponents can’t reach. Nadal counters with two decades of court experience. There may not be a physical passing of the torch, but there promises to be fiery playing at Netflix Slam.

Extreme, fresh off a 2023 hit release, is ready to rock Las Vegas By Em Jurbala Extreme, the Massachusetts rock band known for its hard rock stylings and powerful influence on the music industry, hits the stage in Las Vegas this week in a bit of a full circle moment; it’s during a high time, especially for guitarist Nuno Bettencourt (pictured above, far right). The band, consisting of Bettencourt alongside
34 | 2.25.24 Las Vegas Magazine
Gary Cherone, Pat Badger and Kevin Figueiredo, put out its first album in 15 years with the 2023 release of Six. And the album’s opening single, “Rise,” made waves with a guitar solo that’s been named the solo of the year by numerous publications, some even going as far to call it the solo of the century.
“It was crazy because ... you put all you got into it; you go for blood, you do all the things that you know how to do that you’ve been doing for as long as you can remember. But then, all of a sudden you get that kind of response where your phone starts blowing up from friends and family and heroes of yours,” Bettencourt, who was also named guitarist of the year by Total Guitar, said in an exclusive interview with Las Vegas Magazine. “You think, ‘OK, what is going on? What is really happening?”

With much momentum coming into the new year, it’s no wonder the quartet is nowhere near slowing down. The group’s Vegas stop brings it back to a familiar setting, as it’s not only played in the same space while it was Hard Rock Hotel Casino’s The Joint (now The Theater at Virgin), but the band actually filmed its 2015 performances there for a concert film to commemorate the 25th anniversary of its iconic Pornograffitti album. “Vegas has always been an interesting place, you know. When
you don’t live there, you don’t think anybody lives there. You think it’s just a place that people go. And it’s one of those things where it’s not until we play … where (we remember) it’s always some of the best audiences,” Bettencourt said. And those incredible fans will be delighted to know that not only will the band be playing many of its wellloved hits, but it will also bring nearly half of its newest album to life. And yes, you will most definitely hear the guitar solo of the year played live by
the iconic guitarist himself. “It’s better live! ... At least I do (play) it,” Bettencourt said. “When I first started doing it … everybody wanted to see if I can actually do it. It’s a lot of pressure.” And this star, along with his fellow bandmates, certainly does perform under pressure. The group’s high-energy rock bangers, juxtaposed with acoustic ballads, promises a dynamic show, chock-full of impressive fret work, soulful singing and pounding percussion.

Gravity-defying Nitrocross is ramped-up rallycross racing for drivers by drivers
TRAVIS PASTRANA was almost unable to compete in the debut of Nitrocross in Las Vegas. The extreme-racing legend designed the tracks, standardized the vehicles and drafted the drivers of auto racing’s newest—and most disruptive— sport, Nitrocross. Knee-replacement surgery that kept him from driving in February’s Calgary, Alberta event won’t prevent him from participating in the final

rounds of the 2023-24 season at Planet Hollywood’s newly built Nitrodome. Unlike Formula 1’s takeover of the streets of Las Vegas, Nitrocross needs dedicated tracks for the high-flying action and super-speed velocity required. A combination of motocross and rally racing, Nitrocross races happen on dirt, ice or tarmac, depending on the location. It’s a race for drivers by drivers, with long ramp jumps, drifts and banked turns that depend more on navigation skill and reflexes than expensive, souped-up vehicles.
Bottom right photo by Nate Christenson all others by QNIGAN
Nitrocross is more than a race attracting the most sensation-seeking drivers alive. It’s conceived as a festival experience with a relatively short race length featuring custom-designed FC1-X electric cars. Concerts, marathon post-race autograph sessions and special events such as the Baja Bug race that debuted in Calgary will be part of the experience a stone’s throw away from The Strip at Nitrodome. Rising stars of the Group E class include current season leader Robin Larsson, No. 2 Kevin Eriksson, Fraser McConnell, Andreas Bakkerud and Lia Block. Pastrana will enter the race at No. 7. Having the Nitrocross season end in Las Vegas is the latest career landmark for him in the city where in 2018 he repeated three of Evel Knievel’s most famous motorcycle stunts, including a jump over the fountains in front of Caesars Palace. That same year Nitro Rallycross, which would be rebranded as Nitrocross, was founded. Pastrana had a vision for purpose-built, 1,000-plus horsepower cars on tracks custom-designed for each race location and climate. Backed by investors with deep pockets, Pastrana built a prototype track in Salt Lake City that he
tested out himself and impressed pro rallycross drivers with. High-profile partners such as Ultimate Fighting Championship CEO Dana White generated confidence in the success of the enterprise among observers and Pastrana himself. The FC1-X vehicle can go from zero to 60 mph in little more than a second. They withstand the impacts of ramp jumps that attracted none other than NASCAR driver Kyle Busch, who made his Nitro debut in 2021. Group E is supplemented by the NEXT developmental class, where young drivers take their inaugural laps as professional competitors. The response to Nitrocross has been phenomenal so far. Crowds are loud and enthusiastic. The VIP section at Nitrodome is the biggest of the season, and sightlines have been designed for spectators to see every inch of the tracks during races. Fans will also have chances to get upclose-and-personal with drivers as well as their cars. And Pastrana will be getting around as best he can with his new knee. He may not be able to walk that well, but there will be no separation between himself and his wheels once he’s on the starting line at Nitrocross.

The dancers of Fantasy: The Strip’s Sexiest Tease help give the show its legs By Em Jurbala Whether you’re in town for the first time or the 101st time, you’ve definitely seen the Fantasy: The Strip’s Sexiest Tease performers. From billboards to online content, the beautiful and talented ladies in this long-running adult romp are basically omnipresent in this city, and as they celebrate their 24th year in business, it’s clear why. From the moment you walk into the Atrium Showroom, you know you’re in for a great evening. Party lighting and catchy tunes fill the theater while everyone shuffles to their seats. But wait, we’re getting ahead of ourselves. There’s something special for you even before the doors open. If you’re looking to have a more immersive, in-depth experience, you can book the VIP option, which begins about an hour before showtime and introduces you to the behind-the-scenes world of the show. You’ll meet some of the dancers, learn about each performer’s background, and see backstage. To top it off, you’ll receive a VIP swag bag filled with mementos of your evening. Once you’ve concluded your tour, sit back and enjoy the show! And trust us, you will. This is a
38 | 2.25.24 Las Vegas Magazine
fast-paced, high-energy production, with each number displaying a fantasy fulfilled. The show’s host, Lorena Peril, shines with witty humor and powerhouse vocals that leave you itching to hear more. The vocalist seamlessly transitions from singing songs like “Roxanne” by The Police and Nina Simone’s version of “I Put A Spell On You” to cracking jokes with the crowd. And if you’re close enough for Peril to see you (which you are, because there’s literally not a bad seat in the house), be ready. You may have the opportunity to participate in the show; you may even find yourself onstage. And the dancers are incredible. They’re athletic, they’re gorgeous, and they never miss a beat. You’ll get a taste of many fantasies throughout the show, one being the super playful peeka-boo number to “Solo Dancing” by Indiana. As each of the girls take their turn pulling apart the curtains and having a moment alone in the spotlight, the upbeat, dynamic tunes pull the crowd in. During Peril’s rendition of “Black Velvet,” you’ll watch a few of the
women get all tied up. Fans of the movie Burlesque will enjoy the final fantasy of the night as the ladies show you exactly how they burlesque. The show’s cast also includes an aerialist who performs some heart-stopping stunts. Right now is an especially neat time to see Fantasy: The Strip’s Sexiest Tease, because it is on the road to 25 years at Luxor, which means it’s making a lot of changes. Normally, the show refreshes a few numbers per year, but this year most of the show will be revamped. That means you can have the time of your life at the show while you’re here, and by the time you come back (because we know you can’t resist coming back), the production may look very different. Sure, the greatest parts will remain, but there will be new props, songs and choreography being added all year. Talk about a fantasy fulfilled!

LAS VEGAS offers plenty of adventures and immersive attractions, but few provide opportunities to experience being an employee. Becoming a casino dealer requires education and verification. Chefs must have culinary experience, while DJs need some kind of proof that they can raise the roof. To become a temporary employee of Omega Mart, a subsidiary of the

Dram corporation, one only needs a Boop Card, purchasable upon entry to the innocuous-looking grocery story inside the main mall of AREA15, the immersive entertainment district west of the Strip. There is much to peruse as a shopper. Nontoxic Gender Fluid soft drinks blend the taste of lavender and lemon. Room-temperature milk provides an alternative to chilled dairy
products. Frozen drinks come in Primordial Ooze and Angel Slime flavors. The deli, “where family meats freedom,” offers sculpted cheese blocks and Meat Head samples that are “processed by pasture-trained, amateur meatierologists.” (See what they did there?) though saying “Boop!” while inserting them is encouraged. On-the-job training, company confidential data and authorization to use restricted equipment are just some of the privileges that come with a “Boop Card.” Learn to soothe, deflect and redirect dissatisfied customers with Omega Attitude. It also provides an introduction to the Dram family. More about the enigmatic owners of Omega Mart can be discovered via semi-hidden passages to the labyrinth-like corporate headquarters. Turn into an inconspicuous hallway, head up a flight of stairs, poke a head inside a camping tent on display or pull the right refrigerator door and enter a labyrinth-like alternative universe, ready to be explored. This is where Omega Mart becomes interactive Mega Art. The stairs lead to an employee breakroom where one can be bestowed with “Employee of the Moment” status before discovering a passageway to corporate headquarters and research and development areas. If a phone rings, answer it. If a computer keyboard lies in front of a desktop monitor, type a few keystrokes.
There are many signs of reclusive (or missing?) corporate head Walter Dram’s presence, as well as his daughter and heir-apparent Cecelia. Bits of information can become clues to what appears to be a conspiracy involving the Dram family. Check the file cabinets in the Herman Resources department for translucent plates that slide into a hard drive and give deep background on personnel. Or just roam through the area from room to room and marvel at the multitude of immersive installations. Light, sound, visual design and abstract concepts created by cutting-edge artists are around every corner, in every hallway and alcove. Stairways lead to interactive audio contraptions. Tunnels lead to different rooms or a short, rope-guided rock climb. By the end of the experience, it should be self-evident whether one has what it takes to live the Dram Dream. Not everyone can be an Omega Mart employee, but anyone can be part of Omega Mart in a consumer sense with the purchase of crisis-averting Emergency Clams, Dehydrated Water or a
