Schilling, a preseason All-America honorable mention, is one reason the Vikings are attracting national attention. Another is Camer on McCaffrey. Last season the 6-f oot-1 sophomore from Portland, Ore., stirred Viking followers with some late-game heroics that earned YouTube exposure. His season-long perfor mance resulted in Nor thern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Freshman of the Year laurels and a spot on the allconference second team. Schilling, 6-5 junior from Ellsworth, Minn., is the only returning Viking to have started all 31 g ames a year ag o. Named to the All-NSIC first team, he led Augustana in scoring (15.3) and rebounds (5.4). His play was key to the Vikings’ 24-7 finish – a school record for wins – and a 15-5 conf erence mark good for third place. His efforts resulted in first-team selection to the NABC All-Central District team, as well as Division II Bulletin All-America honorable mention.
Cody Schilling
As a true freshman, McCaffrey started one game last year but appeared in 30. He averaged 12.9 points a game, registered 57 assists and shot 43.5 percent from 3-point range. This year he is slated to step in at point guard for the graduated Jordan Dalton. Both Schilling and McCaffrey were selected to the 2009-10 All-NCAA Central RegionTournament team. The Vikings advanced to the c hampionship game before losing to St. Cloud State. Augustana also r eturns experienced “bigs” in 6-7 junior s Nate Truex (Sioux Falls) and Derrick De Zeeuw (Brandon, S.D.). Truex started a dozen games and appeared in all 31. He averaged 6.0 points and 3.2 rebounds. DeZeeuw got the starting call 18 times and pla yed in 30 g ames, averaging 3.8 points and 4.8 rebounds.
Cameron McCaffrey
Also r eturning is def ensive specialist Chad Hetter mann, 6-4 senior from Johnsburg, Ill. Leif Nomeland, 6-7 sophomore from Osakis, Minn., saw limited play last season but is likely to see more time this year as the result of off-season progress. Brennan Olson, a 6-5 redshirt freshman from Luck, Wis., is also slated to figure in Billeter’s rotation. Now in his eighth season at Augustana, Billeter has steadily solidified the men’s program. His V ikings ha ve made three consecuti ve NCAA T ournament appearances and advanced to the Centr al Region championship game in 2009 and 2010. Over the last three seasons Augustana has compiled a 67-26 record, and eac h of the last thr ee campaigns ha ve resulted in 20 wins or mor e. Augustana was ranked in the N ABC Top 25 poll for m uch of the 2009-10 season. Billeter notched his 200th career coaching win last season with an 84-73 decision over Upper Iowa and enters the new season with an overall mark of 206-142. , 6 > AUGUSTANA MEN S BASKETBALL

NSIC INFO > >
From its modest origin as a six-team alliance nearly eight decades ago, the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference has matured into a 14-team union of upper Midwest colleges and universities to form arguably the strongest affiliation in NCAA Division II. The NSIC can trace its r oots to 1932 w hen six sc hools, including Bemidji Sta te University, Minnesota State Uni versity, Mankato, Minnesota State Uni versity Moorhead, St. Cloud State University, University of Minnesota Duluth and Winona State University signed on as charter members. All remain active subscribers of the league today. Southwest Minnesota Sta te University was added in 1969, followed by Northern State University in 1978, Wayne State College (NE) in 1998, Concordia UniversitySt. Paul and the University of Minnesota, Crookston in 1999, the University of Mary and Upper Iowa University in 2006, and Augustana College, in 2008. Minnesota State, St. Cloud State and Minnesota Duluth later left the league to join the North Central Conference b ut returned to the NSIC in 2008. University of Minnesota, Morris and Michigan Tech University were once part of the NSIC family as well. In 1992, the NSIC became a true athletic showcase for both men and women with the merger of the traditional Northern Intercollegiate Conference and the Northern Sun Conference, the home of women’s athletics since 1979. Before NSIC affiliates became cer tified f or c hampionship competition in the National Colle giate Athletic Association in 1995, its member institutions filled prominent roles in the Na tional Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). NIC and NSC c lubs ann ually dispatc hed qualified student-a thletes to na tional tournaments and captured several NAIA teams and individual championships. The NSIC celebrates its 79th season this year and clearly continues to make a major imprint nationally, winning seven national titles in the last five years. Winona State men claimed NCAA II Basketball Championships in 2006 and 2008 and nar rowly missed a third crown, falling in a last second shot in 2007.In addition, the Warriors established a NCAA II record of 57 consecutive victories. Concordia University launched an ong oing streak of three consecutive NCAA II Volleyball Championships in 2007. In 2008 the Golden Bear s won 37 str aight matches after a season opening loss on their way to a second consecutive title and scripted a mar velous encore in 2009 with a perf ect 37-0 finish, a third straight national crown and a current winning streak of 74 straight matches. In a most sur prising run, Minnesota Duluth completed a perf ect 15-0 season b y winning the 2008 NCAA Division II Football Championship. The Bulldogs, limited to only 24 scholarships by league rule, swept a field of fully-funded teams, including top ranked Grand Valley State and number three Northwest Missouri State. Minnesota State added more luster to the league by finishing 32-2 and claiming the 2008-09 NCAA II Women’s Basketball Championship. The Mavericks rolled to a wild 103-94 victory over Franklin Pierce to set a NCAA r ecord for total points in the title game. Since 2000, the NSIC has also par ticipated in Mineral Water Bowl. Hosted by the Quarterback Club of Excelsior Springs, Mo., the Mineral Water Bowl matches the highest-finishing teams fr om the NSIC and the Mid-America Inter collegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) not selected f or the NCAA Di vision II f ootball playoffs. Winona State defeated Missouri Western State, 43-41, in triple overtime, the Warriors, first-ever NCAA II post-season win in 2000. In addition, NSIC student-athletes have made a major splash na tionally as w ell, collecting a ba tch of individual titles. Concordia setter Ma ggie McNamara was honored as the NCAA Division II Hondo Women’s Athlete of the Year, the latest NSIC representative decorated with national Player of the Year honors. The NSIC has long pr ovided competitive intercollegiate athletic programs for its members and several NSIC athletes have distinguished themselves on a larger stage, including the Ol ympics, major league baseball, the National Football League and the National Basketball Association. Member schools continue to emphasize the educational, entertainment and unifying value of sports while pointing with pride to the man y advantages to be g ained by attending these colle ges and uni versities. The NSIC is committed to pr oviding rewarding experiences for its student-athletes, and while the challenges that loom are sizable, indeed, the NSIC is surely well positioned for the future.

ELMEN CENTER HALL SPORTS FORUM
The Elmen Center is the home for the Viking volleyball, basketball and wrestling teams. The Elmen Center has been the host for several regional volleyball tournaments as well as the 2000 Division II Volleyball Elite 8 Championships. With a seating capacity of approximately 4,000 fans, the Elmen Center provides the Vikings with a definite home court advantage. The Elmen Center houses the recreation, athletic, and physical education departments. Since opening in February 1989, Augustana students, staff, and faculty, as well as the Sioux Falls community and region, have enjoyed attending a wide variety of events in the Elmen Center. Each year the Elmen Center is host to over 100 events consisting of athletic events, music events, youth rallies, lectures, swim meets, youth camps, clinics, and tournaments. The Elmen Center also serves as the core facility for the campus recreational sports and fitness activities. The 81,000-square-foot-facility is available over 110 hours each week for a variety of recreational activities. Augustana students, staff, and faculty may take advantage of a 25-yard swimming pool, two racquetball courts, the Hall Sports Forum, six locker rooms, two dry saunas, classrooms, a state-of-the-art training facility, and a multi-purpose/wrestling room that can be used for aerobic dance, martial arts, and wrestling. The Hall Forum features a 27,000 square foot performance area has a state-of-the art 176-yard running track, long jump pit, batting cage, and four multi-use courts. During the summer of 2008, the Hall Forum underwent $50,000 in improvements. The basketball/volleyball playing court was repainted with the new Viking and NSIC logos included. Courtside chairs were also refurbished to include the new Viking logo. The bleachers in the Hall Forum were also updated in the summer of 2010. New seat coverings were added, and the baseline bleachers were moved closer to the floor. Located on the first floor of the Elmen Center just beneath the Sanford Gymnasium, the Augustana men ’s bask etball locker room feels more like a lounge than a place to get dressed before practice and games. The Vikings have livened up the area with a high definition f lat-screen television, complete with an XBO X 360 and Playstation 3. While the team room is often times used as a place to relax, it is also the perf ect setting to maintain f ocus f or an upcoming competition. Players are able to analyze film, study scouting reports and converse with other players and coaches. Inspirational quotes line the e xterior walls of the locker room, and each player is allo wed ample space to stor e his belongings for practice and games. , 46 > AUGUSTANA MEN S BASKETBALL

SANFORD PRACTICE FACILITY HALL WEIGHT ROOM The Hall F ootball Comple x and Sanford Gymnasium opened in No vember of 2007. The 28,000 squar e-foot, two-level building is attached to the south side of the Elmen Center. Two r egulation-size colle ge w ood bask etball courts are on the second f loor in the Sanf ord Gym. The g ym fea tures a sta te-of-the-art playing surface, curtains that can se parate the courts and bask ets that can be lo wered under 10 feet for use with youth camps. The first f loor of the facility houses the Hall Weight R oom. The spacious tr aining ar ea features state-of-the-art equipment f or use b y the Augustana f ootball and bask etball programs. Brett Chambers, the strength and conditioning coordinator at A ugustana, makes his of fice in the Hall weight room, allowing for easy access for student-athlete training sessions. Until the Sanfor d Gym w as constr ucted, the Elmen Center Hall Sports Forum was the only indoor area available for practice, intramurals, and gym recreation functions. With the of the Hall F ootball Comple x and Sanford Gym ad dition, the Elmen Center is now more than 120,000 square-feet.
SIOUX FALLS ARENA The longtime home of Augustana basketball during the 1970s and ‘80s, the Sioux F alls Arena once ag ain hosted Viking bask etball games in 2004-05 as Augustana hosted the University of South Dak ota in the “Dak ota Basketball Classic.” Then in 2006-07, the Viking men’s and women’s basketball teams played all of their North Central Conference games at the Sioux Falls Arena. It was the first time since 1989 that the Vikings played their entire NCC schedule at the Arena. The Vikings returned to the Elmen Center in 2007-08, but Augustana still played two games at the Arena. The Vikings hosted South Dakota one final time a t the Arena in the “Dak ota Basketball Classic” and then pla yed the University of Sioux Falls in the “Pr airie Spirit Charitable Challenge,” a contest that has since become an annual game.
