Rideshare service currently seeking drivers T he Greater Owensboro Chamber Young Professionals (CYP) hosted a L yft informational session on December 9, 2017, at O.Z. Tyler Distiller y. L yft is a ridesharing ser vice that was recently made available in Owensboro. Interested individuals had the opportunity to follow step by step instructions to sign up as drivers for L yft. “Being successful in bringing a ride sharing ser vice to Owensboro was a huge win for CYP,” said Chamber Talent Programs Manager and Leadership Owensboro Executive Director, Jessica Shely Kirk. “This was the perfect example of young professionals working together along with the overall business community to improve the quality of life in Owensboro and continue the momentum in building a community attractive to millennials.” The goal by the end of the session was to have several drivers ready to be L yft approved. “We provided a one-stop shop session for
those interested in becoming LYFT drivers. Information for prospective drivers as well as general information about L yft and how it works was available,” said Andrew Howard, 2017 CYP Chair. CYP partnered with Bowen Tire for the event to offer a free vehicle inspection for any driver wanting to get their car L yft certified. Although a handful of drivers were successful in signing up as drivers at the event, Owensboro is still in need of additional L yft drivers. Requirements to become a L yft driver are a valid driver’s license, 21 years or older, proof of insurance, car registration, your car must be a model 2005 or newer and you must pass a background check. Interested drivers should also have the L yft driver app installed on their smartphone. Bowen Tire is continuing their partnership to provide inspections to certify vehicles under L yft requirements for interested drivers. For the cost and to schedule an appointment, please call Bowen Tire at
270-683-0236. “The success of this endeavor was made possible by a handful of organizations and businesses partnering with CYP. We could not have
made this happen without the support of the Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce, Visit Owensboro, O.Z. Tyler Distiller y, Bowen Tire and Greenwell Chisolm,”
added Howard. If you have questions about becoming a L yft driver, please contact CYP at cyp@ owensboro.com or call the Chamber at (270) 926-1860.
Wade Jenkins, 2017 Chamber Board Chair On January 26 at the annual Chamber Celebration, Board Chair Wade Jenkins of Old National Bank will officially pass the gavel onto Chair-Elect Bart Darrell, President of Kentucky Wesleyan College. Throughout the past year, Wade has served the Chamber and Owensboro in countless ways. “Wade has been an extraordinary Board Chair. His natural ability to lead and his ability to connect with what our Members need have been tremendous assets this year. The
bottom line is that Wade is a servant leader and we have been blessed to have him as Chair,” said Candance Castlen Brake, President and CEO of the Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce.
