Teachers in the Workplace Teachers in the Workplace is designed to provide teachers with exposure to the conditions and opportunities available in the workplace in the greater Owensboro region. Teachers and faculty members from local institutions will go on-site to work locations during each semester. Additionally, these individuals will have structured sessions to learn more about programs such as Community Campus and GOFAME along with the region’s local economy and workforce. Typical on-site visits will include presentations by the host employers about their industry and their workforce, the levels of proficiency required for employees and any other topics employers wish to cover. Tours of each host workplace are generally provided followed by time for questions and answers. The Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce hosted February visits for Teachers in the Workplace at the Messenger-Inquirer and Mizkan America, Inc. If your Member business is interested in hosting teachers in the future, please contact the Chamber at chamber@owensboro.com!

endell Foster is a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation currently governed by a board of directors and is located in Owensboro, Kentucky. Serving over 2,000 children and adults, we’re known for supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities across 34 counties in Western Kentucky and Southern Indiana. With nearly 400 people on staff, we take our impact as an economic driver in the region seriously. In 2017, the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce voted Wendell Foster as one of the “Best Places to Work.” In our 73rd year of existence, our core values still reflect the selfless lifestyle of our founders, Edith and Wendell Foster, with a mission of empowering people with disabilities to realize their dreams and potential. In 1937, the Fosters’ daughter, Louise,
was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at the age of 5 months old. Because of Louise, the Fosters committed their lives and opened their home to support children with developmental disabilities. The Fosters provided housing to children of seven local families and offered their home as a meeting place as children received physical and occupational therapy in the Fosters’ backyard. In 1947, Wendell Foster was officially founded. Wendell Foster has evolved into an organization that breaks down barriers, where our services take place in people’s homes helping with their daily lives, continuing with supporting children in school, with services like speech therapy. And at our location, we provide residential care to 63 people with disabilities, along with offering outpatient therapies to hundreds of clients a year.
