HAYDEN FARMS OPENS EDUCATION CENTER The Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce understands the importance for lifting the profile of the agricultural contribution to our regional economy. Not only does the Chamber have an Agriculture Committee that works to present events such as the longstanding annual Farm City Breakfast meant to bring both the business and agricultural communities together to celebrate success and crossover, but they also plan agribusiness tours across the community and help to share the story of agriculture leading our community through innovation. Hayden Farms is a perfect example of this. Long supporters of the Chamber, the Hayden family cut ribbon on July 26 to celebrate their new Poultry Education Center in Whitesville. The partnerships and support among Chamber members was evident as steak-holders in various sectors across the region joined at the ribbon cutting to celebrate. The farm’s manager, Daniel Hayden, a Chamber 40 Under 40 Honoree is known as a trailblazer in the area’s agriculture community. The goal for the center is to provide insight on how the animals are raised by hosting groups that would benefit from having the educational farm experience.

CHAMBER MATTERS

Chamber Young Professionals partner in philanthropy

O

ne of the most impactful things the Greater Owensboro Chamber Young Professionals participate in is philanthropy. The organization tries to offer several different ways to give back to the community. Whether it’s baking cookies at the Munday Activity Center for Meals On Wheels or the signature Businesses for Backpacks program partnered with Independence Bank where CYP members are asked to sponsor a backpack that will feed a local student during the school year on the weekends. CYP is also currently collecting back to school items that will be donated to area schools to help students have the materials they need to have a successful school year. Chamber Young Professionals focuses on increasing a hands-on approach to philanthropy with specific programs like Guys and Ties. Guys and Ties

allows male members of CYP to volunteer in area schools to teach students in our community about life skills such as tying a tie. One of the best parts of a program like Guys and Ties is that it came from an idea CYP member and Eyewitness News morning anchor Jake Boswell had as someone passionate about ensuring our next generation is ready for the

picked up the skill of tying a tie in a matter of minutes and looked ready for their first interview. After spending time with the students, several CYP members donated workforce. “I found the ties used to Burns volunteering for on the spot. The Guys and Ties to be positive experience incredibly fulfilling, for CYP members shared Dave Kirk, who participated was CYP Chair. just as impactful as it “It was was for the students wonderful who learned to tie a to have the tie, something that opportunity is often taken for to interact granted. CYP not with only plans to continue students this program in the at Burns fall and expand to Middle School. I other area schools, was most impressed but constantly looks with how polite and for ways to impact well-spoken the the community with a students were when interacting with some hands-on philanthropy approach. Together, of our members. May of the students our future is bright!
