Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce’s Red, White and Blue, presented by Big Rivers Electric Corporation, is Tuesday, October 29, 2019 from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. on the Daviess County Courthouse Lawn. Red, White and Blue is a non-partisan, family friendly event, striving to demonstrate to our community the importance of voting, providing an opportunity for our citizens to make educated voting decisions and promoting civic involvement on all levels. Candidates for the positions of Auditor of Public Accounts, State Treasurer, Commissioner of Agriculture, Secretary of State, Attorney General and Lieutenant Governor are on the program. Owensboro Community & Technical College to sponsor Rooster Booster Owensboro Community & Technical College (OCTC) is a public, two-year, open admissions college accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges and one of the sixteen colleges that make up the Kentucky Community & Technical College System. OCTC is a comprehensive community and technical college that values innovation, is focused on student learning, and is responsive to economic trends. OCTC has about 4,000 students from Daviess, Ohio, Hancock and McLean counties in Kentucky. Students are attracted by innovative “work and learn� model programs such as GO FAME and GO Business. Additional programs tailored to the adult learner include the TechX Multicraft and FastTrack Automotive programs. New additions on the horizon include a FastTrack Construction (January), Robotics (January),
Fiber Optics (March), Industrial Networking (August), and a revamped Agriculture program (August). OCTC’s Workforce Solutions works with business and industry partners on training, testing, and developing customized programs to meet industry specific needs. In addition, Workforce Solutions’ SkillTrain offers GED prep, English language and citizenship classes. OCTC’s Discover College is the umbrella of options for secondary students. Dual credit courses allow students to leave their high school and attend classes at an OCTC campus. Concurrent dual credit courses allow students to remain in their high school while earning college credit. Early College students attend classes on campus at OCTC full-time during their junior and senior years of high school. Early College students may graduate simultaneously with a high school diploma and an associate’s degree.
