CHAMBER MATTERS 2017

Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce

40Under40 announced

The Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce announces their 40Under40 highlighting young people in our community that we expect to lead us to a bright future. Over 100 nominations wer e r eceived. Completed nomination applications and essays were reviewed by an anonymous panel of persons independent from the Chamber. Why is it important for our Chamber to participate in processes such as this? One of our Strategic Goals is to Develop and Connect Leaders for the Future of Greater Owensboro. We do this is many dif ferent ways including our Leadership Owensbor o pr ogram, our partnership with the Regional Alliance for Education, our inter nships and the Chamber Young Professionals. Communities across the countr y that are growing strong economic bases are the ones who understand the importance of our younger generations. Our economy continues to evolve in a

way where jobs are following people. So building a community that is attractive and interesting to our Gen Ys and our Millennials will pay dividends for generations. And continuing to engage

this group going forward will ensure that we grow when other communities our size across the countr y are experiencing wage and population decline. We are on our way.

These young leaders we are featuring span their 20s and 30s. Some have already held important leadership positions in the community. Others are on their way. But we feel it is a critical part of our role in the community to not only identify these individuals, but to support them in growing their professional careers and their avenues for civic engagement.
