Greater Owensboro Economic Development Corporation to sponsor August Rooster Booster The Greater Owensboro Economic Development Corporation is the primary economic development organization for Daviess County with regional partnerships in Ohio and Hancock counties. We have seen a number of changes over the past several years, but none as powerful as our transformation from merely a business attraction organization, to an organization that deals with all sectors of economy and at all business stages. A strategy built solely on new industry attraction ignores far too much of what makes a vibrant economy. We know, thanks to great work by the Kauffman Foundation, that new companies create most of the net new jobs, and exist-
ing firms are at the greatest risk of losing jobs. Between 1977 and 2005, existing firms lost on average 1 million jobs per year, while new firms added 3 million jobs per year. For these reasons, GO-EDC will remain committed to start-ups and entrepreneurial development, and we will make sure that our existing industry program remains strong to help assist and guide our industries in good times and in bad.

Though new business attraction remains important to all of us, it is also the most expensive, difficult, and time-consuming strategy. Our site selection contacts, as well as our existing industry representatives have made it known that the number one consideration for a new location or an expansion is the quality of our skilled and competent workforce. In order to remain competitive with new business attraction, GO-EDC will continue to lead, in both discussion and action, on issues that effect positive workforce outcomes. We hope that we are and remain a positive force for economic prosperity and stability in the region.
