Large Crowd Anticipated for Red, White & Blue Picnic Several candidates for office will take the stage at the 2014 Red, White & Blue Picnic on Aug. 26 on the lawn of the Daviess County Courthouse. The nonpartisan event, sponsored by the Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce, will begin at 5 p.m., with the candidates taking the stage around 5:15 p.m. The event is sponsored by AT&T, and it will provide a free meal to the first 300 attendees. In addition to the free meal, cooked by the Daviess County Cattleman’s Association, there will be vendors with ice cream, cotton candy and other county-fair style food. “We extended invitations to all offices for this fall’s election, including those in the Kentucky Senate race. We are excited about the response we received and look forward to the community coming out with their families to meet the candidates and enjoy the picnic,” said Amy Jackson, President and CEO of the Chamber. “Each candidate will get three to five minutes on stage to address the crowd and tell our citizens and chamber members how they will represent them and continue to improve our city, county and state.”
At the direction of the Advocacy Committee of the chamber, the venue for the event has been changed to allow more public involvement and tap into the activities downtown in the community. Bringing the heartbeat back to Downtown Owensboro The Owensboro Convention Center is a symbol of the growth taking place in Owensboro. Since the grand opening in January 2014, this state of the art facility, managed by Global Spectrum, has hosted 145 unique events. These events are bringing the heartbeat back to our downtown and breathing new life into our growing community. A recent MessengerInquirer article shows April and May hotel figures are the highest they have been in a long time, and this is largely in part to new hospitality business coming to town. The Owensboro Convention Center now sits on the banks of the Ohio River offering 92,000 square feet of space. The facility also features 48,000 square feet of ballroom and meeting space. While
the large exhibit halls and impressive ballrooms offer a wonderful setting for large-scale events, the facility also has a number of meeting spaces perfectly suited for smaller events. The Owensboro Convention Center was built by the community, and it is ready to serve as an extension of the local businesses. For businesses needing a larger meeting space than is available at their own offices, the Owensboro Convention Center is a convenient solution. All of your needs -- including food and beverage, audio visual, electrical, etc. -- are taken care of in-house so that you can plan your meeting with ease. The prime downtown location in the new facility is sure to breathe new life into your next meeting or company event.
