Kentucky Exports on the Rise

Rooster Booster speaker Brad Thomas to address the trend Kentucky merchandise exports increased 14.3 percent in 2013 over 2012, growing from $22.1 billion to $25.3 billion – a record high export level for the state. Kentucky’s merchandise export sales in 2013 outpaced its 2012 figures in many countries, including: Saudi Arabia (up 381 percent), France (up 135 percent), Colombia (up 93 percent), the United Arab Emirates (up 79 percent) and Spain (up 51 percent). To help the Greater Owensboro region learn more about the opportunities, Brad Thomas will address the April Rooster Booster crowd. Brad leads a team dedicated to growing Kentucky’s economy by assisting

Kentucky’s largest business sector, entrepreneurship, at the Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development. As part of his duties, Brad manages the Governor’s Kentucky Export Initiative, an effort that brings together agencies and organizations across the state to facilitate international trade opportunities for Kentucky businesses in a consolidated and consistent manner. Comprised of government entities, business organizations and trade experts, the KEI goal is simple – to increase Kentucky exports, which will lead to new Kentucky jobs and create diversified markets for Kentucky products.

Brad is also responsible for supervising a staff that works to assist entrepreneurial growth through an array of programs, including consultation, financial assistance and government procurement. As a 24-year state government employee, Brad has also worked with the Tax Increment Financing program since its inception and today is the primary contact for the program. Prior to his work with the Cabinet, Brad worked 17 years with the Department of Revenue in compliance and tax policy. Currently, Brad lives in Frankfort with his wife, Reneé, and three children, Logan, Canyon and Carson.

Our entrepreneurs continue to innovate and grow our economy through exciting new products and services offered not only to our region, but to the world, as well.
