To help attract UBER and Lyft to Owensboro, CYP with the partnership of the Chamber and CVB are pushing a social media blast Nov. 2. The groups are asking people to do a few things before Nov. 2 like download the ridesharing service apps and set up accounts. Owensboro as possible to blast the social media accounts for UBER and Lyft using messages such as #Lyft up Owensboro. @lyft @GOchamber #okby and Owensboro is #UBER excited. @uber @GOchamber #obky In addition, we encourage you to post on UBER’s and Lyft’s Facebook pages specifically asking them to bring their services to Owensboro. The only way to bring enough attention to this project is if we get everyone in our community to act and take part in such an exciting venture. Please share this information with your family, friends, coworkers, classmates, etc. and encourage others to actively participate Thursday, Nov. 2.

To be a part of the process, you may attend one of the public input opportunities listed above or you may email ideas to chamber@owensboro. com and put Community Priority in the subject line.

KWC sponsors November Rooster Booster

K

entucky Wesleyan College is a proud member of the Owensboro and Daviess County community, providing affordable faith-based higher education opportunities. The College is proud of its rigorous academic environment and vibrant campus life experience. KWC earned two Top 10 rankings in U.S. News & World Report’s recent annual list of best colleges; No. 3 in the category of “Great Schools, Great Prices” among Regional Colleges in the South and No. 8 in the South as a Best Regional College. Both rankings were improvements from last year, when Wesleyan ranked 5th and 13th, respectively. Wesleyan is one of only three Ken-

tucky schools to achieve a top three category ranking. In August, Wesleyan was recognized by the Princeton Review as a “Best in the Southeast” school for the 14th consecutive year. In the last year, Wesleyan has announced innovative educational partnerships with the University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law, University of Kentucky College of Medicine and the Western Kentucky University Gordon Ford College of Business. Meanwhile, Panther athletics celebrated three Great Midwest Athletic Conference titles and NCAA Tournament appearances in 2016-17 – men’s basketball, softball and baseball.

Sharing Chamber talent efforts in Frankfort One of the strategic goals in the Chamber’s Plan of Work is to develop and connect leaders for the future of Greater Owensboro.

W

e do this in many ways including our Leadership Owensboro program, Chamber Young Professionals, our Chamber internship program, our partnership with the Business Education Alliance and the 40 Under 40 Group. On Sept. 27 our community presented to Kentucky’s Interim Joint Committee on local government co-chaired by Senator Joe Bowen. Senator Bowen afforded us the opportunity to share the stor y of our community’s success relating to the retention and recruitment of young people. We told our stor y – Chamber Board Chair Wade Jenkins and Chair Elect Bart Darrell were joined at the podium by seven different YPs testifying – about the limitless opportunities we are finding as we engage our young people – and how the under 40 residents in turn are fueling a renaissance in the Owensboro region which has led to deeper engagement of a group who have much to offer, a stronger economy with steady and sustainable growth and a livable community where you can get involved and make a difference, no matter what your age.
