Three Owensboro businesses tapped as winners of annual chamber awards

Nearly 500 people were on hand to see three local businesses earn the annual Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce Small Business and Entrepreneur Awards. At the monthly Rooster Booster event in June, John Fentress of Greener Owensboro Recycling was named winner of the Entrepreneur of the Year. On Time Fab, Inc. won Small Business of the Year (1-10 employees) honors, and Southern Star Central Gas Pipeline was the recipient of the Small Business of the Year (11+ employees) award.

Fentress of Greener Owensboro Recycling stated that his goal now is “to see a blue recycling bin at the end of everyone’s driveway.”

In addition to the presentation of the annual awards, the Chamber hosted the 9th annual Owensboro Has It! Expo

featuring 45 local businesses who are this year’s sponsors of the Chamber’s buy-local campaign.

Laura Alexander, Sales Manager at the Owensboro Convention Center shared how Owensboro Has It! benefitted her company, “The Owensboro Has It! event gave us the opportunity to unveil some of the details of the new Owensboro Convention Center that is scheduled to open in December 2013. We had several individuals walk up to us and share their excitement about the facility, as well as give us the contact information of a conference they attend each year that they want to bring to Owensboro.”

Before joining Anthem, Hayes served as Regional Sales Director for Prudential. During his six years at Prudential, he was their leading sales person, and won

In 2008, Hayes published his first book entitled “When, God When?” It is a Christian inspirational motivational book that helps people deal with the challenges of everyday life.

Hayes is a graduate of Western Kentucky University, where he excelled in both athletics and academics. He received a B.A. in Public Relations and Business Administration. He and his family reside in Louisville, Kentucky.
