What WKU has experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic demonstrates, more than ever before, the underlying strength and resilience of the University. In Owensboro and Daviess County, faculty, staff, students, alumni, and partners met head-on and overcame what is arguably the largest challenge in WKU’s history. What was experienced this year will never be forgotten. Looking to fall 2021, WKU plans to return to normal operations, including a transition back to hybrid courses in Owensboro very similar to the prepandemic blend of in-person and online instruction. WKU also continues its work to develop offerings in Owensboro and Daviess County that match the needs of the area, including an online Bachelor of Social Work program and continued focus on the Criminology, Engineering Technology Management and Computer Information Technology bachelor’s completion programs. It’s clear that the University remains committed to increasing access to students in the Daviess County area to programs with strong demand and also to serving place-bound students seeking higher education. As WKU continues to increase access and opportunity, tremendous work is being done in Daviess County to support the effort. Last year, 19 local students were awarded more than $92,000 in scholarships from local community donors. WKU is incredibly grateful for these donors who give back to their community so that students from Owensboro and Daviess County can have the opportunity to pursue a college degree. The future is bright for WKU in Owensboro. Through collaboration with critical partners across the area, the University looks forward to continuing its important work to create life-changing, positive effects for its students and for its communities.
