Senator Thayer to speak at October Rooster Booster

Damon Thayer (R-Georgetown) was first elected to the Kentucky State Senate in a 2003 special election, representing the citizens of the 17th District, which encompasses Grant, Owen, Scott, and southern Kenton Counties.

Senator Thayer, chosen in January 2013 as Senate Majority Floor Leader by his peers, helps guide bills through the legislative process on the Senate floor and helps set the policy agenda. Leader Thayer acts on behalf of his party during the proceedings on the Senate floor. As a member of Leadership, Senator Thayer serves as a member of the Committee on Committees, the Rules Committee and the Legislative Research Commission.

Thayer was born on September 16, 1967.

He graduated from Michigan State University in 1989 with a Bachelor of Arts degree

in Communications.

He is the owner of Thayer Communications and Consulting LLC, a marketing communications firm in Georgetown. He has two children, son Daniel and daughter, Katie.

Thank you for a successful Golf Classic The Chamber Golf Classic, presented by Owensboro Health Medical Group, took place Friday, August 23 at the Owensboro Country Club.

Thank you to all 144 golfers that participated in the premiere golf outing of the year. Congratulations to Nick Knapp and Nathan Cruse of VE Creative and Clay Ford and Paul Clements of E.M. Ford & Company for winning the first place prize.

Emerge Owensboro class of 2014 underway The community’s leadership development program— Emerge Owensboro—had its first class on September 12th with a full day of local history, leadership theory and learning about local leaders.

The class of 26 will meet once per month through April and graduate in May 2014 at a special graduation and alumni reception.

The class’ next session is Thursday,

October 17th with the popular “Human Needs and Services Day.” Emerge Owensboro is a joint program of the Chamber of Commerce and the Economic Development Corporation.

OCTC continually aligns programs with jobs that drive economic future from the cover

ATC Phase II, a $13.5 million project, is integral to the future of the Greater Owensboro Region.

“We have seen remarkable growth in our technical programs,” Klauber said. “We don’t have room to offer all of the programs needed in our region. If OCTC is unable to build this facility, we will not be able to meet the needs of the strong manufacturing base of this region and efforts in economic development will be compromised.”

Phase II will allow OCTC to foster the development of new

programs and growth of existing programs. The project will enhance synergy of the technical programs on the main campus to better serve students who wish to train across disciplines.

“It will allow us to put all of our manufacturing-based programs on one campus. Now, they are spread across three campuses,” said OCTC Vice President of Academic Affairs Scott Williams. “Regionally, we are the primary comprehensive advanced manufacturing training institution.

In order to provide the skilled workforce needed for economic growth, this facility is essential.”

CHAMBER MATTERS Human Resources 101 Training Program offering Disability & Workplace Safety Training The Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce has partnered with the Owensboro Society for Human Resource Management for Whatcha Need to Know Wednesdays, a sixpart series to assist its members with human resources basics.

The six month program began in July with its first session on hiring and recruiting. All sessions are facilitated

by Certified Human Resources professionals. The remaining three sessions include: • Disability and Workplace Safety – October 16 • Challenging Employee

Relations – November 20 • Coaching for Performance – December 11 All sessions begin at 11:30 am, and conclude by 1 pm and will be held at the Home Builders Association of Owensboro – 3515 Wathens Crossing. The program is open to Chamber members, and will cost each participant $20 per individual session. The fee will cover the cost of lunch and all materials.
