Brescia University to sponsor September Rooster Booster The future is bright at Brescia University! Since its origins as the Mount Saint Joseph Junior College for Women in 1925, Brescia University has maintained a single overarching goal – student centered education as directed by the four pillars of its mission: Catholic, Liberal Arts, Career Preparation and Service to Others. Inspired by St. Angela Merici, the faculty and staff of Brescia University strive to understand the unique needs of contemporary students and to address those needs with an education customized to the individual student. The Result: Values driven graduates who use their talents and skills to build successful careers, to nourish strong families and make a difference in the lives of others, the life of the Church, and the life of the community. Brescia University graduates include physicians, lawyers, teachers, social
workers, business people, engineers, coaches, priests, religious, moms and dads, and a multitude of other life vocations – many of whom call the Greater Owensboro area HOME. The driving force that propels Brescia University is the belief that, through education, lives are transformed and through those lives, the world becomes a better place. With one foot firmly planted in a rich history and the other planted in an innovative and visionary future, Brescia University is poised to continue its legacy of transforming lives for many years to come. The future is bright at Brescia University!

Jennifer Elwell with CommonGround to address food production at September Rooster Booster Jennifer Elwell has been the communications director for the Kentucky Corn Growers and Kentucky Small Grain Growers Associations for the past 16 years. In 2010, Jennifer became inspired to reach a broader audience and share her knowledge of farmers and food production. She began writing her blog, “Food, Mommy!” which delves into issues such as food choices, food safety, industry issues and parenting to raise thoughtful consumers. Shortly after, Jennifer became involved in CommonGround, a national initiative of the Corn Growers and United Soybean Board to bring moms
from both sides of the farm gate together for meaningful conversation to reduce the fear that comes with food purchases today. Jennifer has been a speaker at a number of events for both farmers and consumers. Last year, she participated in the public issues forum, TACKLE, representing the farm community in a discussion about biotechnology and genetically modified foods. Through her experience, she is regularly invited to speak to farmer groups about how to have effective and respectful conversations about tough food issues. She also writes a monthly column for The Farmer’s Pride newspaper on
similar topics. For her work, Jennifer was presented the 2013 Kentucky Farm Bureau Farm Public Relations Award. Jennifer is also passionate about educating the youngest consumers. She has developed a number of classroom and teaching tools to share agriculture’s positive message and share the stories of our farmers. Most recently, Jennifer organized her own company, Farm Scholar, which provides custom, agriculture-based educational resources. Future plans include the development of a farm public relations network to provide improved assistance to farmers wanting to connect with food buyers.
