ALOYZAS SMILINGIS-ELIS, 1938 Lithuania Elis is a famous Lithuanian painter and sculptor. His talent for drawing was recognised when he was still a schoolboy. Determination to become a professional artist led him to the Academy of Arts in Vilnius, Lithuania. Search for self expression brought him into the three dimensional world of sculpture. Bronze, granite and other materials obeyed him and despite his non-conformist approach and mode of expression, artist became famous in the former Soviet Union. In the 80’s, during his visit in USA, Elis met Willem de Kooning and exchanged creative ideas. This meeting was a great inspiration and since then Elis is dedicating all his creative energy to abstract paintings. Artist resides and works in Lithuania, his art is owned by several Lithuanian museums and belong to private collectors in Australia, Italy, USA, UK, Denmark, Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, Lithuania and Japan. “Artistic ideas are more important than a number of exhibitions, prestigious projects or faithfulness to one genre or style. I am not keen on reproducing myself. My thinking is changing and so does my art. I remain self-critical and walk on.” Click for more information
Aloyzas Smilingis-Elis STILL LIFE WITH PALETTE 1974 116x81 cm oil and acrylic on board
At first glance it is an abstract painting, but deeper look reveals a perspective and some objects in the background, covered with layers of blue, yellow and red brush strokes. Geometric lines allude to an open window and possibly a sun or the moon in the sky. The painting is called a still life, because when carefully examining it, the viewer will also discover the vase with flowers and possibly a bowl of fruits. The frame is also a part of this artwork, the touch of artists paintbrush extended the artwork as if it is too big and too energetic to be squeezed in borders. Click for more information.
Aloyzas Smilingis-Elis TRIPTYCH, 1974 85x60 cm oil on board This triptych, painted in a minimalistic manner, consists of three artworks: “Grand Piano”, “Mirror” and “Still Life with a Chair”. Three artworks, painted in similar colour scheme match beautifully together and communicate the elegant simplicity of the things surrounding us in our everyday life. Paintings represent the early creative period of the artist when he was still creating both — realistic and abstract paintings. Since the 80’s, Aloyzas Smilingis-Elis is completely dedicated to abstract art, so this elegant trio would be a truly valuable addition to any sophisticated collection. Click for more information.

Aloyzas Smilingis-Elis PORT 2012 81x120 cm oil on canvas This artwork has an interesting story. When artist decided to replace the frame of a painting that was created long time ago, he discovered that there is another canvas underneath. He removed the painting and to his surprise, found a painting of the port created by an unknown author somewhere in the sixties. He could not recall who’s painting it could be — possibly a friend from the young days or a fellow student from the Arts Academy has given it to him. So artist decided to create a new artwork by adding expressive strokes to the old canvas. This way new painting was born and if the viewers take a deeper look, they can still see the river and ships in the background. So this painting has two authors and one of them is unknown. He founded a gilding company right after graduation and dedicated his career to this remarkable craft. However, the passion for creating art never left him. Audiences in the USA are already familiar with his artworks and now Wayne is widening the horizons by introducing his art to art lovers in Europe. “My goal is to capture and share an image of the continuousness that I believe in. The universal symbol of infinity represents that endless path for me, with all points being equal, with no beginning, and no end. JAN JANDEART, 1953 Switzerland Jan Jandeart is a self taught abstract painter, he covered his first canvas with paint in 2015. The inspiration came from… the argument with his artist friend who was struggling to find an idea for a new painting. Jan suggested he should portray the “Good” and the “Evil”. A friend insisted that it is not as easy as it may seem, so Jan decided to try painting it himself, just to prove his friend wrong. He did not stop painting ever since then and spends a lot of time at his cosy studio near Lucerne. His abstract paintings are inspired by music and each artwork has a title of a certain song that dictated colours and forms. At the moment Jan is preparing for his his first solo exhibition that will take place in Zurich. His artworks were very well received and are already owned by several private collectors in Switzerland and France. “My passion is to make my favourite music pieces visible. The process uniting those two different forms of art — the visual and audible — is both interesting and joyful. I think it is not a coincidence that people who own my works are also big fans of music.” Click for more information
JAN JANDEART UNDER PRESSURE 2016 80x80 cm acrylic and oil on canvas
The famous duo - Freddie Mercury and David Bowie sang a song called "Under Pressure" that is playing on repeat in our minds until this day and has inspired Jan to create an abstract diptych of the same title. The paintings were created on canvas in rhythmical strokes of oil and acrylic. Two artworks are united by the same colour patterns and similar brush strokes and match beautifully together, just as two vocals of the famous singers unite into uplifting and memorable melody.“ Click for more information.
JAN JANDEART ALMOST BLUE 2017 80x80 cm acrylic on canvas
As all paintings created by Jan, this one was also inspired by a musical piece. The artwork reflects the mood of a song “Almost Blue”, covered by american jazz trumpeter Chet Baker. The painting is dominated by turquoise — the colour that is very close to the blue, it is somewhere in between green and blue. Just as the mood of the song that balances between sadness and romanticism. Like the melody, the painting is composed with free and soft brush strokes and some sad dark drips of paint. Click for more information.
JAN JANDEART SANTA MARIA 2017 100x150 cm acrylic on canvas
One can almost heart the emotional tango rhythm just by looking at this colourful painting, inspired by Gotan Project’s song “Santa Maria”. The layers of free, colourful strokes reflect the music that flows freely, but has a very clear rhythm. The lines of red, blue and yellow are expressive, just as the passionate moves of the dancers. Click for more information.
JAN JANDEART BURN 2018 100x70 cm alkyd on canvas
Just as the song “Burn composed by The Cure, this paining is very energetic. Splashes of bright colours remind of the sound of Rock & Roll guitars and lively drums. Once again the artist succeeded in reflecting a music piece on canvas. Click for more information.
JAN JANDEART BLUE IN GREEN 2018 121,5x150 cm alkyd on canvas
Two colours are dominating this artwork, inspired by Miles Davis tune of the same title. The blue is melancholic and the green is calming, just as the melody of this music piece — relaxing but a little bit sad simultaneously. The background of the painting has a rhythmical structure of wide paintbrush strokes and the artwork is finished with bright drips of paint, finalising the jazzy composition with free improvisational details. Click for more information.
JAN JANDEART SINNERMAN 2017 70x140 cm mixed technique on canvas
The canvas, inspired by Nina’s Simone’s song is dominated by rich red. Confident strokes on white background are rhythmical and energetic, just like the song that inspired the artist. The contrast between red and white tells the viewer about the dual life of a Sinnerman and his journey in search for forgiveness, his exhausting run for a hideaway, a run to meet the Devil and the Lord. Click for more information.
JAN JANDEART WICKED GAME 2017 100x100 cm oil on canvas
The original song that inspired the artist to create this artwork was composed by Chris Isaak and covered by Ursine Vulpine and Annanca. It was the cover that made him paint the canvas in deep dark colours, as dark as the tones of the song harmony. Though painted in dark notes the artwork does not communicate sadness, on the contrary, the strokes of white, purple and splashes of yellowish paint break the darkness with optimism and beauty. This contrast is both a very interesting and meaningful combination.. Click for more information.
JAN JANDEART INTERSTELLAR 2018 140x140 cm oil on canvas
This artwork is inspired by the main theme from the film of the same title, a piece composed by Hans Zimmer. It is very meditational and takes the viewer to the depths and unknown of the Cosmos. A longer gaze at the painting may remind the viewer about the sky on a quite autumn night. The mix of blue and orange makes this artwork energetic, yet calm. Painted in wide strokes this painting reminds us about spinning galaxies and the infinity of the Universe. Click for more information.
JAN JANDEART HOMELESS 2018 100x100 cm oil on canvas
This abstract artwork was inspired by Philipp Frankauser’s song of the same title. It is not about a man who lost his home, but about a man, who lost his love and is not able to find a place where he could feel like home. The painting is executed in melancholic blue, grey, brown and dark green, but has some breakthrough of white colours, because the homeless man still has hope and is looking for a new start. Click for more information.
JAN JANDEART PERFECT SENSE 2017 150x100 cm oil on canvas
This abstract painting was inspired by Roger Waters piece "Perfect Sense. It is meditational just as the beginning of the song and may take the viewer to the endless and eternal Cosmos. Swirls of deep and dark reds reflect the foolishness of human violence and greed in the context of eternity. Click for more information.
JAN JANDEART NO ORDINARY LOVE 2017 80x60 cm acrylic on canvas
Everyone who has heard Sade singing would probably agree that her voice sounds luxurious and such is the painting, inspired by her song “No Ordinary Love. It is painted in gold, with golden and white drips. The artwork is vibrant and changes the look at different times of the day, because the golden surface reflects the light. Abstract white lines add quite a lot of mystery to this painting, as they glow in the dark, so the painting has yet another face when the night comes. Click for more information.
JAN JANDEART SOUND OF SILENCE 2018 110x140 cm oil, acrylic, oil powder and epoxy filler on canvas
The keys of a piano, playing this well known song are black and white and so is this abstract painting, inspired by the musical piece of the same title by "Disturbed". Silence and sound are antonyms, just like darkness and light, black and white. The question is, what colour belongs to silence and what to the sound? Is it black or white? Or possibly few drips of gold, brightening up the melancholic melody of two basic colours and minor tones of black and white? The answer belongs to the artist, but the viewer can reveal it by looking at the painting and listening to the song. Click for more information.
