EXHIBITION

EAGLE AFRICA BY PHILIP METZ / / - / / GOETHE-INSTITUT GHANA Eagle Africa is a multimedia art project

by

German-Ghanaian

artist Philip Metz, which examines the colonial history of Germany in Ghana

through

video,

and

photography,

installation.

The

project is now resulting in an Image: Philip Metz

exhibition that is being presented

at the Goethe-Institut. Adler Afrika/ Eagle Africa is an art project that tries to reconnect the dots of Ghana’s and Germany’s common history. The project is focused on Busua, a small town at the coast of Ghana and the historical site of Großfriedrichsburg, a fort in Ghana founded by the Brandenburgian elector Friedrich von der Groeben who is known as a particularly violent colonial aggressor. The fort became relevant to the fate of many of the around Brandenburg.

Color of the Ocean dramatically connects the lives of three unrelated individuals: Jose, a hardened cop; Nathalie, a naive tourist; and Zola, an undocumented African refugee. Their stories are deftly interwoven together with the tough issues of illegal immigration. The struggle to do the right thing places issues of responsibility, compassion and moral duty at the heart of an utterly compelling human drama.

is presented by RWUL (Reel Worldwide Underground Link) and

celebrates the work of independent filmmakers of African descent from around the world. This year’s theme is: Connecting the Diaspora showing films from filmmakers with diverse backgrounds. ILAFF is not about just about films highlighting Africa, but rather about authentic stories from artists of African descent and giving them a platform to share their work with an international audience. I Luv Africa (ILAFF

) in Ghana will be a three day event this year with

He quickly understands why Nairobi is nicknamed Nairrobery as he is robbed of all his money and belongings and left alone in a city where he doesn’t know a soul. Luck or the lack of it brings him face to face with the city’s criminals and forms a friendship with a small time crook who takes him in. He is quickly drawn into a world of crime as he struggles to pursue his dream of becoming an actor.

We are going to have a lot of vendors for handicraft and food. If you need some Christmas presents you can finde some for sure. Besides the market we’ll have live performances and the Goethe Bar&Grill will be open for you to get some snacks and refreshments.

FLEA MARKET EVERY FIRST SATURDAY OF THE MONTH, 10AM-5PM The Open Air Stock Exchange offers a unique shopping experience. On the grounds of Goethe-Institut Ghana, selected stands and artisans offer everything the heart could wish for: organic herbs, jewellery, beads, clothes, bread, home-made pasta and a lot more.

THURSDAY FILM EVERY TWO WEEKS ON THURSDAY, PM Goethe-Institut shows films in a range from drama to documentary to shorts covering specific topics. Come and enjoy a nice film with us.

OPEN MIC JAZZ JAM WITH GOETHE BAR&GRILL EVERY 2ND FRIDAY OF THE MONTH, 7PM Goethe Bar&Grill’s Russ has a deep love for jazz music he wants to share. He is organizing the monthly Open Mic Jazz Jam at GoetheInstitut where you can perform or just listen to music and enjoy some kebabs and burgers.

WRITERS PROJECT OF GHANA EVERY LAST WEDNESDAY OF THE MONTH, 7PM In cooperation with Writers Project of Ghana, Goethe-Institut organizes monthly readings by Ghanaian and other African authors. Writers will read, talk and discuss and books will be on sale.

EVERY LAST FRIDAY OF THE MONTH, 4PM-5PM The Tandemstammtisch is to meet people and discuss topics that are of interest to everybody. The discussion will be in English and German. In this way people will be addressed who enjoy speaking English or German and who have reached B level in both languages.

STUDY AND RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES IN GERMANY The DAAD Information Center holds a monthly Introductory Session on Study and Research Opportunities in Germany. Participation in this session is free of charge but mandatory prior to visiting the Information Center for individual consultation. Anyone planning to study or do research in Germany is welcome to attend the Introductory Session.
