HALF MOON BAY HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL
WELCOME HMB COUGAR FANS
TO THE 2021 FOOTBALL SEASON>>> It is my great pleasure to welcome all fans and supporters of Half Moon Bay Football, Cheer and the Marching band to our 2021 season! The last number of seasons has been magnificently successful in areas of the program! Championship teams, tremendous student/athletes/citizens, and a deep connection with the team and the community make this one of our marquee programs. This is my sixth year as principal of Half Moon Bay High School and I believe that all who know me know my Cougar pride runs deep! In addition to being the current principal, I previously coached Frosh/ Soph football, girls’ basketball and the golf team for Half Moon Bay in the 1990’s when I was a teacher at our school. I have sat on the edge of my seat watching my daughter represent Half Moon Bay playing volleyball, basketball and softball and my son playing football and golf for the Cougars when they attended HMBHS. I now sit in the stands watching my stepdaughter plays on the volleyball team. These memories are truly some of the fondest I have. I have had the opportunity to watch our teams preparing for this season and I am continuously impressed with the great passion our student/athletes practice, and how much they care about their sport. I will also assure you that we have outstanding coaches leading our programs. I have watched closely the work our Football coach Keith Holden has done over the years and he truly is one of the finest high school coaches in the nation. He has assembled excellent assistants who support his vision, and care about every student on the team. Every student who plays for coach Holden will not only will learn how to play football well; they will learn to be better teammates, students and most importantly, citizens. Our Cheerleader Coaches have dedicated themselves to building one of the top cheer programs in the bay area. They not only cares about how the students perform on the field and sidelines, but they care deeply how they perform in the classroom and in the community. Walter Anderson, our Marching Band teacher brings a wealth of knowledge of teaching music, and a genuine enthusiasm to teaching the band. Over the past five years, the energy of the band has turned our football games into true community events! I look forward to watching them perform and improve all season long. The Half Moon Bay High School athletic program offers a large number of sports including cross country, volleyball, water polo, tennis, basketball, soccer, wrestling, track and field, softball, baseball, swimming, surfing, and golf; all supported not only by the Cabrillo Unified School district, but in large part due to the work of dedicated volunteers. Our Athletic Boosters working with our HMBHS Parent Teacher Organization and our coaches is the reason we can afford to offer such a great variety of sports. Their devotion to giving our young people the opportunity to represent their school in interscholastic competition is greatly appreciated. As someone who cares about the athletic programs at the High School, I encourage you to join and support our Boosters and Foundation. Let’s make this the best season ever by supporting our athletes in the most positive manner. Let’s cheer when they are successful, and refrain from negative statements about officials or decisions made on the field. We will show our true Cougar colors by respecting our opponents; understanding they are student/athletes as well. I wish each player and team the most enjoyment and success this year. By practicing hard, cooperating with coaches and teammates, and competing hard in every contest, that determines the real winners. I know we will have many winners this year and each of them will contribute to that great tradition we know at Cougar Athletics!
GO COUGARS!

HEAD COACH >>A MESSAGE FROM THE FOOTBALL
First off, I’d like to take this opportunity to say how excited I am to be the Head Football Coach at Half Moon Bay High School. I still have the same enthusiasm I started with when I took on this roll in 2012. I am honored to carry on traditions established and maintained by previous coaches like Jack Coolidge (2012 Inaugural Hall of Fame Coach) and Matt Ballard (2 Time Undefeated League Champ and 1st Ever CCS Football Champ). I am extremely lucky to work with the players and coaches I work with. Also, I couldn’t work in a better or more supportive community than Half Moon Bay. I take a lot of pride in being born and raised in Half Moon Bay and feel fortunate to have the role that I have today.
On behalf of the Cougar family, I would like to thank the many supporters who have helped make Cougar football a success. Thank you to all the local businesses who have supported our program through donations, ad spaces, value cards, and facility use and time. Thank you to all the team moms, past and present, who have supported our players and helped make our football program a family. Thank you to Half Moon Bay High School Staff and Administration for all their support of our student-athletes. Thank you to all the volunteers who take on roles for our program. Thank you to our alumni for their constant support. And, thank you to all the coaches who dedicate their time to help mold the lives of these young men. It really does take a village. The final thanks I would like to give is to our players. Our players have put in many hours of work and have made sacrifices in order to have a successful season. They are now excited about the opportunity they have to play Cougar football.
COUGAR PRIDE, ALWAYS
Keith Holden
