'Human Head' in Ved Nayar's drawings, paintings & sculptures
by Gogi Saroj Pal
They say 'Let the history judge the work of Art'. I am curious to know, who is writing the history & who will be writing history of art? Ved Nayar, in his creative visual imagery explored number of directions. In the formative years of Indian contemporary art after independence, I feel, Ved was first to begin & evolve number of creative directions now being practiced in Indian contemporary art. Thought of compiling this book is to register the correct dates of the starting point of these creative visual directions in Contemporary Indian Art . Gogi Saroj Pal This book ‘HEAD ON MY SHOULDERS’ ‘Works by Ved Nayar’,became possible with help of Ved Nayar, Gogi Saroj Pal, Rekha Sharma, Ruchika Sharma & Sahil Sharma.

'Human Head' in Ved Nayar's drawings, paintings & sculptures
Gogi Saroj Pal
PREFACE 'HUMAN HEAD’ (Drawings, Paintings & Sculptures By Ved Nayar) Head is perception & form of universe. Head is my way of seeing things & also head is how the other person conceive things. Human head is not only a form, head is an idea, head is a commitments, head is a decision. .Head is other person's stand; head is other person's commitment to the universe. DRAWING is Ved Nayar's habit. He starts his day by making a drawing. Making drawing continues, throughout the day, in between making painting, sculpture & other chores. You can find his drawings everywhere in his studio & home. In between he made lots of drawing human head and then converted these to sculptures. Drawings & paintings are part of this book. The idea for evolving human head for his sculptures. Major collection of Ved Nayar's works are with Glenbarra Art Museum, in Himeji, Japan & Delhi Art Gallery, New Delhi.
