“WE SHAPE OUR BUILDINGS; THEREAFTER THEY SHAPE US.”

chinatown cultural centre
FOCAL POINT FOR THE COMMONS
The “chinatown cultural centre” is five-storied tower that houses a cultural academy for the promotion of Chinese language and culture. This cultural academy would serve as an extension of the Kong Chow Wui Koon (KCCC) next door. To this end, the “Boundless Learning” is primarily designed as a multifunctional community space for members of the public to learn various aspects of Chinese culture. By providing seamless access to the various aspects of Chinese culture exhibited in the building and the KCCC, this tower shows members of the public the virtually infinite possibilities available in their adventure to learn more about Chinese culture.

CULTURAL CONNNETOR FOR THE COMMUNITY
Modelled upon the the award-winning “Roof sentiment” at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea (MMCA), the “Cultural Capillary” is a roof installation would serve as the focal point of the newly rejuvenated Duxton Plain Park. Just as this park serves as the so-called ‘Green lungs” of the city, the “Cultural Capillary” is a vital component of the overall body of the city. Not only does this roof installation’s perforated character bear uncanny physical resemblance to that of a real capillary, it facilitates the flow of peoples and cultures between Little India and China Town.

The roof consists of woven attap blinds held together, with a set of wires that draw a wave design. The steel pipe structure that bears this roof is located on the top on a depressed ground which provides an intimate seating space where people can enjoy fresh air and shade away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The roof constitutes an icon of modernity with its light steel structure but also refers to the historical background of Singapore using attap a traditional building material used by inhabitants of its rural kampongs of all races.

Envisioned Of a Community Utopia
serves as a multifunctional community space. On the ground floor, there is an agora that serves as a focal point for community gatherings such as movie nights. On the second and third floors, there is an inter-connected play area for younger children, especially preschoolers be low the age of 6. On the fourth floor, there is a café for residents to eat and socialize together. Parents, for example, can keep watch on their children playing on the 3rd and 4th stories. At the same time, produce from the community garden on the rooftop would be used to make many of the dishes.

Gunung Belajar
Designing is not a profession but an attitude
Dual-purpose public space that house both a heritage gallery and kindergarten. With the exception of the usage of steel gusset plate members to improve the durability of the structure, I have designed “Gunung Belajar” as a faithful extension of the vernacular architectural traditions of Kampung Naga
By emphasizing the presence of tradition within this space, “Gunung Belajar” is designed to transmit and educate visitors and students about the culture and traditions of Kampong Naga rather than merely imparting head knowled.

Efron Family House
Application of Ergonomics & Anthropometry
“Efron Family House” is an abstraction of the traditional Chinese courtyard house. Rather than merely copying the design of the traditional Chinese courtyard house wholesale, my design hopes to translate into the modernist style the design principles that embody of the family values of the traditional Chinese courtyard house. The intent here is not to bridge East and West as some might believe. Instead, I am focusing on creating a house that revolves around the abstraction of family rather than work

multipurpose shophouse: residential, commercial, hospitatlity
compartmentalization for 3 segment
these are some of the few strategy implmented
1 restricts official business to the principal house at the north of the compound.
2 Modern art showroom is restricted to the first level of the house
3 staircases create a boundary between the work and family by reducing the spaciousness of the showroom with their diagonal angles.

LUXURY BATHROOM
Luxury, a place of tranquility, evoking a sense of isolation and a place to meditate. A personal sanctuary in the urban landscape.
Plantation has been added to enhance the user experience, visually and mentally. In order to create sensation of user immersing in the natural rock bath, air shower head installed on ceiling represent natural rainfall and pattern of walls shape like the formation of the rock. This bathtub is compacted with multiple functions by adjusting the movable floor panel tiles up or down for showering, bath, feet soaking, infant care and pet care. By making the tile design modular, users are able to customize accordingly to their needs. Sustainable features incorporated to the design like the air shower head that uses pressure to increase the flow of the water and water filtration system used for the water closet and plants.

social charing hub
CAMPUS CHARGING STATION
After a long day of lectures and lessons, the student usually runs out of social energy. They would thus lack the energy to get any assignments done. As Young has noted, phones are but an inadequate means to recharge ourselves. We might be able to recharge our phones but would our phones be able to recharge us?
“
Social energy comes from spending time in a stimulating environment with other people ...... When you lack social energy you can spend hours trying to work and failing to get anything meaningful done.”

Art installation that invites us to reflect upon the Singaporean identity. The basic building blocks of this sculpture are rectangular cuboids. Similar in shape to the shipping containers one sees in Pasir Panjang terminal, theseblocks bring to mind Singapore’s status as a cosmopolitan trading hub.
