SEPTEMBER 2012

Items to update Our Montessori Primary classroom opened for pupils on Monday 10th September. It was a very special event for the children— there was a simple but memorable ceremony to farewell children from the Early childhood classes and to welcome them into their new Primary class. The 9 foundation pupils are now getting themselves established in their new programme and surroundings. We are really pleased to be able to now offer the 6-12yrs Montessori programme—next Term we will hold an open day for parents of this Centre to come in and see what makes us so different from traditional Primary schooling.

Absent is Kaela Stanton.

The first “Great lesson” of the programme introduces concepts which are extended within the Science and Cultural curriculum.

Thank you most sincerely to Martin Schuitemaker and helpers who prepared the new shelving for the classroom. It was a task that grew from a kind thought to quite an onerous commitment—we really appreciate the effort that was put in to build and prepare these.

31 August was Dr Maria Montessori’s birthday. We celebrate this with the children by laying out her timeline and explaining her life in pictures. It was also marked by the Google founders (who were Montessori students) by a “Doodle” on the Google home page.

Summer is coming—the Turtles have emerged from hibernation. Maisie, Betsy-Scarlett, Ned and Silas feed the turtles.
