EDITOR’S NOTE
D es d Deadlines
It’s hard to believe, but this is my fth edition of Bride.
Since I rst stepped into these shoes in 2019, every edition has proved to be a learning experience. In that way, it’s similar to marriage itself. I’ve been married for 16 years now, and I truly do learn something new about Josh nearly every day. And I’m grateful for it.
This fth round of Bride has also proved illuminating as well. For this issue, we did something a little different than we have in the past and I think it’s something that really paid off — we photographed our styled shoot in the spring of 2023.
Previously, we have staged it in the fall, September or October. For folks who are not in the industry, it’s a bit of a mind melt to gure out when these things come together. I certainly never knew how it all worked until I got this gig.
While it was a bit of a hustle to get the shoot together (I usually require a 12-month recovery time), it was worth every ounce of effort. It makes a huge difference. Shooting in the spring for a spring release allows us to really showcase these venues in all their springtime splendor. I mean, just look at this cover.
When we headed out to Forbes Farm, the azaleas were a bloomin.’ You just couldn’t ask for more. Once again, our Bride photographer John Krivec delivered big time, capturing these stunning, eye-popping images bursting with color.
Of course, he had a pretty good subject to snap, our gor-
geous gal, Gabi Dawes, who was kind enough to model for us this year. We also have to shout out our glam squad — Brittney Gault of Island Day Spa who did Gabi’s makeup. We had awesome Alicia Brooks of the Hair Cottage back to style her hair. The gowns were provided by our good friends at The White Magnolia in Savannah.
And we have to thank the fabulous folks at Forbes Farm, who were incredibly gracious to let us share their beautiful location.
In addition to the styled shoot, we have all of the goodies that make Bride ... well Bride.
We have delightful editorial tidbits along with 10 real weddings for some on the ground inspo. This year, we added something special. Due to those pesky deadlines, we have traditionally kept the wedding submissions mostly to early-to-mid-months of the previous year. That would mean January to about July of 2023. It also means we miss all the fabulous fall ceremonies we have here. Those are becoming just as popular as spring time soirée (if not more so). For this issue though, we opened the door to fall 2022 weddings just to include that autumnal magic for you guys. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
We hope you enjoy it and seeing all these other fabulous couples. We just love love.
To love — Lindsey

Welcome to the Party
WORDS BY PHOEBE BARRETT | PHOTOS BY BROOKE ROBERTS
When she was planning her wedding, Charlotte Hunt and her husband, Richard, had guests ying in from about twenty different states. So she knew a welcome party was an absolute must.
“The purpose was just to spend as much time with our friends and family as possible,” Hunt says.
Before becoming a bride herself, Hunt was a seasoned wedding-goer. The wedding weekend can sometimes feel like a drag for guests, she says, especially those who are ying out to attend. So she wanted her welcome party to be a fun, convenient way to kick off the weekend for all of her guests.
Each event over the course of their wedding weekend was held within reach of St. Simons Island, where the wedding ceremony took place. Richard’s parents were members of Sea Island, so she says it felt natural for them to hold their welcome party on Rainbow Island — a lush, vibrantly green landscape with an intimate view of the water.
“I wanted everyone to see the beauty of the area, of the Golden Isles and Brunswick.”
Rainbow Island is connected to Sea Island by a winding boardwalk, allowing guests to “stop and smell the roses” — to feel the salty sea wind blowing on their faces as they walk across to the venue. It’s a taste of the coast, a grounding experience for both locals and those coming from out of town. Though it did involve some walking.
“I’m glad I didn’t wear heels,” Hunt jokes.
The venture over to Rainbow Island also served as a good photo op.
While a welcome party is for socializing, photography was also a big consideration in Hunt’s mind.
“When it’s over, what you’re left with is photographs,” she says.
The party itself was full of moments to capture, too.
They had an open venue, encouraging people to chatter, walk around and admire the land and the décor arranged throughout the space. Wooden light xtures were hung from tree limbs, illuminating the paved brick underfoot and heirloom roses perched on light green tablecloths. It was loosely fenced in by palms, complete with live music and, perhaps most importantly, an open bar.
Over anything else, though, Hunt says she wanted it to feel approachable.
“We made sure the space didn’t feel too big that people would avoid each other. And we didn’t want to do anything too fancy. It was really just a place for both of our families, our in-laws, to meet and mingle. The bar helped for sure,” she says with a laugh.
They didn’t serve food, but they made sure guests knew about local restaurants nearby, of which the Golden Isles certainly has no shortage, listing many of them on their wedding website for guests unfamiliar with the area.
Thankfully, the party went off without a hitch. But Hunt was prepared in case it didn’t.
Any number of things can go wrong when it comes to an outdoor event, most of all “Weather, weather, weather,” she says. It’s important to have back-up plans, she explains, as well as event staff to help put those plans into action.

Poppin’ the Question
Capturing the Magic of the Moment
For many, poppin’ the question starts with strategic planning. Just ask Conner Behrend. He was determined to plan an unexpected, perfect engagement for his hardto-surprise girlfriend, Peri Odachowski.
The two have been friends since they were toddlers, which meant they basically knew each other’s every move.
Almost 11 years ago, Conner and Peri had their rst date, where the two walked the beach on a December night at Sea Island.
“First date, I told her, ‘I love you. I’m in love with you,’” Behrend recalls.
Many years later, Conner says, he wanted to propose where it all began at Sea Island. He began scheming.
An opportunity arose when his friend, Wick Nalley, created his company, Wicnic events.
“We make it an elevated luxury, (an) over-the-top picnic experience for people. It’s basically straight out of a magazine. People are just mind-blown when they walk into the setting,” Wick says.
Conner laid out the plan for Wick — rst step, have Wick ask Peri if she and Conner could model in a Wicnic events photoshoot.
“He played it off perfectly. Peri was like, ‘Oh my gosh, should we do it? I’ve never modeled before. Should we go model for Wick?’” Conner says.
The “photoshoot” was set for Dec. 30 at
the scene of Conner’s rst “I love you.” Wick started the day early on the beach, setting up a picnic blanket, vases of hydrangeas, a charcuterie board, glassware, and champagne.
“It could not have been more picturesque,” Peri says.
When the couple arrived, they did a photoshoot for about 30 minutes. Next in the plan, the photographer said she needed to change lenses and told the two to take a break — Conner’s cue. He took Peri and walked along the beach.
“There were all these little things that I then, in that very moment, started kind of piecing together. And then looked up at him. I was like, ‘This man is sweating. He is clearly nervous,’” Peri says, laughing.

“And he got down on one knee.”
“Did you say yes?” Conner asks Peri.
“I think I said ‘yes’ actually a million times,” Peri says.
She said their magical experience, full of lots of tears, still feels like a dream.
“For a while, we’ve known that we were going to be together forever … yet in the moment when he actually got down on one knee, it felt like the biggest surprise ever,” Peri says.
Peri says she and Conner celebrated after the engagement by enjoying the picnic from Wick. The couple plans to get married on the same day of their engagement.
“It doesn’t matter how much you’ve dreamed about it and thought about it. When it’s there, it is the most surreal experience ever, and it just made us excited for the rest of eternity,” Peri says.
Peri said that Wicnic created the dream proposal that she didn’t even know she had.
“It was really special for me to be a part of their special day. Love them. They’re just the best,” Wick says.

CAPTAIN
Epic Exits: A Memorable End to a Reception
WORDS BY PHOEBE BARRETT | PHOTOS BY BROOKE ROBERTS
Sometimes an ending is really the beginning. And nowhere is this more true than at the end of a couple’s wedding reception.
The grand sendoff following the night of celebration is a key element when it comes to capping off the evening.
Caroline Weidhaas, a senior event designer at Sea Island, views it as an opportunity for attendees to show their appreciation for the couple and to bid them good luck.
“The whole reception is leading up to this moment,” she says. “Everyone gets to wish you well. It’s that last feeling of the whole celebration.”
Of course, it’s important for any wedding reception to end on a high note. Which is why, St. Simons Island wedding planner, event
designer and prop stylist Emily Burton says, more of her clients are looking into the current trends.
“The last few years, there have been a lot of sparklers,” she says. “Attaching cans to your car is also making a comeback.”
Sparklers and cans are both affordable options for brides on a budget. So are party streamers, bubbles, rose petals, and silly string. These also make for good photo ops, Weidhaas says, especially bubbles and streamers. More expensive options might include an extravagant reworks show, which are also popular. Cost is, you guessed it, one of the most important considerations in planning a grand exit.
Time can also be a concern. For example, it can be difficult to quickly usher attendees to the place where the grand exit is happening, which is usually outside the venue. Weidhaas proposes a
14 GOLDEN ISLES BRIDE 2024
musical escort as one method of solving this problem in a way that’s both fun and memorable for guests.
“Something you can incorporate into your grand exit is having someone from the band play while walking outside from the stage, leading your guests out to where you want them when you depart,” she says.
Another consideration, Burton adds, is composition. Everyone wants good photos of their wedding, she says, so she encourages her clients to consult their photographers before setting any plans for their grand exit in stone.
“I advise clients to position their grand exit based on what their photographer tells them,” she says.
Regardless of all of these considerations, however, what it all boils down to is personal taste.
Like weddings, both Burton and Weidhaas contend, exit strategies should be tailored to the couple. Burton says she encourages clients to work within the aesthetics of their wedding and the overall vibe of their relationship.
“I had a couple of fun, super energetic clients who waved neon wands,” she says.
It’s that easy to customize a grand exit. Even small details, like color, can help personalize a wedding and make it feel unique to the couple, Weidhaas adds.
“I had a couple who were super patriotic who chose to wave mini-American ags on their way out of the venue,” Weidhaas says. “Another client I had used their late grandfather’s vintage convertible as their getaway car.”
All of these examples are based in tradition, but with a personal touch. Weidhaas says that’s her goal, to steer clients toward thoughtful exits that are mindful of tradition but still feel special for the couple.
“Whether it’s vintage or completely, just totally off the wall, I always tell my clients to pay attention to tradition, but in the end, do what feels right to you,” she says.

Love Story
Love in the Air
For Amber Tankersley and Stephen Floyd, their love story took off by chance. The two met when Stephen was an Invisalign patient and Amber was working at the orthodontist’s office.
He took a chance and asked her out. And before too long he was asking another question.
“The proposal happened at the Kentucky Derby and was the rst trip we had taken in a year that I was not anticipating the question to be asked. We were in the stands waiting for the derby race to start, and as a mega horse gal, of course, I was hyper-focused on the starting gates opening,” Amber recalls.
“I heard someone yell ‘Oh my gosh, he’s proposing’ and as I turned to my left, I saw Stephen down on his knee. The buzzers then went off, the race started, and the longest shot ended up winning the Kentucky Derby. It was a dream.”
Their springtime wedding, March 25, 2023, also turned out to be quite dreamy. The couple chose a creative and unique venue — the McKinnon-St. Simons Airport.
“Stephen introduced me to the aviation community very early on. He has always had a love for it, so I suppose there was a part of him that hoped I would too — and he was right,” she says.
The two have spent a lot of time at the airport and set up their ceremony’s outdoor seating overlooking the runway. They’d originally arranged for a yover from a friend but the weather didn’t get that memo.
“Unfortunately, the weather had other plans but that didn’t mean our ceremony was any less ‘us.’ We moved our ceremony inside the hangar and stood in front of a massive Gulf Stream,” she says.
“Our personal touch to the ceremony was the intimate sand ceremony Stephen, my son Maddox, and I did together. It was important to us that we symbolized our joining together as a family and that we had something tangible from that moment.”
These sweet touches made the day incredibly special, even though it didn’t go entirely according to plan. The couple walked away with beautiful memories.
“Even amongst all the madness, all I could think about was walking down the aisle to my husband. That sounds cheesy, but it’s true. Marrying my husband was the most surreal feeling,” she says. “I refused for our wedding day to be a ‘complete blur’ as most told me it would be, so I took in every moment and enjoyed our time with our people.”

Love Story
Black Ties and Sunny Skies
Spring is a special time in the Golden Isles. So when Abbie Holmes and Charles Bufkins were planning their wedding, they knew the season was for them. Both had a connection to the area and felt it would be the ideal place to officially begin their life together.
“I’m from Valdosta and Charlie is from Nashville, but his family owns a house on the island and he grew up coming there. We spent a lot of time there when we were dating too,” Abbie says.
The two got engaged in October and had only seven months before their wedding day, May 30, 2023. But they found their ow in the fast pace of the planning.
“We loved our short engagement. We were very laid-back about most details, which really helped our relationship,” she says with a laugh.
But they also had a shared vision for their big day. Abbie says they embraced the bright, bold colors of the season.
“I did pinks, blues, greens very bright, nothing dusty or muted,” she says.
The couple also embraced nature, exchanging vows in the Cloister garden. Then, they moved to the Black Banks Terrace for cocktails.
A tented dinner was held on the Black Banks terrace. They ended the evening in the Mizner ballroom for dancing and the cake cutting. “We had espresso martinis served on silver platters when our guest arrived in the ballroom for the last part of the reception, and that truly made the night,” Abbie says.
Looking back, there’s nothing they would change and they will treasure the memories that will last a lifetime. “It was so light, so dreamy, and perfect for a light spring wedding … it was just so much fun,” she says. “You could not wipe the smile off of either of our faces.”

Love Familyand
For Kristi Ratz and Ed Inman Jr., the joy of planning their wedding was also mingled with grief. They had both suffered losses — Kristi’s father passed in May 2021, and Ed’s beloved grandmother died in 2022.
So they wanted to make sure to create a meaningful ceremony that included their loved ones.
“Both played signi cant roles in our lives, so one of the moments that really stood out for us was honoring my dad and Granny by lighting and releasing a oating lantern for each of them during our ceremony at sunset,” Kristi says. “My wedding coordinator Lauren had the idea. It turned out beautiful and was very touching.”
The idea of family, what they lovingly call “our Village,” was front and center. Their children from previous marriages served as groomsmen and ring-bearers. Kristi’s daughter was her bridesmaid and her mother walked her down the aisle.
The Atlanta-based couple approached their wedding a bit differently, holding the official “I dos” on Friday, June 9th, 2023, with a small group of close friends and family. On Saturday, June 10th, they hosted a larger shindig for more guests.
“During the day we invited all of the guests to join us on the beach outside of the King and Prince Hotel, where we had a tent set up with balloons,” she says. “Later that evening at Captain’s Bluff, Ed and I were in our wedding attire and made our grand entrance with our rst dance as a married couple. The event design was amazing and everyone was blown away by what Lauren, orist Emily Hall with Wunderbar, and Beachview Rentals put together.”
While their celebration delivered stunning aesthetics, it was the time to connect with their loved ones which will also be lifelong memories.
“We were very lucky in that we had two extra special days to enjoy one with our small village, and then with our larger one,” Kristi says.

Love Story
Sarah Gross grew up traveling to the Golden Isles as a child. It was something she’d do with her grandmother, a local “snowbird.”
“I have been taking annual spring trips to St. Simons since I was 5-months-old,” Sarah says.
“My family would visit with my grandma. St. Simons is such a special place to us and always will be.”
It would become even more special in the years to come, especially after meeting Charles.
“We met the old-fashioned way, at a classic Chicago bar on a snowy December night in 2018. I knocked back some liquid courage before approaching ‘the cute tall guy’ across the bar,” she recalls.
“We have been together ever since. Charles proposed roughly three years later, throwing an epic party with all our friends and family to celebrate.”
Another fabulous celebration would be held on May 6, 2023 at the King & Prince Beach and Golf Resort on St. Simons.
“We hoped for an intimate affair with lots of sentimental touches. Our design vision was for classic, chic, coastal romance,” she says.
And they did just that. The couple exchanged handwritten vows against the backdrop of the Atlantic Ocean.
“It felt like the most natural thing in the world. While there were nerves, it was easy once we saw one another,” she says.
Smiles and cheers followed as they exited down an aisle lined by wild owers.
The reception was held in the Atlantic Court of the resort, featuring an open design with a classic black and white dance oor. They also wove in ocean blues in their color scheme with delftware vases featuring over owing bouquets of wild owers. The couple danced the night away amidst the seaside breeze, stopping only to toast their friends and nibble on cookies from Sweet Mama’s.
“… a nostalgic favorite,” Sarah says.

Love Story
Sarah Epps and Conner Ligon’s love story sounds a bit like a movie plot. The two were born in the same hospital and even attended the same preschool. They lived ve miles apart in the same town after college — but they didn’t meet until their paths crossed in the “new-fashioned way.”
“Conner and I met … on Bumble. We realized shortly after getting to know each other that our paths had continued to barely miss throughout our lives,” Sarah says.
Dreams and Destiny
The two had their rst date on April 10, 2021. Just One year later, Conner proposed at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens.
“I had a hunch that the proposal was coming that day. He was a nervous wreck from the time he picked me up for church that morning to the moment he put the ring on my nger that afternoon,’” Sarah says.
“He might not have shocked me with the proposal that day, but man oh man did he get me as our families and friends rounded the corner to join in the celebration. It was a sweet day planned by a sweet guy.”
The two married on April 29, 2023, in a ceremony at the First United Methodist Church in Darien, followed by a reception that took place at Oaks on the River Luxury Boutique Resort.
Sarah says the town has been a special place for her family for years.
“We have always loved its small-town charm, peaceful setting, and beautiful river views. We looked at several different venues throughout the Golden Isles, but when we found out Darien was building a new hotel on the riverfront, it was a no-brainer,” she says.
“To get married in my favorite place to my favorite guy and to have all of our loved ones be able to stay in one place was a dream.”
One of the things that was most important to the couple was making sure the wedding “felt” like them. They wove touches of blue and white, Sarah’s favorite color scheme. They also incorporated coastal elements throughout, including in their orals and decoupaged oyster shells tastefully scattered throughout the reception.
Sarah says that two important (furry) faces added another personal touch.
“Waylon, our Australian Shepherd, made an appearance on the koozies. Blanche, our ‘rags-to-riches’ rescue cat, made an appearance on the cocktail napkins,” she says.
“Another special touch to the wedding was our officiant … my great aunt Pat. She has married each of the grandchildren and we were so blessed to have her continue the tradition with us.”
There was, however, a decidedly less welcome guest that made an appearance — rain. Sarah says that she’s traditionally brought a drizzle to many outdoor events.
“… so the fact that I thought I could plan an outdoor wedding on the coast is comical. As we ran wild the days leading up to the wedding trying to nd a plan B suitable for the day, I was feeling the pressure,” she says.
“However, with a little prayer and a little begging, we nailed down the First United Methodist Church in Darien. Words will never be able to fully express how grateful we are to the Rev. Bruce Morgan and his wife, Missy. They opened their church doors to us and saved the day.”

SSo h n AT FORBES FARM: S ic i
t. Simons Island is filled with pretty places. But one new space has blended island charm and classic elegance to offer an entirely new option for couples — Forbes Farm.
Tucked away amidst moss-draped oak trees, the venue shimmers in the morning sun. Winding up the long driveway, you pass patches of blooming azaleas, adding another layer of Southern sweetness to the scene.
The craftsman design boasts rustic wooden accents paired with stone. The motif continues inside where an enormous open space offers endless possibilities. The room is capped by exposed beams and punctuated with golden chandeliers. Since the space was created with weddings and special events in mind, every detail has been incorporated, from the romantic bridal suite to the chic groom’s lounge and the expansive back porch perfect for sunsets and cocktail hours.
There’s also the lush landscaping and sweeping marsh views that add to the ambiance.
Golden Isles Magazine could not be more grateful to the fabulous team at Forbes Farm for allowing us to use this gorgeous setting as the backdrop for our 2024 staged bridal shoot. We’d also like to give a shout out to our own crew. John Krivec returned to photograph our “bride,” the stunning Gabi Dawes. The gowns were lent to us courtesy of The White Magnolia in Savannah. We had the beautiful Brittany Gault of Island Day Spa on St. Simons Island on makeup, and the awesome Alicia Brooks of the Hair Cottage in Brunswick tamed Gabi’s tresses.
The florals were provided by Cottage Flowers on St. Simons. The sparkle was borrowed from our friends at Chadwick’s Jewelers, Cunningham Jewelers, Joseph Jewelers, and Noble House Jewelry. Priscilla Boudreau of DeVoss Photography took care of staging and photographing the jewelry, which she did beautifully.

Shining thr gh the St m
Tthe day Dr. Emily Rose Davis met Dr. John Moesch was one she’ll never forget. Though it might not be the most romantic of settings — two were in the midst of medical training in dermatology.
“I was a medical student doing a visiting rotation at his residency program in Tampa, Fla.,” she recalls. “It was his first day of dermatology residency. He was so nice and welcoming. He definitely made a lasting impact on me.”
Two years later, they reconnected via social media, started dating, and never looked back. When the couple decided to say “I do,” they wanted to incorporate elements that were both timeless and personal.
“We talked about a destination wedding that wasn’t too far from my hometown of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and John’s hometown of Savannah,” she says.
“Once we found out about Jekyll Island through our wedding planner, it was a must for me. The vibe of the venue aligned perfectly with the vision I was looking for.”
They opted for historic Crane Cottage for their rehearsal dinner and the reception, while the ceremony was held on the Riverfront Lawn.
“There was also a Welcome Party following the dinner in the courtyard of the Crane Cottage,” Emily says.
“The groom’s cake was cut and served at the welcome party

as well, which featured all tools used for dermatology and dermatopathology — a microscope, slides, scalpel, and dermatoscope. It was super unique and personalized.”
When it came to the wedding, the weather evidently didn’t fall in line. With wind and rain clouds closing in, the team mobilized to move the dinner and reception inside to save the big day. Thankfully, the rain held up until after the ceremony.
“After the ceremony outside, everything was moved into the lobby and covered courtyard area of the Crane Cottage. It also turned out beautifully. Jekyll Island Club Resort did such an amazing job moving everything in a matter of 15-20 minutes. It was amazing,” she says.
“We had cocktail hour and dinner outside in the courtyard following introductions and dancing in the lobby of the Crane Cottage.”
But the rain didn’t damper their special day, May 27, 2023. In fact, the mist offered the ideal backdrop for some unforgettable images courtesy of their photographer and videographer.
“We slow danced and kissed; it was truly a magical few moments together as husband and wife. It was amazing how everyone in our team turned a seemingly negative circumstance into a positive, with such a creative spin,” she says.
“The shots utilizing the misty rain and windy atmosphere made for such amazing photos and sweet moments together that I will cherish forever.”
The memories of being surrounded by friends and family will also be something the couple will treasure.
“We were surrounded by people most supportive and impactful in our lives, which meant so much to us. The reception was a blast — the party really turned up a notch in the last hour or so when the Patriotic-themed or Memorial Day weekend — top hats, foam glow sticks, etc. — came out. It was truly the best day,” she says.

A Fa Fête at Frederica
It was a stroke of good luck when Kat Kellerman and Tom Lovelady met. That happened on a photoshoot at Baker’s Bay in the Bahamas. Tom was entering his rst year on the PGA Tour and Kat was working as a stylist for Vineyard Vines.
“(Vineyard Vines) was his clothing sponsor and we spent a week working on their catalog shoot together,” she says.
“We became friends and kept in touch as we both traveled for work more than we were home. In 2019, we started dating after Tom made an impromptu trip to New York City where I was living at the time. We then got engaged in November of 2021 on a hike in Point Dume, Malibu.”
When the two shifted into wedding planning mode, one place kept cropping up – St. Simons Island.
“I knew planning from afar wasn’t going to be easy and I could not have done it without the help of my planners Danielle Baird and Beth Williams, oral event designer Lindsay Pope at The Vine, and our insanely talented stationer, Julie King,” Kat says.

“We enlisted them in the very beginning and it was crucial to have their perspective and expertise during the year leading up to the wedding. I am forever indebted to these ladies and my mother for supporting and helping my vision come to life.”
That happened on October 8, 2022, a 75-degree autumn day with plenty of sun.
The couple’s nuptials combined Southern charm with breezy sophistication. They also made sure to add sentimental touches to the celebration.
The bride’s uncle James Egan led everyone into the recaption by playing the bagpipes as he does at many of their family’s events. The groom’s mother and aunt, a orist, lent their special sense of style to the reception dinner’s design at the Frederica Boathouse.
“My dad, Richard made the most memorable speech with a heartfelt toast to Tom’s father who passed away in 2015 and who we all wished could have been there with us,” she says.
But the occasion remained upbeat. The dance oor was fully occupied as espresso martinis were passed around and guests enjoyed the pink champagne wedding cake.
“We ended the night on stage with our 12-piece band singing, ‘Sweet Home Alabama,’” Kat says.
“It was truly a perfect day and we couldn’t be more grateful to both of our families for hosting in our opinion the best wedding ever.”

W“I rst became acquainted with the Golden Isles during a family reunion I attended on St. Simons Island as a child,” she says.
Georgia would become special to Kendall for another reason too. Her future husband, Brandon, hails from the Peach State. The two met through a summer internship program before they attended different law schools.
“Brandon and I were in the same class at Morehouse and Spelman, respectively, but somehow we never met each other during college,” she says.
“Brandon proposed at his 28th birthday party. He planned a big party with friends and family and he ended the evening by getting down on one knee with the engagement ring and telling me that all wanted for his birthday was for me to be his wife.”
Once engaged, the couple began planning a fall ceremony, set for September 17, 2022. The day incorporated their family along with their cultural traditions. One of Kendall’s beloved personal touches was wearing her mother’s dress to the ceremony.

“My great aunt Olivia ‘Ollie’ was a renowned Garment District seamstress and she hand stitched each swath of lace and pearl by hand. I worked with a tailor to restore the dress and alter the dress to have a trumpet silhouette,” Kendall says. “My mother was a bit nervous when I suggested modifying a family heirloom, but I maintained the integrity of the design while adding my own air.”
The family connections continued as they were married by Kendall’s aunt, an ordained minister.
“We also incorporated the African American tradition of jumping the broom at the end of the ceremony, which symbolizes a new beginning and sweeping away of the past. Jumping the broom at Sea Island felt like a beautiful tribute to our ancestors,” she says.
Music was another important part of their day. Kendall says they hired a talented violinist, Candice, for the ceremony.
“Candice played a beautiful rendition of a Chance the Rapper song, which was a highlight of the ceremony,” she says. “Having Chloe (Paint by Chloe) paint our ceremony was also a great touch, as we now have a precious heirloom from our wedding day.”
All of these elements came together to create a truly spectacular day. The day was elegant, lively, and uniquely them, Kendall says.
“Marrying my husband felt surreal. I could not have asked for a better start to our marriage,” she says.

Starry-eyed teenagers are frequently reminded of an unfortunate truth — young love usually doesn’t last.
But Macey Thomas and Christopher Seibel are proof that it’s not always the case.
“We are high school sweethearts. We met over 11 years ago and have been together ever since,” Macey says.
The two were raised in Pittsburgh but Macey’s family made frequent trips to St. Simons and Sea islands. And when they got engaged, they knew the Golden Isles would be where they’d make their aisle walk.
On Nov. 4, 2022, they made that dream a reality.
The weekend started with a Welcome Party at Silver Bluff Brewing Company in Brunswick. It took the form of an upscale picnic, featuring Southern Soul.
“… always a crowd-pleaser,” she says. “We also had a self-serve popcorn bar with different toppings, Dolce Dough donuts, homemade cookies, and custom sugar cookies in the shape of our sweet dog, Kaiden.
The big day followed at Forbes. The couple enlisted the help of Emily Burton to bring their vision to life.

“We had to switch venues mid-planning process due to some unbeknownst city code requirements. But we truly believe everything happens for a reason and we ended up with the most perfect venue. Forbes Farms exceeded our expectations in every way, and all of our guests were very impressed with the property,” she says.
Their boho-themed ceremony allowed them to incorporate a variety of fall colors and textures. Most importantly though, they wanted the vibe to re ect them as a couple.
“We had our ceremony and cocktail hour on the outdoor grounds of Forbes, and our reception was inside the beautiful main room,” she says. “Our wedding was a perfect representation of us, and it was re ected in every aspect- from the decor to the food, even the music selections.”
The food was a focal point and the couple worked closely with Avant Catering to ensure every bite was delectable.
“We served plenty of passed hors d’oeuvres (including a jalapeño cornbread grilled cheese), a massive charcuterie board that our guests could enjoy, a salad course, choice of entree, and of course something sweet,” Macey says.
“We had an extensive dessert table, along with an absolutely stunning (and delicious) two-tier cake created by Cathy Huber. We also enjoyed Aubi and Ramsa boozy ice cream. And if our guests were still hungry after that, we served late-night french fries with an array of condiments.”
As the night drew to a close, the couple made sure to carve out a special moment for just the two of them.
“Everyone always says your wedding day goes by so quickly, so we made it a point to ensure we enjoyed every second of it,” she says.
“One thing we cherished about the wedding was at the end of the night, after everyone walked out for our grand exit, we got to share one last dance with each other, just the two of us. It really brought the day back to us, and it was a really special moment we will never forget.”

Priscilla Ring was familiar with weddings — and certainly with wedding planning — when her beau Brandon Boudreau proposed to her on November 12, 2021, at Per Se in New York City.
Priscilla had already built a thriving business through her company, DeVoss Photography, which specializes in capturing couples’ big days. That meant she had lots of ideas when it came to planning her own aisle walk, especially the photography.
“Being a photographer in the South means that you see a lot of amazing and extravagant weddings. When approaching our ceremony, I wanted to give my photographer as much free rein as possible so that she could get the best shots,” she says.
“When it came down to it, I let (photographer) Eliza (Ours) walk wherever she needed to so that she could get some amazing photos of us and then we ended with a gorgeous petal toss on Old City Hall’s stairs. I highly recommend implementing some sort of grand exit to your ceremony.”
For their special day, April 15, 2023, Priscilla and Brandon wanted to share the charm of downtown Brunswick, a special place in both their hearts. The couple recently opened Newcastle Wine Merchant in the historic district.
“We wanted to highlight the charm of the historic district of downtown Brunswick and emphasize the magic of St. Simons Island for

“The team at Beachview Rentals did an amazing job helping my concept come to life and having a great friend like Wick Nalley of Wicnic made everything all the easier.”
The couple wove in special touches while letting their wedding parties’ personalities shine. The bridesmaids were able to select their own dresses within the color palette. They also hosted the local band Hot Banana Coffee during their cocktail hour.
“It was a fun twist on all of our favorite bands and allowed us to enjoy our cocktail hour … despite the Pinova Chemical Fire down the street,” she says.
Even so, the day was magical and surreal. And even though the bride had captured countless weddings, she was still surprised.
“As a photographer, I thought I knew what weddings feel like but after getting married I think about when we were engaged all the time,” she says.
“It really is a special time and even through the stress of planning, nd little moments to ground yourselves and soak it all in.”
